Van Life | Expediting - How much money do I make? 

XPO. 80cpm 35cpm deadhead. 35 CPM for dead move to a better area. At current, 12 CPM fuel surcharge. with a big sprinter. It's slow during the winter so I'm not making a whole lot but I live in the van and I'm still making enough to be happy. When it's busy during the summer months, the van has the potential to make 2500 to $2, 600 a week after expenses

You didn't say anything worth anything but things change. You didn't say how much you make a week, how much you could make a week, how much you could make a year. Nothing.

Seriously man, why even make this video if you're not going to come anywhere close to answering the question? Just give us a ballpark estimate or something! Anything!

I'm a truck driver, and i can tell u i average of $1100 a week . So average man, average.

The only way to survive is to drive for a company that pays enough for you to return home after every load. I make 1.20- 1.75 CPM. I sleep in hotels, not my van. Been expediting for 12 years. High paying companies are out there. Never drive for a company that gets loads off of load boards. It's cheap freight.

Is there room in van expediting for a woman like me? I can't lift very heavy things but I love travel and being on the road. How should I get started?

You should have a pretty good idea of how your #'s average out in a average week. You know, "basically", how much you will bring in, how much your cost to be out on the road will be and how many miles you will run. If you didn't, you would hang it up by now. (Not trying to be a contrarian, it's just business)

People that think they are “traveling” think it over Yes you can visit places when you make great money in any size vehicle But please dont think work is travel You just see highways I do enjoy the scenery am a nature lover And when am tired i see the $$$$ signs to keep me going

Alright my friend, you said do the math. 1000 miles @.85 = $850, agreed. 300 miles @1.50 = $525? My math says $450. lol If not, sign me up. I'll be your driver! Anyhow, made it to Miami. Scheduled my truck service for tomorrow. Probably bad timing. Might be hear the weekend but that's life. No truck, no $$$$$. Had to comment on the math but you're 100% right. Then just give an average... its better than getting no answer like most of you all say, just to get air time... Just do a weekly report an how your week went with pay....

Is the 2500 enough or would you recommend the 3500 for the extra payload? I know to stay away from the dually because it narrows your cargo floor area. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

So you made a 10 minute video titled , " How much do I make?", to say one thing , 10 different ways, and didn't say how much you make. You could have easily said what your average per month is, or the least/most you've gotten per mile, or per mile average. Or spared us this 10 minute video and made it a 1 minute video and said "the pay varies" (which I'm sure most people already know) then end the video. I learned nothing from this video except not to watch anymore videos of yours. Pointless video, unless you enjoy watching someone sit in a van and make coffee. But hey, stay safe on road

I’ve always worked on commission and never looked at my pay on a weekly basis. There are times when you don’t make anything, I mean 0 dollars, for weeks and then the last week of the month it all hits. I see this as a commission job. I’m about to start expediting and I’m expecting to have bad weeks. What I haven’t seen anyone talk about is their monthly income. So you just said here is how much I make in the title but you simply forgot to mention how much you actually make? Wasn't that the whole point of making the video?? I'm a contractor and I don't make the same amount of money on weekly basis however I know and I can tell you how much I make a month and per year. Don't waist our time with hypothetical answers what you could make and what I've made. Get straight to the point.

How i can find load for sprinter van. Please advice. I am owner operator in Macungie, PA.Dat Loadboard sucks. Cant find any load for sprinter at all.

And another thing. If my van, or especially 2, were signed on with a carrier averaging 1000 - 1500 a week, I would find another dispatch. This is the slow season and I am averaging over 2000 a week. Not directed to you Tim, just the person commenting.

If you can't tell them what you make you just give them an average of what you make let's say one month your average pay was that's how you do that..

at the end of the year, after the IRS has taken their bite, how much went into your bank account for the year. then , how many days out of he year did you not have money coming in.

Do you get your loads with a load board ?

same as hauling rvs, the company i was with had a SET price but it all dependes on where the trailer was going and where the next one was going. good video!

Hello Tim. Please excuse my ignorance - I'm a Brit', lol - but what is an 'expediter'? Sure, I know the dictionary definition, but in your sphere of work, what is it you do exactly?

I hate to be a nit picky dick about this, but you didn't actually answer the question the title implies. The correct answer, for most of us leased to a carrier, is 1000-1500 miles a week, and $1000-1500 a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but I have 2 sprinters (promasters) leased on to major carriers and over the last 3 years that's about what we average. As said, not trying to be a dick. In that spirit, I would ask another question: You appear to be what I call a "white tail" which means no carrier, no DOT number, I assume no authority. That can be a good or bad thing. Lots of sketchy immigrants in ratty sprinters and Pensky Uhaul trucks do this without even a driver's license. They drive until they get busted, then another one takes their place. I'm not saying that's you, but I wonder how you feel about those guys since, as an independant, you are competing with them mostly. Thoughts?

Who pays for gas and maintainace....

I make .45 cpm I have to pay for fuel I have to pay for a lease on the truck that I'll never own I have to pay for occupational insurance I got to pay 20% for escrow. And you have to wait around for them to bid on loads so last week I got stuck in Arizona for 5 days I made $1,000 going from Minnesota to Arizona after all those fees I brought home 245 bucks

I love being home, but sometimes miss the adventure. OTR general freight is no way to make money. Too many "bottom feeders" will take the cheap loads & the brokers know that. You have to find a niche. Expediting looks very appealing, but I can't afford a divorce. LOL

Nice Video. Can you give more information on your expenses. Like how many miles to the gallon does your vehicle get towing freight? Do you sleep in your vehicle or do you stay in motels? When the temperature gets really hot or cold do you stay in your vehicle when you are waiting to get a delivery?

Can we find someone make a short video n simple how much u make roughly a week , Instead of lesson more then 10 minutes without knowing how much money I would take home a week . When I say take home I mean after take out all expenses .

Tim, Its less important to know how much you make, and more important to know how much you get to keep...what is the bottom line after all expenses? Please give us an idea how much can be made in this line of work on an annual basis instead of talking about individual runs. Gross income less all deductible expenses...fuel, insurance, lodging, maintenance....You could say you made $100,000 last year, which would sound impressive, but if you had $75,000 in expenses, then not so much. Thank you.
