^^^@HinjuRock .. Ah Only Heard this Tune the Other Day, I Just Don't Know Y I've Never Heard it B4, and I've Been Playin' it Ever Since .. U R Right Man :D] .v ..
Van Halen in their prime, hitting on all cylinders. The song sounds as great as it did on vinyl, possibly even better...Ed's guitar, DLR's voice...all crystal clear. M Anthony's bass thumpin' and harmonies clear as ever....and Alex's drums snappin' like a firecracker.
110% agreed! My Personal Favorite VH Tuna Of All Time. It Has EVERYTHING about The Band That Was Great & Then Some. How This Didn't Go # 1 Is Beyond Me 🤔👍
Yes it was!! I was fortunate to be at this show back then and they were so fucking awesome!! On the ride on BART going home everybody was raving on how great the show was! They should at least release the soundboard recording of the show since they claim to have only filmed 3 songs….😮
I'm so very grateful that my generation had grown up, enjoying the shows and jams to our beloved Van Halen. We were so lucky and it was the greatest of times.
1978, 1979, and 1980 were no doubt awesome Vah Halen tours. To me, the 1981 VH tour will always be their best. I thought they were at their peak. Simply an incredible band and collection of songs hitting on all cylinders at this point. Oh to go back for just one night to see this tour!
The day Eddie Van Halen passed away i was heart broken for day's like i lost my brother or something i wont ever forget him he inspired me to pick up a guitar one of the greatest guitarist we will ever come across in our life time will be missed and never forgotten r.i.p to the G.O.A.T 👊😎
That is awesome. On the Mean Street video (Italian TV) mike and Ed go opposite of DLR intentionally then they go syncopated. That’s the best stage stuff I’ve ever seen
@Greased Lightning Mike was right where he was supposed to be, otherwise Ed would get lost. That being said, Daves band tore this band a new one musically.
@Greased Lightning And you're a bass player? Look, I always say if you can't do it yourself whether it's music or sports, you shouldn't criticize. Learn the craft and be YOUR best. Mike has a number of deals with companies who put out MA edition instruments. He must be that good.
He could wail ... you might not realize it , but a lot of times those surly high notes Roth hit were shadowed by Michael Anthony , bad ass band , Roth gave them flair & magic , Haggar was good , but the Original is always the Best !!
This is the Grand Finale of all Rock'n' 'Roll songs. What Chuck Berry started with the story of the aspiring guitar player "Jonny B.Goode" came to a crescendo end with Eddy Van Halen & his phonomal gang, that besides the guitar god Ed comprised of the high-energy master entertainer David Lee Roth, the Frank Sinatra of Big Rock & High Energy Rock'n'Roll, Ed's absolutely unique and sound-shaping drummer-brother Alex Van Halen, and high-pitch chorus singer / driving bass player Michael Anthony. Unheard of until this day!
Oliver - thanks for affording me the priilege of reading this fine review of yours - it's one of the best I have read _ and I think it is great! Peace.
Your best accomplishes great feats - it seems, Mr. Oliversi! Thank you again for your superb Van Halen comment! Auf wiedersehen und prost! @@oliversi4583
No one will ever touch that original four. Ever. My heart is 50% happy and 50% broken when I watch this. Oh, man, do I ever wish every American kid had the chance to fall in love with a band this insanely talented and entertaining. Great artists will come and go, but the original VH was a once-in-a-lifetime collection of talent.
So well said. I absolutely agree ..this was the genesis and iconic Van Halen...when this band fractured, it was the end. Yes ..VH going further more mainstream success with Sammy, but to the fans of those first 4 records? The new VH was a completely different type of band. DLR and Edward were the Lennon and McCartney of this genre of rock. Dave's personality literally spills off the records. His gritty dirty delivery, those brilliant ad libs.."one break ..coming uuuuuup'...genius. And EVH ..he just seemed more inspired working with Dave. I'm glad that DLR and Al and Ed ultimately did drift sweetly back together...and a friendship survived. To bad Micheal Anthony was somewhat...ok alot ostracized..but I totally understand EVH wanting to have his son on stage. I'm glad he didn't wait till he was older, because it may not have happened at all. Peace 🕊️🕊️
My first was the Diver Down tour when I was a Freshman- I wish I could have seen this tour because by Diver Down they had dropped a lot of the Fair Warning songs--Fair Warning is my absolute favorite VH album!
