Hey friends! Welcome to our van build series. In this episode we are showing you how we installed radiant flooring, a DIY roof rack and a water fill port in this Ram ProMaster 2500 159 WB.
*Please note that the exhaust for the Espar furnace was later rerouted out to the edge of the van to avoid any fumes from leaking into the inside of the van.

Thanks for sharing this, this is extremely informative. I was ticked off after seeing Jarrod's vanlifetech's BS "proprietary" radiant flooring technology. This stuff should be shared and open sourced and I appreciate you guys sharing it with the community.

Question are you guys going to do a series where you show the rest of this van that you did for someone in Oregon I would love to see that, i’m trying to find some other videos on this van but I think I’m failing at that 😅

Hey Nate. I am doing a very similar install of Hydronic. If I understood correctly, you installed a 3/4" plywood final layer on the top. I am debating 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4. Pros and cons for all of them (height restriction, screw holding power for cabinets, etc.). I am wondering, are you getting adequate heat through the 3/4" ply? If so, that is the way I will probably go. Thanks for the great content. You guys did a great job.

You forgot aluminum radiating plates so it has a 5min wide heating element instead of 3/4in tube. They work 4x better and less need to keep system on and heat lasts longer.

Hey there. Really enjoying your processes. Using many in my van so thank you. Question - under the xps, did you put anything in the lower floor corrugation/grooves to "flatten" under the XPS? If so, what did you use? If not, has the XPS settled into the grooves at all?

What subflooring material did you end up installing on top of your radiant heating? I keep wondering if one could just put flooring right on top of that rigid foam.

HI Nate - did you find that you get enough radiant heat transfer to heat the van with the spacing you put in for the floor loop? I see you also have a blower for heat, but wonder if you have tried to run just on the radiant. Also, I didn't see use of a mixing valve for the in floor heat - was the radiant tubing at approximately 180 degrees off of the Espar? Did that cause any trouble to your flooring? Thanks for any feedback on what you experienced.
@CourtandNate1
@CourtandNate1 2 года назад
Hey Todd! The next time I run floor heat, I would like to make a few tweaks to get better efficiency out of it (maybe aluminum fins, air gap, reflectix, two loops). I haven’t had enough time to myself in that van unfortunately, but from what I hear it’s working well to evenly heat the van in tandem with the blower. The thermostat for the floor is set 2 degrees off from the blower so that the it’s set for primary heating. There is a Honeywell mixer valve in the floor loop as well as the water loop. I set the floor to about 100degF.

What year is this Ram ProMaster 2500 159" wheelbase van that you are converting in this video? Since it's got the crosshair grille on the front, it has to be a 2014-2018 model year.

Shouldn't the heat exchangers be located inside the van? If it's cold outside wouldn't you loose efficiency and also run the risk of them corroding?
@CourtandNate1
@CourtandNate1 2 года назад
The one under the chassis is just for the engine coolant loop. I don’t think efficiency is an issue there as the temperatures coming from the engine far exceed what is needed to for this purpose. Hadn’t put too much consideration into corrosion, but the placement is what the kit supplier recommends, so hopefully won’t become an issue. The heat exchanger that is used to heat the domestic water is located inside.
@Steven-e7c
@Steven-e7c 2 года назад
@@CourtandNate1 Thanks for your reply. Does it work as good as the heat exchanger inside? This video shows 2 water systems, does the outside exchanger connect to just one of the indoor exchangers? I'm also planning on using 2 seperate water systems, so that's why I ask (for recycling shower and sink).
@CourtandNate1

Just one water system , but could be expanded. Check out Rixens.com for more info and system schematics.

will the form base around copper tube be melted?
@CourtandNate1
@CourtandNate1 3 года назад
The tube carrying the heat through the floor is actually plastic Pex tubing meant for heating floors. It doesn’t really see more than 100degrees so there is no risk of melting the foam insulation.
@safary582

Will the heat work when the van is off?
@CourtandNate1
@CourtandNate1 3 года назад
The heated glycol is stored in the expansion tank and throughout the system. It will stay hot for a least a couple hours after heat is transferred from the engine. The furnace can heat the glycol on its own at any point as well.
