My mate had this game YEARS ago, we never got past the first mission cause we thought the game was telling us to hide, but it was the healthbar for Hyde 😂
I never forget when I bought the Xbox version of this game for just a few bucks at my local game store. At the time I didn't watch the Van Helsing film so that didn't influence my decision to pick it up but the artwork cover did. When I asked the seller how the gameplay was, he answered: "It's basically a Devil May Cry clone" and that's all I needed to hear to make my purchase and I didn't regret it at all.
Yeah that's the best way to sum up the game. It takes the tried and tested hack n slash formula and has what it needs to have. Plus I like the overall gothic theme of the game I think it suits.
I’m playing this right now on PS2 and having a blast. Honestly one of the best movie based video games I’ve ever played. There are a lot of similarities to the amazing Indiana Jones games on PS2 as well - especially when your hat gets knocked off. And the voice acting really wasn’t bad. It’s a nice nod to Castlevania too with similar gameplay to Lament of Innocence. I picked it up at a used game store for just $9.99 and honestly think it’s worth alot more than that. It’s a shame the movie bombed. I always loved it and had hoped it became a franchise like The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. A sequel could have had Van Helsing take on Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Mummy, Invisible Man, Dracula’s daughter, and other universal movie monsters who didn’t make the cut in the original. So much wasted potential. It’s a real shame. They had a great idea. I don’t know why audiences didn’t take to it.

Funny you should mention King King. I just played through it again yesterday and recorded the whole thing. I am planning to upload the full playthrough later in the week and review it some time after.
Wish universal wound just take the original movie scripts and make them into a 100 hour open world action RPG the world in the movie was just cool af it was a shame the original script didn't get adapted