It’s 2021 now, and to say that this performance was nearly 40 years ago (1981) is crazy and shocking. This song will never get old and will always feel legendary. Long live the mighty Van Halen. And to Eddie Van Halen Himself. Rock on in heaven GOAT. R.I.P. 🐐🔥🎸1955-2020
@@steveogee7458 my Brothers band "Autograph" toured with Van Halen in 1984, which helped thier first album go Gold before the tour was over. and hit song "Turn Up the Radio" later made Platinum
Yeah, the guitar playing on Fair Warning is just astounding, even by his standard. Love the dark vibe of the whole album too. Kinda futuristic and grimy at the same time, almost kind of Blade Runner
Look at that 1981 audience, dam I miss that time. Rolling Stones just put out "Tattoo You", I was 19!! Now I am 59 and love the music of my generation. I saw Blondie in "82",she was a smoke show!!! She is 76 now..geez! Still pretty. Like the Stones sang" Time waits for NO one"...so if your young be drug free and enjoy your life.... The older you get, the older YOU get. This generation missed the amazing 70's and INCREDIBLE 80's. 😃👍
I don't know how many 50+ are here but I can tell you this; as soon as that riff starts, I'm seeing a starry night through the T-bar of a Z28 above me and a bonfire nearby with people all around in the distance, cuz that's how we did! 40 years later and when this song starts, you're right back there man! Miss ya badly EVH! You're always with us♥️👊😎
Yes the beautiful summer heat, dust from dirt bikes, and the woods. Smell of beer, everywhere, and bbq. In my neighborhood dusk was beautiful. We all kids running around everyone’s house windows open, screened of course and you could hear their tv cranked but most of house was outside. These shows was like going to a backyard party, and the band was known by everyone. And we all synced getting drunk together. And the music and fun was always equal.
I was an intern for MTV, in the studio (Unitel Studios, where the VJs and Director of On-Air Talent worked out of), in 1987. No pay but the best perk was dubbing all the videos you wanted from MTV's vast archive. I remember recording this video (among many), still with time stamp, on a VHS tape and taking it back to college. Then I watched it with some friends and couldn't believe what I was seeing: the perfect Van Halen moment -- one that I hadn't seen live on MTV. They are fighting trim, ferocious and hungry, in perfect synchronicity. The power and the glory. So glad this is available on RU-vid whenever I need a dose of adrenaline and dopamine.
I cannot name another band that had more energy onstage than these boys. And I've seen many, many *truly great* bands over the past 50 years. Viva Van Halen.
Aussie total VH obsessives like me,haven't been able to see these UNTIL NOW on RU-vid,Australian TV/Radio programmers have NEVER had even the slightest clue,as to whats cool generation after generation-I'm 52 now it defies description how Radio is SO BAD-They ONLY play a bands "Hit Single" NOTHING else, and Triple j [ Edit 12-2020-Triple JJJ actually saved us all down here when I think about it properly] supposedly the hip station "Rock" is almost BANNED,the ONLY time they even slightly hinted at playing something Rock was the first few times they played A.I.C. "would?" Not any of Dirt's album tracks, just would? Van Halen absolutely without fail JUMP. NOTHING ELSE It makes me so frustrated and still I'm shocked,at this"No Album Tracks"ever! Still!
@@adamfox9245 dude, do I hear an echo? That is YOUR opinion. There is no "best" only perceptions of people with opinions as to what THEY think is best and those opinions are purely subjective. Some say Hendrix was the best, others say Clapton, others say Page or Gilmour or Beck. All awesome players! EVH is in the top 5 of most "best" rock guitarists polls that I have ever seen. There is no WRONG or RIGHT answer to who is the best only subjective opinions. We just happen to have different opinions. Peace.... out!
Eddie Van Halen is and always will be the greatest guitarist of all time just totally out of this world nobody will ever be like him he is the man the greatest he brought something different to our world and it just mystified hypnotized everybody and everybody wanted to be Eddie but to this day nobody can do what he did
Tom Miller You should listen to How The West Was Won or Royal Albert Hall. Plant at his peak could sing like no one I have ever heard. VH is awesome...but they were always more Eddie than the others.
David Lee Roth is a perfect example of it doesn't take a perfect voice to be successful.. unless we're talking about his incredible screams that sound like a cat just had it's tail ran over by a rocking chair lol Groove and soul and charisma is all Dave needed to prove his point.. not to mention what a colorful personality he was, one of the greatest frontman of all time, Diamond Dave!
Back when we were all so young i'm so glad i saw them live 7 time's from '77 to '84 one of the BEST time's of my life...Goodbye friend you will alway's be in my memorie's.......RIP Eddie
Do you think that anyone in attendance that night had any idea that so many people 39 years later would be wishing they were there that night in Oakland. lol. One of the greatest rock bands of all time at the their height.
