I'm 7 months late replying to this, but just an fyi, throat losenges are sone of the worst possible things you can do for vocal strain. They numb your throat which makes you feel better but because your throat is numb you do further damage. Over time using throat losenges for vocal strain will DESTROY your voice. There's plenty of research on this so don't take my word for it.

Two corrections. One: You're confusing a religion with a language. Hindu refers to the religion. While the gods and mythology of the religion are mostly the same, their devotees speak many languages; Marathi, Gujrati, Oriya, Bengali and Hindi being just a few. Two: The pronounciations of names differs slightly depending on what language you're using. So as such, there is no rule saying that you shouldn't pronounce the a's. Ravana can be pronounced as written in Sanskrit but it's pronounced as Ravan in Hindi or Bengali. Anyone who asks why they should believe me, should look at my username. Have fun pronouncing it :) .

@@AlexJCross the second one is closer. Hindi basically has an "i" sound (as in Rick) or an "ee" sound (as in cheese). Shiva has the former.

there is no question about it. its pronounced "shivah". the "ah" is debatable but acceptable. a word isn't pronounced two different ways just because snowflakes want it to be.

Its shiv --》 शिव Not sheeva English adds the extra A. Just like its Ram and not Rama

Another Hindu here. I too call him Shiv-ji. AFAIK the difference b/w different parts of India is just whether you pronounce the 'a' in the end or not but I've only ever heard foreigners call him Sheeva. Pretty sure that's just plain wrong

They did not do a lot of research while creating or voice acting for the earlier gods. They know a lot more now. It's not she-va. It's Shiva or Shiv based on different parts of India

Isn’t it actually just shiv in India and it’s only English speaking countries that changed it but they changed it and use the vernacular Sheva where the actual pronunciation would be shiv… so either is both right and wrong depending on area of India your in, however I think all are considered acceptable and non offensive
