How to get the Van Halen One sound with a Helix. This is not exact, you can tweak as needed but hopefully is a great start. Get the tone at Line 6 CustomTone: line6.com/cust... Part 2 of the video is here: • Van Halen One Tone part 2
Wow! That is the most accurate reproduction of Eddie's Eruption, Hot For Teacher and Ain't Talk in 'Bout Love, in both technique and electronic manipulation I've ever heard. Killer playing!
The TONE! How it cleans up and yet still sounds so full. Strongly considering this unit. The fact that it can control the Variax / detuneabilty is a big factor. You restored my faith in Line 6 with one simple Post.
Just bought my Helix, lots to learn, Downloaded the patch but noticed my guitars pickups must be much weaker. Any tips to get more proper gain? pedal in front of amp? Thanks for sharing your video and patch.
Never heard one patch cover so many different VH songs / sounds. Way to go - best stuff I have heard from the Helix in a few months. Had a blast listening to you play as well!!!! Thank you for sharing it with us!!!!
One thing great about owning/ using a Helix or something similar is that IF you want the EVH tone you can get all of them in one unit. Eddie had many tones through the years and it is hard to find that in just one amp and the Helix is so versatile and has so much inside yo can get every tone from every album VH has done.
The haters start focusing on your feet..and give the cliche comment.. Because they can't get what you have.. Your guitar playing is outstanding and seriously you are there for Eddie's tone.. The tricks and technique is there.. Bravo brother..👍🙏
Dude, you nailed it! I hopped on RU-vid to find some tips on how to nail that guitar sound after hearing about Eddie's passing. Thanks so much for this.
Just listened to runnin with the devil, and then played it with your preset. So close it's eerie. I don't think there's any sound the Helix can't duplicate. Best piece of gear ever. Thanks again for sharing, when so many are selling their presets.
Wow I'm not sure how many hours it took you to do this. My jaw dropped. I was really thinking about buying this. I stop thinking I'm going to buy it. Line 6 should hire you as a consultant. Wonderful job. And that playing very good playing.
Thank you very much. It really only took me a matter of minutes. I knew what settings to use so it was kind of simple. I would love to consult for Line 6. Dream job for sure.
Wow, you really are getting the best of the Helix, this really sounds so authentic and certainly as close to perfect I've ever heard to the Van Halen One tones from a multi-FX pedal board. Amazing work
whoa ridiculous!!!! lol!!!!! I just got my line 6 helix and never thought i'd leave my tube amps!!! they're great man!!! Thanks for posting will follow you!!!
Fantastic, really really close to the record which still gives me chills . Outstanding dynamics, by rolling down his volume and pick attack which no other rock player exhibited in those days or these for that matter . Great job and playing ! Line 6, hmmmm
Never heard any of the david bray marshall videos? The Rockstah marshall videos? take a listen. EVH is an old marshall all the way up. Nothing can replicate it. I've tried. I ended up just buying an old 68 circuit Plex superlead.
I would also add some guy who went by Ralle500 who used to visit some amp forums years ago. I also just found he can go by Ralle62 on Soundclick. He was first guy I heard nail it then Mark (Rockstah) Bray does a good job also.
George! Awesome video! I just picked this up. I have a Helix Rack with foot control and this will definitely give me some new sounds to play with! Thanks for sharing!
pretty cool, ,so what you're basically saying is that if you add the flanger /phaser, with the helix, you got the whole effects set up, of course maybe a guitar that has single coil pickups, maybe a wolfgang, lol, and talent all helps, great demo, thanks !
This sounds really close to the tone on the first record. I think even EVH himself, may he rest in peace, would have been surprised at how close you got. Great job!
Sounds spot on to me. Awesome. Yeah artist research is always key to recreating as close as you can to any sound. You will never get 100% as they always do something in the studio/mix that you cant really do at home without $$ thousands in gear but its nice to get it as close as you can on the cheap. Great job. keep em coming!
Nice my friend, playing as well as studious approach to the effects chain. If you want to dive deep into the EVH stuff the Metro board goes there from the tube standpoint. That said , nice job in the digital world and showing how the Helix is a valuable tool. Thx
Wow! This post is the closest thing I have ever heard to the VH1 album sounds! I am an old rocker and on the day in 1978 I heard the first Van Halen record, I freaked. Eddie shook the guitar world with that album. I bought a Line 6 Helix and a pair of Friedman ASM12 monitors when they came out. I have been playing guitar for 46 years, but the 'purist' in me has put them on hold for a while. That is, until I heard this video! Awesome playing and tones. You are the man!
You think if you would have given Jimi Hendrix a Spider 4 he would have riffled thru the effects and shook his head in disappointment? Or instead made the most of all the tools he had right in front of him? I gotta say, there's NOTHING more snobbier, than a guitar snob.
Interesting. This confirms Eddie's claims that he didn't use any kind of overdrive pedal. He just turned the amp all the way up and used the Echoplex preamp to boost it even further. This really sounds like the first album. Cool trick on getting the Eruption slowdown effect.
Great patch man. I've downloaded a ton of these things off of custom tone and the lion's share are pretty much crap. Yours is golden though. Sounded great right out of the box. Thanks again!
I like my Helix aswell.. Its amazing. I have other Boss effects boards too. Im running thru Amplitube and then to Mackie board and then to JBL power PA's. Yes the EVH guitar is smooth easy to play. I have a black one aswell.
Hey there. First of all, very authentic tone and you nailed it. Second, you probably know that Line 6 POD Go is out now. Can that all of the settings in this preset or snapshot be "converted" into a POD Go preset? It's half the DSP of Helix so I'm wondering if it's possible.
I don't know anything about the POD Go but I replicated this tone on an HX Stomp so I would think it should work. I'll post a video soon of the stomp tone and put the patches on CustomTone.
Excellent video bro superb chops n licks well made indeed. Blessings from Glasgow Scotland home of Angus n Malcolm Young. I shan't mention those "Plates of Meat" lol
Great video. The sound is nice. And like you said back in those days Eddie didn't have today's technology. But his sound can be played and i can use both the foot pedal abd the wammy bar. 😊
Not sure whether he used a load only later in the eighties, but certainly time based effects were added after the cranked tone. Other sources like amptone.com favor a dummy load approach since the beginning as the Variac is more sound shaping. You couldn´t crank a 100 Watt amp with 90 volts.
Not on the first album or tour. If you watch the recently "uneathed" video of the 78 tour it shows that he used two completely separate amp rigs. He would finish Eruption, turn the delay all the way up to get the freak out sound, then be handed another guitar, hit a button to switch everything over. It was always echoplex in to the front of the amp. Future tours and in the studio were probably different. If you listen to Atomic Punk and Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love you can hear the slapback from the delay clearly. about 228 miliseconds set with a very low mix. He was mainly using the EP to get a little more gain out of the front of the amp.
Really amazing sound for this mythic song... The model of your Helix is the LT ? Right ? 6 years later would you still play on the same Helix ? Thanck you so much...great vid 😊👍
EVH & Gear TV Network I knew you’d be here for this!! I listen to all the podcasts and I’m subscribed to your channel. Love your work, keep it up, Eric!