I was there! We( my friends and i) saw Valerie Bertinelli walking down towards the sound check area on the arena floor before the band came on... accompanied by two security guards. It by far the best of the many VH concerts i've been to. The arena workers/vendors were standing in the aisles watching the show. Everything about the show was absolutely perfect. I'm so lucky to have been there. I was a senior in high school at the time. They opened the show with Romeos Delight...great song to open up with. Actually, they always opened with Romeos Delight for a couple years.
@@matthewmcloone8314 U & I r around the same age. born in `63; graduated from H.S. in `81 here. VH did open with ROMEOS DELIGHT when I saw `em in 1980,CHICAGO. Mike Anthonys`s home TURF!!!
The double bass outro by Alex is insane. The drum is so rock n roll . There will never be another band like them ever. I'm so glad I got to see them play. This never gets old.
Well, selling more albums or records doesn't mean shit even if you are right. look at people like drake or cardi b. sells tons of records and they are complete dogshit. AC/DC is a great rock n roll band, but its simple and easy to get into and they had the same formula for their whole career that worked but wasn't interesting. Van Halen was the better band, they were innovators and showed you how it's done and blew everyone away. Van Halen changed the formula and the music scene, AC/DC was just another band that sold records. That is also facts. I think Powerage is AC/DC's best album but it's not commercialized like back in black. Van Halen wasn't a commercialized band until they released 1984. Then when sammy joined the band they hit number 1 on billboard everytime even when sammy's songs are not as good as when Roth were in VH.
Was thinking about how I might counter that statement. So I thought, "Hmmm...at that same period of time what were Y&T, Triumph, Rush, Judas Priest, and Night Ranger doing?" But...nope...you're right. (Editor's Note-Prior to 1978 KISS would have crushed them.)
In 2012 I was in a VH tribute act as M. Anthony where the drummer had the "Fair Warning" drums with the black and white stripes with every rack tom and four bass drums present. When he played "Hot for Teacher" on it well...let's just say it was really loud. We did a killer version of this song too. Any VH tribute act that skips "Hear 'Bout it Later" is a fraud pure and simple.
I saw them on every U.S. tour they did with Roth from July ‘79 to July ‘84, and I can objectively say that this tour (and album) was where they peaked, both as a live act and as songwriters. Fair Warning, both the album and the tour, is a big standout in my memory. This Oakland footage definitely captures them at a time when they were on top of their game.
OMG what a performance. Eddie was so crisp playing this difficult song while jumping around on stage. Impossible for anyone but him. I still have a hard time accepting he is no longer with us.
That big Lighted "VH" was at the END of ths show, it was the light rig over the stage durring the concert, and was dropped, or fell down, and then lit up. it was bright and it was HOT. Great Memories of the greatest damn band on earth. The Mighty Van Halen.
Danniel Amyx i saw them in Montreal during this tour. The front of the light rig pivoted down all lit up, and you could feel a lot of heat once it hit you. Freakin good times!
@@TheProducers That had to have been great times. One of my biggest questions is how could Eddie have tolerated Dave as long as he did, the band always sounded so killer, Dave such a"whatever" . This era of Halen I was only around 11 maybe, so I didn't get see them till a bit later. Always wondered what it would be like when Van Halen " for lack of a better way to put it" pretty much owned rock. If I'd only come along a few years earlier. Thank God for Michael Anthony, without him it might have been a great guitar show and, maybe a karate clown dancing act on the side, maybe, I don't know what to make of Dave.✌️
35 yrs they have been my favorite band, I moved here from Iran in 1983, I was poked in the eye by American hard rock music and Van Halen became my idols! Long live the mighty Van Halen
Van Halen at their PEAK @ BEST !!! Loved this album best of all !!! They were absolutely the biggest band in the world here PERIOD !!!! Glad we got these videos to remember The Mighty Van Halen!!!!
They remind me of what was fun in the 80's. Going to a party with VH playing in the background. This is a moment in time that will never be replaced, I don't think there's been a rock band nearly as good. Fair Warning was my first VH record and I must've played it 1000 times. Way under rated by the critics, I think the whole band sounded amazing! I'm getting the remastered on cd.
This was the peak of this band, few bands ever had energy like this and Eddie moving around and picking without a flaw just shows how happy they were and wanted to entertain. I've seen them maybe 10 times and the fair warning, women & children, diver tours were just like this. I was leaning on the stage at all of those tour, EVH gave me one on his schlitz malt liquor beers while Michael was doing his bass solo then intro to running with the devil. And later met the band at the Hyatt pool on the 3rd floor Dallas, Valerie Bertinelli was there before Eddie and her were married. Those were the days, I wish this version of the band would have continued forever. We got robbed of some incredible albums that never happened. This was the mighty fucking Van Halen.
