Here’s a more detailed explanation of my remote controlled electric bed lift. This is a more reasonably priced method of having a hideaway bed in a camper van or toyhauler. I found the company Progressive Automations, and they make something called Linear Actuators. Essentially think of a gas strut, except these are electric so they never lose strength over time and can operate remotely. It’s important to understand they have an almost endless variety of actuators for size, strength, etc. so you can use these for all kinds of projects. They are currently used in projects like car doors and trunks but if you’re creative you can have cool one-of-a-kind projects like mine.
I used the PA-04 linear actuators with the Hall effect. What that means is that I can hook up 4 actuators to a single controller, the model I used was the FLTCON-4. Then all of your actuators operate simultaneously and to the exact same lengths. The bed raises to the ceiling with the push of a button. The LCD controller allows 4 manual presets for height. So I programmed “#1” to be lowered all the way. “#2” is 10” higher than that. “#3” raises the bed 17.5”. And “#4” brings the bed to the ceiling at a height of 22”. If the bed is at the ceiling I can push #1 on the controller and walk away and a minute later the bed is ready to lay on.

That's really a great idea. Cost effective with the same results. Thanks for sharing.

I ended up using a really overkill size for my actuators. I think they can hold 1600 pounds if I remember correctly. But it only cost about $1000 for this one which was still overkill. The bed lift from happijack is like $3000

Thank you for doing this video btw. This is exactly what I've been looking for, and I've been looking for a long while. Just ordered (and forgot to use your code, but emailed them afterwards). Looking forward to installing. It's going to be awesome.!

Fantastic job on the lift system. How did you power it? The 4-channel Hall controller is 110 AC, so a solar powered inverter? I'm looking to build a custom micro hard-sided pop-up trailer using these, and the Progressive Automations guys sent me a link to this video. Cheers, and get well!

I have been looking into this setup for a few weeks. My primary concern is lateral stability. How does that platform do while extended and moving around the bed, =driving offroad, etc.? I don't see any rails or guides to hold it on axis.

i have been having the exact same problem/ with investigating weather this system needs a guided rail or not..

When you bolted it down to the floor, did you use the stock floor, or do you have a piece of 2x4 there which is first mounted to the floor, and then works as a base for your lift system?
