mike i just wanted to thank you. I tell everyone i know that you are the best teacher on the net. You break it down where i can understand and follow you. You give the tuning upfront which saves me the hassel of finding it. But you are awesome and think your the shizzz...I appreciate all the teachings...would love to hear you play some helmet throwing punches, you borrowed...love paige hamilton....love his style....again thanks for everything you do...

I was going to get some soon anyway and I am a single dad and have custody of my boys and well I have no family to lean on and I work shift work so my one outlet or piece of sanity is my guitars....so I am getting everything set up so I can make this happen . I will be hitting you up soon to see if you can fit me in. Thanks again for being such an awesome teacher. ...would love for you to teach some helmet throwing punches. ...love that jam....be hitting you up soon...rock on brother! !!!

I think Led Zep was also one of the many users of 1/4 step down. I read somewhere, many years ago that it has something to do with the fact that waaay back in days of old pianos weren't always tuned to A440, but I don't recall the reference frequency for A. Maybe 437?
@scottexpo
@scottexpo 9 лет назад
I think the reason why the guitars sound 1/2 step down and then a 1/4 step sharp form there is because of the Floyd Rose set up. Every time I go to tune my guitar after playing it is automatically set like that even though I just tuned it to 1/2 step down before playing. I think my guitar automatically sets itself to that action.

The tunings in a lot of pre early mid 80's songs can be a little wonky. It's because the technology wasn't nearly as good back then. Your guitar was in tune w/ the tuner and itself, but the calibration on the tuner might have been a little sharp or flat. That's why it was so important back then for all the band members to use the same tuner and the intonation on the instruments was done on the same tuner. It's not so much an issue today because tuner technology has increased several times over.

I have watched about 6 diff tutorials on this song and even though it's probably one of the easiest van halen songs to learn I like to see people's variation on how it's played because I can choose what I think is correct because this song is burnt into my head note for note along with many other songs from the 80s, like somebody get me a doctor VH! With all that being said I noticed this video was made 5 years ago and only has 732 likes? That's a load of shit bro. You dug deep and found little things that other tutorials didn't, for example the pick scrape before the slide on the E, very important... it gives that ATTACK / slide down, raw Eddie. I grew up in Arcadia California and although I didn't get to meet the guys in person until they made the hot for teacher video at Apple school in LA. I did go to school with Michel Anthony's younger brother Dennis S. at Arcadia HS. Great people all of them, much respect to the band and their family's, it was great to be a teen in the 80s metal scene. Blah blah blah... bro you deserve way more likes on this One! Good job my friend, and thanks for sharing.

eddie used a phase 90 mxr pedal and an mxr flange i heard a good substitute was the boss bf2 flanger also you could try looking up his settings for those effectson the internet he relies heavily on those two plus i heard echo plex as well you could try a mad professor one pedal the one with built in reverb i heard it will get you that eddie brown sound also check out the wampler pinacle also try a peaavy vypyr 30 amp the sound much better than the line6 counter they get you a closer eddie tone hope that advice helps you spencer if you get the peavy vypyr try the plexi or brit model on the amp in eddies early days he used a 59 marshall plexi with a variac on it to get that tone
