The Empty Concertgebouw sessions have been a great way to discover new music and artists. As a result of this video I went off and bought (demanded for Christmas!) the Van Baerle Trio's box-set of Beethoven recordings, which have been a constant companion since the beginning of the year. I've long been a sucker for Beethoven's piano music, and it has been a delight to discover his trios. Especially in recordings like this one which bring an element of lightness and joy that is often missing from Beethoven performances. The VBT performance for their studio recording of this work is very similar, with the usual technical benefits of studio recording.
Thank you so much, Richard! We’ve recorded all of Beethoven’s works for piano trio in the last three years. More info at our website www.vanbaerletrio.com.

Amazing ensemble playing, everything is perfect; sound, tempi, interpretation . Oh, is the cellist quite tall or is his instrument on the small side (asking as a cellist who plays a smaller than average Tyrolean instrument)?
