Here's a brief direct translation of the lyrics: In the land of the blind is one-eyed king King runs away with ransom And killers greet each other with a hi-five I wanted to slow down my taps slowly But the lottery has already been won with a shot through the head of a magnet It's a land of colors and sounds It's a land of love for drink You're not me, I'm jealous of you It's a country of corruption and goddess It's a land of love for drink You're not me, I'm jealous of you Blame the devil Lips shake up and the spit spatters Overdue but lost control And we celebrate it with a hi-five I really wanted to turn my taps off But the lottery has already been won With shots through the chest of the magnaat It's our country It's a land of colors and sounds It's a land of love for drink You're not me, I'm jealous of you It's a country of corruption and goddess It's a land of love for drink I'm not you, you're jealous of me
Trust me, these guys are awesome live! All really nice guys that take time to hang out with fans and just shoot the breeze after their gigs. I toured Scotland in '09. Best fun I ever had with my clothes on!!! I doubt the band would go there though, especially because they do a lot of Afrikaans stuff. Maybe you have a chance to see them in London some day if you're lucky :) I bet they'd go there, cause there's a lot of Afrikaans xpats there.
Ek gaan eerlik wees. Ek hou nie daarvan as hulle legendaries afrikaanse liedjies so verkrag nie. MAAR hel dis ten minste Afrikaans en in hierdie tye van taal onderdrukking het ons elke AFR song nodig om ons pragtige taal te bewaar!
Brilliant. Always a surprise from these guys. Forcing me to learn their supposedly dead language since 2003. It's working, too, half the comments make sense to me, and I the top one make me snicker every time I see it.
thank you very much. i've been trying to learn some Afrikaans and that clears up alot of the confusions that i've been having as a beginner because i only have one friend that speaks Afrikaans and we can't converse as often as i'd like because he has very limited access to the internet and computers right now so learning has been slow but very enjoyable as well. Thanks again for all you're help =]
I'm not crazy about this version simply because I don't like rock music..but...these guys are talented and ...love it or hate it...they make their mark. I bet if you ask Carika though she would be quite happy there is a new version to take it to a new generation. Miskien is die probleem met die land dat sommige van ons assume hoe ander mense voel oor iets. We are not embarrased by this....Viva la musica!
You should be. We don't have something like this in the Netherlands. But as a dutchy this isn't too hard to understand and we can enjoy it like the Afrikaners :)
@Johnywilko01 I agree! I just meant, as an American, they told me it was doomed, but I have a head full of Van Coke makes me think they don't know what they're talking about. And Die Antwoord had a whole hall singing 'jou ma se poes' right here in my town, was great though I kept wanting to say they had the tune wrong. I'm hooked, hope you guys don't mind sharing... it's no stranger than learning some English for Nirvana, seems to me. These guys are at least as good.
@Johnywilko01 No, they got me just with that sound, at first. Then I started finding out what they were saying and loved them even more. Mostly I just pop lyrics in google translate and look at all the things they could mean, figure I'm no doubt missing plenty and confused about some, but that's normal for rock lyrics. Best way ever to learn language, I love them for it. Among other things.
I can't understand the lyrics of this as I only speak english but you don't need to know them to enjoy the instruments and the video was real amusing! What is this song about?
He sings about what life is like today in S.A, basically how corrupt things have become that even "murderes greet eachother with a hi-5" if I translate the chorus for you "It's a land of colors and sound It's a land filled with love for liqueur You aren't me, I'm jealous of you It's a land of corruption and worship It's a land filled with love for liqueur you aren't me, I'm jealous of you" Hope that helped a bit :)
Dit is meer soos:" Dis 'n land van korrupsie en, Goddank, dis 'n land van liefde vir klank." So, the "worship" part will refer to the last part of the sentence.
@@123Petrus321 was the first time i ever heard it back then and it was epic and i was young and i still listen to it this day so and not all of us saw it and if you did good on you too i hope your comment brought you satisfaction haha
@Johnywilko01 So not Afrikaans I have never really known anyone who actually speaks it, been addicted to the Francois & Wynand show since 'As jy met vuur speel'. My soulmate is from the Cape and put it in the shuffle, next thing I know I have Francois in my head being voice of my soul in language I have never heard, weird as fok, yo.
@Johnywilko01 Yes. You can't say "ek skyn heilig/ek's skynheilig" in English. You can't say "ons almal vrek alleen". You can say "hoor ons chaos buite", but I don't hear anyone doing it. Not to music like that, anyway. Got the music of the world coming to my doorstep and it's killing me to not see the Wie's Bang tour. Jy wen.
