Hi @neeneemarie! Yep, morels! Can't resist those little treasures, especially when they're sautéed just right. 🍄 Hope Walter's keeping an eye out for you on your next adventure-maybe he’s got a knack for finding them too! 😸 Keep rocking your channel!
51 isnt a problem, its van life without the van! My high school buddy is 58 and he’s lived in a van for 5 years, no real problems to speak of, but I would say a van is as minimal as i would go. A toilet , shower, and a comfortable bed make life much more doable . Good luck with your journey!
You're so right, Steve-51 is just a number! Van life without the van is definitely a unique twist, but it keeps things interesting. Your high school buddy sounds like a pro, and I totally get the appeal of a few more creature comforts. A comfy bed, a shower, and a toilet would make things a bit more "civilized," but where’s the fun in that? 😄 Thanks for the well wishes, and who knows, maybe I’ll upgrade to a van one day! Safe travels to your buddy! 🚐
@sasvanach7859 That’s awesome! You’re proving that age is just a number when it comes to living the van life dream. Four years on the road sounds like you've got it down to an art. Keep loving that van life-who knows, maybe I'll be joining you in a van one day! 🚐✨
You go girl; 68 here- and still tent camping myself. As for moisture/condensation issues…my folks used desiccated crystals- sold in small tubs, that absorb. They had the same issues in all their RVs, no matter the class.
@nancyhanson3472 That’s amazing, Nancy! 68 and just getting started-you're proof that it's never too late to embrace the van life adventure. Wishing you all the best as you hit the road. Your journey is going to be incredible! 🚐✨
@quitaulla1569 Thanks so much! Your support means the world to me. ✌️👍 I’m excited to embrace this new chapter, and with awesome folks like you cheering me on, I know it’s going to be a great ride. Stay tuned for the adventures ahead! 🚐😊
To make such a drastic lifestyle change, my thoughts would be to practice it part time first so you can plan your build a little better. Hope you continue to enjoy van life.
@sandraschaeffer6365 That's great advice, Sandra! Easing into van life part-time could definitely help iron out those kinks and make for a smoother transition. But I guess I'm the type to dive right in! 😊 Thanks for the tip-I’ll keep it in mind as I continue this journey. Here's to making the most of van life, one step at a time! 🚐✨
Looking forward to following your journey, and no - you're never too old, if you're doing what you enjoy. We have to live for today because tomorrow is promised to no one. Enjoyed your video very much. Safe travels!
Thank you for putting your journey out here. I am older and would love to have the opportunity to go full time, but obligations keep me stationary, with a homebase for now. I do get out as much as I can. I'm looking forward to following you on your adventures. Thank you again for taking us along. 😊
@anitasimmons3599 Thank you so much, Anita! I'm glad to have you along for the ride. Even with a home base, it's awesome that you get out whenever you can-that’s what it’s all about! I'll keep sharing the journey, and hopefully, it'll bring a bit of that adventure spirit your way. 😊 Looking forward to having you with me on this wild ride!
Grown kids, I started living in my van at 51. Currently I am 65,. I achieved my goal two years ago….. being somewhere and taking care of horses. currently on 20 acre horse ranch on the hills above Santa Barbara,CA “ nothing evolves in a comfort zone“ Being mentally, physically and spiritually challenged every day is much healthier for me.
Too old? Not in my books. 60 is right around the corner and I’m loving my nomadic life in all seasons. Awesome when I see others who took the plunge. The lifestyle isn’t for everyone; if it’s in your bones, it’s in your bones. 💛
I currently have a RAV4 hybrid w a bed in the back. Just for camping and weekends. When I go nomad I’m Gonna do an RV. More room- and will get a good WiFi set up and solar in addition to generator since I need to work on it. Everyone does it their own way. You gotta do what works for you! 😊
Nancy glad you chose the 6 cylinder and 4x4 model. My 4 cylinder has continually stranded me after 50k even with Jeep's extended warranty. I slept on the left side as well. Yoga mats and a quilt made the diff. I enjoyed traveling in my 50s but health issues changed everything at 60. Been resting and recovering for 3 years now. Getting the itch again but the homeless population has increased in the US by 200% in the last 2 years. Maybe i will see you on the road. Planning a trip to the NW after Labor Day. 😁
As long as you're physically able to hop into and out of a vehicle age isn't too big of a deal. What you might wish to consider is a Toyota Sienna Hybrid mini van if you find the Jeep too cramped. It gets pretty good milage, and being a hybrid you should be able to put the climate control into Auto mode while parked and it'll first drain the hybrid battery to run AC or heat , then automatically fire up the engine once it senses the battery is depleting....recharging the battery while continuing to provide heat or AC, and rinse and repeat which should end most climate control and condensation issues. But off roading isn't it's forte.
