Thank you for this wonderful presentation. Vincent's loneliness is so heartbreaking. He was so tormented. Planting sunflowers at the asylum is a great tribute to the artist.
Wow, that was a great presentation. Made me feel like I was there, great art, great history. Thanks for that! Oh, and you're painting is pretty good, too!
Hi Phil, it’s your pal Alfonz. I remember you telling me about your plans to go to France and paint; honestly thought you were bullshitting me. You did it, and it was a wonderful experience to watch. I never knew you had a RU-vid channel, so now I’ll keep up with all of your exploits. Hope you’re doing well, my friend. You’re a fascinating individual. ✌🏼

Second time for me watching this video. The first time seeing it I put it up on face book for my friends to see. I never commented so I will do it now. The video is very masterly done for viewers to enjoy. Tells little story of the ways the greatest artist of this world created his works of arts. You will have to over look some of what is said though. I believe myself that a little of what is said is a little mythical, but is usually believed by most who believe MFA expertise conclusions.
I think what you've done here is wonderful. Having just been to Arles and Saint-Remy it was really neat to see it again through your expression. Found it interesting that at10:24 when talking about " walking up the stone steps where the artist was confined..." you show a picture of the hospital in Arles that he was in when he cut off his ear lobe not the institution in Saint-Remy...besides that this video was wonderfully done.
There are two photos that are not Vincent. The young boy is Theo and the man has never been acknowledged by the Van Gogh museum as being Vincent. Also, Vincent was not shot in the heart. He was shot in the abdomen by Rene Secretan. I despise these videos that are inaccurate about Vincent.
@@hv97 well, I came to believe it was a familiar spirit, not quite sure what those are but it was like automatic drawing induced by drugs at the time. Everything I read I felt I wrote in a past life or something. I wish I had some drawings i did to show you but one self portrait looked just like the woman with the fork in the potato eaters. The energetic movement of his strokes i still do sometimes but he was a genius with color that I never experienced. A psychic actually told me one time the spirit of van gogh had been teaching me. That was interesting. She said he was still walking the earth. Actually, once the spirit started getting a little crazy I told it to split and it left me. Not long after I saw a series of crazy van gogh style paintings at an art fair. The artists wife said her husband also felt he had his spirit in him. A familiar spirit in the bible is a disembodied spirit pretending to be someone. The just want to inhabit people. They're demonic.
Does this make sense? Van Gogh gathers together his easel, paints, canvas, solvent, brushes etc. and heads out, as he often did, to a spot in the landscape to spend a day of painting. He also brings a gun with him so that, at some point, he can commit suicide. Even though there is no record of his ever owning or possessing a gun! And no gun was found anywhere.
Ummmmm....? Did anyone notice @ about 11:12 to 11:15 ish the eyes in the self portrait shift? Really nice creepy lil touch in the film ( ghost of van goph) i mean i hope that was intentional???? : O
Last night Vincent spirit was in my room, all night long I was singing "just out of the blue" starry starry night /Vincent/ the Vincent song I got up to go to the bathroom I came back and I felt the spirit I was not trying to do any of this it just happens.... it's happened to me the majority of my life this time I was trying to figure out who the spirit was because I had a few people on my mind at 2:00 3:00 in the morning so from then till about 7:00 in the morning I sang the song Vincent over and over again I don't know why this is never happened to me before but during the night I got the feeling got the message that it was Vincent and spirits come to me in a certain way and they physically touch my legs in a certain way and anyway I woke up tried to understand why he came to me and what I could think of is that we grew up with one of his paintings in our house and then my oldest brother painted portraits of Vincent that still sit sit in my dad's house...💙🤍
Brilliant video Phil. I am sharing this with my Book Club, we just finished Sacre Bleu by Moore. Moore takes a different approach to Vincents' death. G
Have you read Naifeh and Smith's biography? I believe their contention, based on a lot of evidence, that he didn't commit suicide, but rather it was a tragic accident involving the gun of a boy who used to taunt him.
He did not shoot him self a young boy playing with a 6 gun acidently shot him [ and not in the heart he would have died at once he lived for a while. He did not want the boy to get in trouble.
The credibility of this documentary was ruined when he said Vincent shot himself in the heart. Vincent was shot in the stomach and died 2 days later. The doctor said the gunshot went through him on an angle from a distance. A group of boys playing with a pistol were suspected of killing him.
in the final scenes in the film loving vincent which I recommend watching.. old roulin said something like "why like a man like him snuffed out because of some accident" and he added "covering up for those boys" finally confirms my realization after reading your comment that van gogh really wants to die. Because he kept saying that he shot himself to the end even that he really doesnt. Its really very sad.
I wish the narrative that Vincent shot himself would stop. A man does not commit suicide by shootings himself in the abdomen at a distance. There is a great deal of evidence that he was shot, likely accidentally, by teenage boys who were known to harass him.
If he came back today, he'd have hated our cheap commercialisation & been ultimately rejected, whether his paintings continued to sell & earn him millions or not. And would probably have ended up in a mental hospital, & would have died as he did, by his own hand, or even murdered, by profiteers. People would not have supported his taciturn manner nor his unrelenting integrity.
Nice video, I've drew the church in Auvers on the same spot where he stood, it's almost a religious experience. The photograph you include in this video is not considered authentic, however. He also shot himself in the stomach.
