What a great ocean adventure! Homer, AK ;-) Now I have to go find my old Tom Bodett audios. Wez's color is so beautiful... is he an Aussie or English Springer cross? Anyway, I really enjoy that sweet face.

Oh, we will have to go find some of those audios too! Just looked him up and sounds super interesting. Thank you! Wez is an Aussie/Lab mix, so you were absolutely right! He’s our special boy. 🥰

Oh! We wish we were still in Homer, but plan to be back next summer. Thanks for the recommendation. We’re writing that down!

Yeah most towns in Alaska shut down after Labor Day because less workers or the town had to winterize the utilities in places like Denali because it is literally only open in summer. Darn that you didn't stay in Homer longer or take the ferry over to Seldovia with your Sprinter for boondock camping and exploring. So much to see in the Kachemak Bay area. Whittier isn't the most exciting town but it's fun for WWII history, the museum, cycling, taking the ferry to Valdez, hiking to Portage Pass to overlook Portage Glacier, the views of Prince William Sound, berry picking, hiking to Horsetail Falls and Blackstone Glacier overlook, fishing from shore, jet ski tour, and taking a 26 Glacier cruise. I'm surprised you didn't explore Portage with the Trail of Blue Ice hiking, kayak float trip, cycling, Byron Glacier, and lots of boondocking. To see the best parts of Alaska, you have to chat with locals and appreciate the stillness, simplicity, and scenery. Everything isn't online in an app. This was definitely your saddest video in Alaska but Brian enjoyed the halibut so that's a win.

@@tacrewgirl We wish we could have, but were on a timeline to get back to Anchorage. 😭 I (Emily) had to fly back home for a wedding. We definitely want to explore more next summer though. We will certainly be back! Good to know about Denali, because I think that’s where we’re headed next. 😬
@tacrewgirl
@tacrewgirl 10 дней назад
@@AdventureOutThereGotcha on the timeline. On the way to Denali definitely check out Independence Mine in Hatcher Pass, but I think the road thru to Willow may be shutdown due to snow at Summit Lake. The restaurant is open on the weekend with live music. Check out Talkeetna. I like the museum, the view of Denali on a clear day, the Hurricane Turn whistle stop train but I think it's down for the winter, pie making class at Talkeetna Roadhouse, birch syrup, aurora viewing photography with Aurora Dora, Mahay's Jetboat to Devil's canyon, flights to land at Denali Basecamp, Denali Brewing pizza, bike rentals at Talkeetna Gear Shop, beautiful artwork and earrings, community events via the chamber of commerce, and the best chapstick ever from Silver bear Sundries sold at local stores. There's hiking Curry Ridge and views from McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge at mile 133, the Denali Highway from Cantwell to Paxson, and many stops along the way to the national park entrance at mile 237. You should pick up the Mikepost book for $40 to tell you about the sites along the way. Most gas stations and grocery stores have it. September is great for fall colors and solitude. There is lots of boondocking along the way. The closest towns to Denali for laundry and shower are Cantwell and Healy, both about 20 minutes away. But talking with locals will get you far.
@tacrewgirl

@@AdventureOutThereDarn, I just wrote a second comment about what to do en route to Denali and RU-vid deleted it. 😢 Summary - Independence Mine at Hatcher Pass is a cheap tour with Salmonberry Tours and lots of history and a beautiful drive. The restaurant near the cabins is open on the weekends. - Buy the Milepost book from gas station or grocery store for $40 to detail things to see driving in Alaska and Canada - Talkeetna is a cute and artsy town with birch syrup, Mahay's Jetboat, Hurricane Turn whistle stop train in the summer or first Thursday of the month in winter (call Alaska railroad to book), views of Denali if clear, flightseeing tour of Denali, ranger station, cool museum, lots of art, rent bikes from Talkeetna Gear Shop, aurora viewing of clear, lots of community events, hike across railroad path to the other side of the Susitna River, etc - Explore Denali highway between Cantwell and Paxson but may have snow now - Denali Village is closed but park is open. The two towns south and north, Cantwell and Healy have laundry and showers. Lots of hiking and views. Lastly make sure you are winterized as it is below freezing at night already in Anchorage. Chatting with locals is your best bet in Alaska. Everything is not online.

@@tacrewgirl wow! Thank you so much for all the recommendations. Sorry you had to write them twice! We loved Hatcher Pass and Talkeetna. Probably won’t get back there on this trip, but will put your recs on the list for next time. 😊 Thanks for the Denali info! We’re hoping to do the Denali highway in a couple of days, but watching weather closely. Looks like snow is on the way. It gets chilly way faster up here than it does at home in Tahoe! Thanks again!!!

Find a harbor masters office (in a harbor) they give away tide charts booklets, and the tide charts will tell you the best time to halibut fish. They have a little halibut icon that gets bigger or small depending on the best time to fish.

Good advice! We looked it up online, but like the icons that get smaller and bigger depending on the time of day. Thanks!

Hi, watching your great videos from South Wales UK. Alaska is now firmly on my bucket list!! I was just wondering what happens with Wes, when you go on these cool trips, like the boat trips or when you went to the Bear camp spot.... do you leave him in the van or do you board him somewhere?? X
@AdventureOutThere
@AdventureOutThere 4 дня назад
Hello on South Wales! Thanks so much for being here and commenting! It depends on how long we need to leave Wez for. If it’s 6 hours or less, like the fishing charter, he’s good hanging out in the van and taking a long nap. If an activity would be longer than 6 hours, then we just won’t do it because we don’t want to leave him alone that long. For Katmai with the bears, we found a pet sitter on the Rover app and took him to her house. She had a big yard and some pups of her own to play with, so it was a little doggy vacation for him while we were gone for two nights. Hope that helps!
