i like it. No dirty laundry bags to store. Wash clothes you used that day. Don't need as much clothes since there won"t be a dirty pile. You will need to store more water a gallon per wash, not so bad. Maybe look into fitting a clean water tank (10/20+ gal) above passenger seat area some tanks have plumbing kits with it. Maybe RV dealers have some ideas about install. :)

In my opinion, the small load doesn't match the pedaling effort. For hand washing, I would rather do it the traditional way: Putting my clothes in a bucket of water and hand wash them one by one
@Framlii

I use a basecamp portable electric washing machine and a spin dryer. Both fit in the tub and they both get the job done. They have them at the laundry alternative. Best money spent. The washer will only due 1 queen size sheet though, but all clothes are fine. Had them both for 5 yrs now. If the washer fails, i have a bucket and a plunger to replace it. Cleans your clothes just as well. 👍

Ma Sato, absolutely. Get two plastic buckets from Home Despot. One for soap and one for rinse. Plus you can use the buckets for other things.
@jenniferharris7633
@jenniferharris7633 4 года назад
Don't pedal so fast. The idea is to tumble the clothes in the tub, which is what cleans them. If you pedal too fast, the centrifugal force keeps them pinned to the sides of the tub. Unless your clothes are really dirty, you could use the same soapy water for multiple loads. Just squeeze your wet soapy clothes out and put them aside and wash another load in the same wash water. Wouldnt recommend doing this with the rinse water though.

You are not supposed to spin it very fast. As is said in the instruction manual 12 - 20 spins a minute. So that colthes can 'tumble' which cleans them instead of sticking to the walls and uselessly spinning.

I have had my drumi for about 5 months. This is for minimalist with not much clothing and who like to do small loads. The best thing about this machine is the final rinse and spin cycle it helps with ringing the water out of your clothing . You will get a workout using it. And I do hang most of my clothing to air dry. I believe this is designed for people who like to live off the grid or van life. This machine works for me because I do not have many cloths and most are merino wool which dry much faster when I hang to dry.I only do laundry once a week sometimes one load or two loads. This machine is not for everyone, this more for the extreme minimalist.

A large salad spinner works just as well... I should clarify... If you want to do laundry in your van, with no electricity, You can use your bathtub to wash everything (They make hand held agitators that look like plungers,) Then spin with a salad spinner. I have the OXO brand because you pump it rather than turning a handle. Less work, more dry. 💕😃💕

I’m a bachelor who lives alone in a small apartment. i do my laundry just once a week or so, using a pail, but have it done full service (wash-dry-fold) in a laundromat if my schedule is more hectic (or if I’m feeling lazy). The pail I use is around 6 to 7 gallons in size, and a week’s worth of laundry takes just one load. If I used this device, i’d probably have to repeat 4 or 5 times, so i don’t think it’s worth it. But since you bought it already, might as well use it until it breaks.

I learned how to use a wringer washer and do laundry by hand from my grandma. Get a plastic dish basin and some OxiCleen (or generic) in a little warm water. Soak, squeeze, and rub and dirt off. Pull out and squeeze the water out. Put warm fresh water in the tub and rinse with the same method. Wring out excess water and hang to dry. Much cheaper and takes less room in your limited space. Still this is an interesting option using your feet if twisting with both hands isn’t physically possible.

Okay. Here's some constructive criticism... after the 1st washing, you need to remove the clothes and squeeze or wring out the excess soap water before replacing the clothes and refilling to rinse. Also, rinse the clothes at least twice with fresh water. Leaving detergent in will cause allergic or topical skin issues when worn. When you sweat or get wet, the residual soap will activate or lather up the clothes on you - not to mention the germs are still there hanging on. Your clothes may not smell so pleasant and neither will you if that happens. Great video, but, too costly for me.

I have a much cheaper drum style that I hand crank. I thought it would be great off grid. It washes more clothing than the one presented but takes 5 gallons of water per load. I have to compare how much water I have and whats more important in the desert, washing clothes or taking a shower.. I'm debating on whether its worth the storage space or as others mentioned, a "plunger" type which can be used i the tub or a bucket. You can even put water in a bucket or tub and let it soak and move a bit while your traveling. PS ...I use the gray rinse water for toilet flushing or giving my dog a bath... PPS. There is an AMAZING new shower method that involves a pump and water filter that only requires a 1/2 gallon of water and you can shower as long as you want!! so maybe using more water on clothes isn't even an issue any longer!

I have 2. A closed manual washer bucket. A laundry wand. In my opinion I prefer the wand for quick, targeted washing. So I can agitate the water on where I need it. The manual washer is a gentler wash so you have to propel wash like 20 mins. Manual drum: Pro: saves water and electricity. Get some exercise. Con: can only wash small things. Takes up some valuable space for draining and adding water. So the wand doesn't need special equipment. Just a bucket and water is all you need. It's like churning butter. But you can do it in your bathtub or sink or bucket. It collapses into a small area so can hide away easily. For the price, neither cost me more than $60.

If they look and smell clean then this is a result. I'd probably spin them a bit more to take out the excess water. Great leg exercise! 😀

I use a large jar with a couple pumps of hand soap and water. Fits unders, socks, and 2 tops. Soak it at night, agitate and rinse in the morning. Then hang outside. Looking at this I might try a salad spinner instead of hand wringing. Also, after bathing in pet pool I'll soak my larger items then rinse and hang outside. Some days need a couple of rinses. Could stop at a laundry but I like the zen of it. :)

Nope. Not worth the effort, even if the unit costs nothing. A plunger in a 5 gal bucket is as efficient and you can do sheets. 🙄

We are a bit less sophisticated, we use a toilet plunger and bucket on our Sailboat. Our bucket can also be used for other purposes, its all about the space savings. Let us know after a couple months use how you like it.

My aunt gave me a portable washer 3 years ago and it costed $60 I believe and you can wash a little bit more. But you have to plug it into a outlet and it does all the stuff for you it's more ment for a dorm or rv or small apartment without access to a real washer.

I can't say much on this because my wife and I decided to buy a washing machine but we life full time in our 28 ft class A RV. So we got to thinking about it and we found a nice little washer made by a company called costs at and it was just what we needed so we took a chance on the washer and so far 6 mtg later it's still going even with the 3 of us living here oh yeah our 14 yr old daughter. And it does work well gets close clean. Well peace out fellow campers.

I like the portable washer and spin dryer the best one runs with electric and you can connect to sink or bathtub any water fuset and dried it in your spin dryer with the hose in the sink or bathtub that seems to be proberly the best.
