This video celebrates the efforts of the Van Buren Police Department for earning its accreditation through the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP), an accomplishment held by only 42 law enforcement agencies at the creation of this video.
The Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, created by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP), is the only local legitimate authority and accreditation agency in the State of Michigan. Currently, there are 583 law enforcement agencies in the State of Michigan, thus the accreditation places the Van Buren Township Police Department in the top tier of law enforcement agencies.
The accreditation was attained during a three-year-long process that was initiated by now-retired Public Safety Director Greg Laurain. The Michigan Association Chiefs of Police unanimously voted “yes” in favor to approve accredited status for the Van Buren Township Police Department. Director Laurain (retired), Police Chief Jason Wright, and Accreditation Manager Officer Adam Byrd accepted the accreditation on February 8th during a formal conference and ceremony at the historic Amway Plaza located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Accreditation Manager Sergeant Louis Keele was unable to attend the ceremony, but his efforts helped lead the department towards achieving this goal.
Then, on Tuesday, February 15th, in a historic Board of Trustees Meeting, members of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police presented members of the Van Buren Township Police Department with an official Certification of Police Accreditation Status. Robert Stevenson, Director of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, Neal Rosso, Director of Professional Development/Accreditation Program Director, and Chief Ron Wiles, President of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, all spoke on behalf of the Van Buren Police Department, celebrating their accomplishment.
This is the first time that the Department has earned its Accreditation status, and will continue to pursue it by recertifying every three years.
