The Newbys arrive into Africa!!! This weeks episode has us all on the edge of our seats, and we are so excited to share with you our first overland Africa vlog. Swapping van life Europe for Van life Africa! Wooohoooo!!!!
We head to Cape Town on British Airways first flight there since the pandemic stopped the route. We breeze through Cape Town and take a boat ride out to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Next we drive down to Cape Point... spectacular! There we meet penguins baboons and lizards.

We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We’re a family who are pursuing an alternative lifestyle, and after two years of full time travel we’ve taken root on an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal which we’re renovating into our dream off-grid homestead. I've been enjoying your channel for as many months as I've been laid up in bed with no work after an accident. I have to say that it's very surprising to me that no mention was made in this video regarding the reason behind Mandela's imprisonment; terrorism. Mandela and Mugabe were great Allies and friends, and it surprises me that Tara, having been born in Zimbabwe, and likely having had access to the truth regarding Mandela, portrays him as some sort of hero in this video. He was a violent, communist terrorist and this episode is a politicization of your channel. Not cool. Incidentally, I'm a 53 year old South African.

Wonderful video, I can’t wait to show my dad. I share my dads passion for travel and when he was younger he took my mum and my brother who was two at the time to live in SA. He holds a deep love for the country and it’s people. He only returned to the Uk as he couldn’t live with the unfair divide that apartheid had at the time. He would love to go back. He’s 87 extremely fit, golfs and walks everyday. Maybe one day soon I can take him 🙏🏼 I love crusoes reaction to the penguins 😍 Can’t wait to see more in this African adventure part x

Aloha Newbys!🌺 I really enjoyed this video! I was surprised to learn that penguins live in South Africa!!! I always thought they lived in colder climates. Crusoe is sure enjoying these excursions and animals. He's growing up so fast! @@TheNewbys I’ve watched all your videos from the beginning. My husband has young onset dementia so travelling the world is difficult for us We have been to Germany and to America before the illness. Now we travel around the UK as much as we can making our precious minutes count. Justgot home from 2 weeks on Skye and a week in the Lake District. Making precious memories. I love travelling the world with you guys as i love the historic places and facts you always give. (I love history). Looking forward to next week’s video already. Your little boy is so adorable 🥰💙

What a beautiful welcome. I felt emotional. Yay to being able to travel. I am not very world travelled (Finland numerous times because it’s my heritage and all my cousins live there, and we have lived in Japan and Singapore, and revisited both ) but I have, actually been to Cape Town, the Cape of Good Hope and walked the same boardwalk to visit the penguins. The sea there is incredibly blue. So nice to see you again and looking forward to next week.

We love Africa and know it very well, John has taken many journeys through to continent, from the Congo to Cameroon and Egypt to Ethiopia. Tara of course was born in Zimbabwe. Security is something we always think about, having said that is something that rarely concerns us. Most visits to Africa for most people are trips of a lifetime and almost always end with only great memories. We hope you make it here one day. Keep an eye out for our future vlogs. The biggest question for me is: How could he even afford „living a live on the road“ or how can you as a family afford months of van life in africa? Now dont get me wrong please its no offend at all. But i would love doing something like this myself and there is simply no way ever to afford traveling like that. Since your not able to earn stable money while on the road i cant think of how this is possible..

@@TheNewbys Thanks for answering my question this quick. Of course there are ways to earn money while on the road. But this is mostly a thing for influencers or IT Specialist. If you are working a „regular“ Job theres just sadly no way doing this.

@@TiilCAEU Good to hear from you. Question, do you use a computer to do your job? A lot of people who are not in IT or influencers do! If you are one of these people, ask your boss if you could work on the road. You never know, your boss might say yes!! Then, off you go on an adventure, film at weekends and evening. Work during the days. 👍👍

@@TheNewbys i dont. I have no Chance in doing something like this. ☹️ Theres no way i could work from somewhere else. Also i dont think any boss would be like „hey of course why not“ because theres always a chance of having no wifi or being not available. At least in germany no boss ever would allow you to do that.
