In this video, join me on a journey as we tackle the restoration of a rusty 1941 Ford Flathead engine. The process involves disassembling the engine and dealing with the unique challenges posed by stubborn, rusted valves. Valve removal, especially with vintage engines like this one, can be quite tricky, and I'm here to demonstrate various methods I used to remove them.
Throughout the video, I share my experience and insights into handling stuck valves, providing informative tips and tricks to make the process smoother for fellow enthusiasts and DIYers. You'll learn valuable techniques to overcome rust and corrosion, ensuring a successful valve removal procedure.
However, no restoration project is without its surprises. Watch as I encounter an unexpected hurdle: a potentially catastrophic intake runner breakage.
Join me in this journey of mechanical restoration, where we blend entertainment with education. Whether you're a vintage car / hot rod aficionado, a DIYer, or simply someone who loves engines, this video is sure to leave you inspired and informed. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more fascinating automotive restoration adventures!

Great video! I have two well-used flatheads in the garage and have always wondered about re-building them. This is the best video on valve removal I have seen!

About 18 years ago I tried tearing down a flat heat that was in this condition and gave up. I left it in the corner of the shop when I sold the place. I didn't have as much patience back then...

This one of those engines where you cant blame its condition on being old, just getting set aside for an overhead valve engine, and somebody decided not to care about the storage. A cracked block is understandable to toss, but this baby has had the internals exposed to the elements for way too long.
@calirod
@calirod 9 месяцев назад
After tearing it down it has cracks along the cylinder walls … I think it began running bad , the took off the oil pan… saw the cracks and then never cared for it.

Man.... i didnt like the idea of whackin those valve stems with a chisel... and now i know why 😢 I would think you could fix that intake port but that was definitely an unforced error.
@calirod
@calirod 10 месяцев назад
agreed... I got carried away and over confident after it worked on the other 2 intake valves. Doesn't help that I was getting tired and sending it with the hammer :) lesson learned... that's why I didn't mind paying the $300 for the engine... the small things learn I am sure will pay off later on. Including how to weld cast iron now !
@cadenkorzan
@cadenkorzan 10 месяцев назад
@@calirodcast iron needs to be heated before welding and it also needs to be controlled when cooling. If it's heated too quick or cooled to quick it will crack
