i saw this tradition of people improvising on the accordion in the madeira island. Where does this come from? :) And these melodies, etc. :) obrigado. :)
From tbe inhabitants. It foments attachments to their own culture, passes it on to newer generations, as you can see they are mostly youngsters going at it, whether playing or dancing, it helped the ones that migrated to overcome the loneliness and heartache of missing home and culture. It brought about union amongst towns people, and it was a way to pass whatever free time they had, while keeping tbemselves fit. It also promoted many marriages and love affairs. This is another reason why Portugal survives despite the challanges. Our people are extremely nationalistic, proud of their land, language and culture. We may seem like cool but sad cats, but we are not; here is your proof. This happens very often everywhere there are Portuguese, and here in Portugal especially in Minho area where this type of folk dancing and music is from, every weekend in town centers, players, singers and dancers join together the park and they sing, play and dance. In doung so they play homage to their Celtic tradition (dancing in a circle, bagpipe playing when possible), their German & Roman one (Accordion and Concertina play). It's a sight to behold and it happens allnover Portugal and the islands. Portugal has a very deep musical tradition, which we passed on to Brasil. Especially in the extreme NE, Centre, Southern areas of Brasil, this legacy is very obvious.