@markbajek2541 Thanks for the tip, Mark! The Toyota Sienna Hybrid sounds like a solid option, especially for those climate control perks. I’ll definitely keep that in mind if the Jeep starts feeling a little too tight. It might not handle the off-road like my Jeep, but it sounds like a comfy ride for sure. Appreciate the suggestion, and here's to staying adventurous, no matter the vehicle! 🚐🔥
Im 65 and just starting my on the road for good,i just got sick of waiting for whatever it was that was keeping me from doing this,,should have done it years ago, love your videos!
You’re a great storyteller! I can’t wait to see where this journey goes. My wife and I are 69 years old and we just built a camper van. We’re not Van lifers, just travelers that like to return to our home near Niagara Falls. You definitely aren’t too old for your adventures but I often think we are. We aren’t spry 69er’s. The affects of old age are definitely limiting our mobility but we do as much as we can. Enjoy your young 51.
I think everything would be easier and better with a different vehicle. I've traveled the USA with a Ram Promaster, for example. If you are going to ignite your passion, do it with the right "environment." Not with a car.
The only bad decision of Van Life... Is not doing it at all! Im 55 and have been living in my 2004 Toyota Highlander for the past 4 and a half years. I've never been happier and I wouldnt change a thing...
You’re not too old, I can’t wait to get back on the road. I’ll be 65. I did it when I was 62. Looking forward to it again with my dog. enjoy your video. Safe travels.
Interesting video. A little short though. I’m around the same age as you and I’m about to “semi retire “. I look forward to seeing more of your adventures 😊
I’m in a 4Runner and love it. Love being able to get to places a van can’t get to. I also love it’s so stealthy I can park anywhere if I’m in a city. I’m 61. Have fun!!!
Hello, my friend! Thanks ever so much. Happy to hear from you. I'm living in my Jeep for just one more month, then I'm planning a 5 month stay in South America.
51s not that old…I’m 53…. Doing the same thing in a van….. I sold everything … well almost everything….. bought a van… and I am building it out while I live inside of it….. 51 is not that old😎👍
Thanks for watching, Bryan! Your Ford Transit looks a little more comfortable than my Jeep Cherokee. 😂 Keep up the adventures and welcome to the community. ❤❤❤
I'm over 55 and have another year before I'm on the road. I have a small leather business/hobby and a Toyota Sequoia. My goal is to have an acre of land somewhere just in case but to be mostly travelling. Maybe we'll say hi some day.
I hit the road full-time at 49, lived on the back of my motorcycle, camped, stayed in little motels, loved it! Now I'm in a small Class C motorhome, still loving life! You've got the right spirit and attitude - enjoy every minute!!
Love this... Thank u for sharing the realities of sunny times and the cloudy ones too... I'm super particular about my mattress and bedding, everything else i will deal with, but not a terrible night's sleep that i can't get back. Travel safe and smiling.
I am not sure how much money you have but, if you can, buy a Springbar or Kodiak tent. if that is too much money, some tarps and stakes so you can have a covered area behind your trunk. Even a pop up tent could help with some privacy issues and increases the living space. OR, get an awning for your car and put down a carpet/large mat. If you have a few thousand dollars, maybe a Runaway trailer or even a basic cargo trailer might be an option. Granted, some trailers may prevent you from going into the back country so look into off-road styles, if you want. The cool thing with a trailer of any type is you can park your vehicle and trailer side-by-side with 6 or so feet between them and put a tarp over head, acting as a roof. Drastically increases living space. Again, I make these suggestions not knowing your budget so maybe these are not realistic options for you.
