Fifth single from their 1988 album, "OU812", peaking at #50 in 1988 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Tweaked the colour correction and corrected the aspect ratio as well as added enhanced audio. Hope you enjoy!
Yeah - me too. I saw them on this tour in Richmond in '89. It was amazing. Unbelievable how tight and musical they were. Definitely at the top of their game. Each of them was amazing. The musicianship and vocals were other worldly !!
Notice how Sammy gets so lost in the groove after the solo he loses track of his microphone and has to sprint back to it like Usain Bolt? I have never seen another drummer do that. Alex isn't even in the conversation when they debate great drummers of rock because it goes without saying that he's the top dog and everyone else is just trying to get a bone.
he is playing to a cllck but expanding it....making it more fluid..but no..he has the metronome click in his ear and has to come down on the one..good stuff
This is one of the Best songs they did since 5150 Alex Drumming Ian amazing and Eddie ! And Mikes backing vocals are incredible and Eddie !! We Miss you!!
I just got out of the Marine Corps about 6 months prior and bought a house in the country. When my wife and kids were gone I blasted this shit. My closest neighbor was maybe 300 yards away
Can't believe how rhythmically and tonally tight they are here. This is 20-25 years before real-time auto-tune. Sammy is singing what we be acceptable after 50 takes in the studio today. Sure there is a bit sequenced keyboard in the background, but far out - guitar, drums, backing vocals would be as good as many artists would take days to get right in the studio. Shame about Sammy's yellow pants!!
Watching this again a few years later. It still crushes!! Man these guys were absolutely at the top of their game during this period. Ed and Al were literally unstoppable, and with Sammy out front, and in a zone like this..... these guys ruled the World. Amazing. Unbelievable almost, and other-worldly. This is just so sikk... after all these years. Still amazing.
Me too. I fell in love with them with DLR. I was so upset when he left. They changed to World together. And then..... this happened. LOL It was even better. And they changed the World again. I mean... think about that. Unbelievable what these guys did.
It got better until the Carnal Knowledge album. The lyrics of Spanked and Amsterdam were embarrassing even to me at 18 yrs old when the album came out. And then Balance album was uh ... not great either. (Just my opinion tho)
You Sammy worked out boxing and riding a mountain bike that I think was the first developed he started a bike company way back in 87 or 88 he was in great shape still is
always loved this song. the energy! when i disovered this live version i had to listen to it again about 10 times in a row. VH was the band! ... still is!
For those who remember "Guitar for the practicing musician" magazine, they had a "Guitar Solo of the Year" poll around the time OU812 came out. George Lynch's In My Dreams solo was #1 the year before OU812 came out. I really think Eddie was trying to record a solo to win the next poll. If you listen to "Mine All Mine", that solo is like he was trying to impress judges and cover all the bases with originality, difficulty, flash & composition. I only realized this listening to the recent remasters.
In a company, they say that the employees are as good as the leader. Here are 4 highly explosive creative positive leaders. What Van Halen have created is simply beautiful 💙🎼
Whoever “restored” this video needs to keep their day job. The audio is terrible. Overcompressed and several dropouts. Look for the same video that does not say “ restored” to avoid the mess that was done to this.
I enjoy it, need something to complain about? Most of this super old stuff is really grainy and barely listenable… I’m super grateful.. maybe someone can take it an add upon it… wiener schnitzel