Too old? Only when I’m too decrepit to drive! I’m 70, have almost reached the end of my first year full time. I figure I have 10-15 years to see the country.
I’m 76 and I van camp whenever I can. I have some health issues so not able to go as far as I’d like. Glad to see how adventurous you are and hope you have safe travels and lots of adventures.😂❤😊
It isn't van life if you're living in an SUV! Having a van suitably sized for your needs is key. I live about half the year in a 144 wheelbase sprinter. I can fit all my surfboards, wingfoiling gear and a mountain bike and still have plenty of room. My bed is more comfortable than the one I have at home. Space and comfort are important. Upsize your rig and it will be way better. Best wishes
That's pretty awesome, Rob. You fit everything in, AND your bed is more comfy than the one at home. Looking forward to the day I can do that. Thanks for watching!
We’re in our late 60s retired and touring South America in our van. Mind you we can stand up inside our van and have traveled all our lives. Living in an SUV would be tough for us. Cheers
Looks like you need to take Horace Greeley's advice and go"WEST" to Sunshine and beautiful even more beautiful scenery! Ha! Good luck!! Congratulations
I admire your courage, spirit and positive energy. Look into these 2 small trailers: The Road Toad and The Cool Camp. Though you'd spend more on gas, a little more room and comfort for you could be just the ticket. Safe and happy travels. Keep chasing your dreams Young Lady.
Do I think about selling everything? Almost everyday. My kids are still too young though. Do you work from the road or have you managed an early retirement? Have fun!
I guess you are a little more compact than me. I'm 6'2'', not fat, but not exactly skinny either. 😁 If I can't stretch out, I can't get good sleep. There's no way I'd fit in that Jeep. Heck, driving long distances in it would be a challenge because my legs don't get support (seat won't go back far enough), and I've got a knee problem that would make it painful after a couple of hours. But I'm glad you are comfortable enough and are out there doing it. I'm in South Florida and I have a small service business. I keep thinking I might convert one of my service vans when it gets another year on it. Of course, it will have to have the creature comforts, or my wife will say no way. I'd love to spend a month or two at a time out west in the mountains. We have visited out there a couple of times for a week or two but that really doesn't do it justice. Trying to cram as much in as you can during a short vacation always leaves me wanting. Having a rolling house just makes sense (Or I might be crazy. The jury is still out!)
Hey Roger! At 6'2'', you'd probably be playing a game of Twister trying to fit in my Jeep Cherokee 😁. I totally get it-comfort is key, especially on those long hauls. Converting one of your service vans sounds like a brilliant plan, especially if you want to explore the mountains at your own pace. And hey, if your wife gets on board with it, you’ll have a rolling luxury suite! Trust me, spending more than a week or two out west makes all the difference. So, whether it's sanity or just the call of the wild, I say go for it! 🚐💨 The mountains are calling!
Nice job on this video. I have thought about adding my RU-vid channel on my rig but as a single woman, I worry about my safety as I boondock alone quite a bit. Has that ever been an issue for you?
Thank you for sharing, but I don't understand, why not get a used All Wheel Drive Ford or Sprinter, amount of space you gain and comfort seems no brainer, if u can educate me why I got this wrong, would be great. Happy Travels and I am rooting for you
Hey great video and well done you for living your life. May I ask did you find it hard to do this and not worry about your kids. I really struggle to want to do this as I think I’m being selfish. Some advice would be appreciated. Best of luck. Jonathan 🇬🇧
Hi Jonathan, welcome to the community! My kids are on board with me. Everyone's circumstances are different, and you probably want to talk things over with them to feel it out. Wherever your adventures lead you, in the UK and beyond, I wish you nothing but the best. ❤
I didn’t change my name for my RU-vid channel. I don’t have as many videos as you, but my channel is my name….. and I don’t have any subscribers as you yet… I’m way behind on my videos, but I’m still filming. I’m trying to get the bill done spend most of my time doing that.
You'll never get too old to live your life. Live it on your terms. Don't worry what other people think. It's your life and none of their business how you live it. Life is like a rodeo. Just ride it!! Yeee hawww!!
Nope, not for me. I like to do it part-time, have a truck and trailer but I need a home to come back to. 51 is not too old for enjoying your life choice.
