Creating art in nature, off-grid, out of a van... what a life! Get a one year supply of Vitamin D drops + 5 travel packs with your first purchase of AG1: drinkag1.com/l...
Thanks for being here everyone! Van life has just gotten sweeter and sweeter. The more I find passion in various things, the more I realize I can make almost anything work in the van. There have been many questions about how I've been able to merge pottery and van life.
For right now, I continue to use the studio in town to do the majority of my work, and to fire the pots. I hope to do the entire process off-grid in just a few short months on the property.
Big projects to come!!

My grandmother used to have a manual pottery wheel. It had a large stone underneath (in a large wooden ring) that she would push with her foot to make it go round & round. Must've been exhausting! She made most of the dishes for our cabin, that we still use today. 🙂 Happy Crafternoon~~ xo

Grab a spray bottle next time you are at the store for water. Perfect to use for the pottery during the process in the desert . you can also spray a few pumps on the pieces throughout the day while keeping them under the plastic. :)

Hi Linnea, I’m sorry to see your beautiful pots crack on you. I have a suggestion you might want to give it a try. I make Hypertufa planters and to prevent the plant pots from cracking after the form has been made, I wrapped them loosely with wet newspapers and put them into a plastic bag and leave them for several days to slow down the drying time and to prevent cracking. Just a thought you could give it a try.! ❤ Kudos to Chris and the Ghost scene!😂❤

It's so fun to watch you throw. I'm pretty new to it as well. Your designs are great! I just built out the basement livingroom into my pottery studio. I have learned a lot in the process. One thing you really need to be aware of (you may already know) is potters lung aka silicosis. The silica in the clay dust can be really dangerous if you don't have proper air filtration, or at very least good exhaust ventilation. Can't wait to see what you put together on the land!

If you add a bit of either Titanium Oxide or Zinc Oxide powder to your lotion, you have a moisturizing sunblock. Mix one jar day cream with this and apply before going outside. Use other jar without this as your night moisturizer. Off course you can just add it into the batch, and have the sunblock not blocking anything at night, lol. I did this before and added a drop or two green food colour and sold it to family members as a day cream and night cream. They came telling me how different the two felt and how it was getting rid of wrinkles, lol.

Just a thought on the mugs drying too quickly in the desert - have you tried leaving a pot or pan with water under the tarp with them while they dry? I don't know if it would do it, but having grown up in the desert I can confirm that any bit of moisture helps. Loved watching you create, it's inspiring and man, now I want to try making some tallow balm!

I would love to do the van life and I, like you do art. I am a mixed media artist that does greeting cards and junk journals to sell. I have a ton of supplies and would like to have some studio space. Hard to do when you don’t have anywhere to do that or for that matter the money to it with. I envy you as you already have the land to put up some type of studio space. On top of this , I left all but a small amount of my supplies in a friend’s garage in the Springs until I could come back and get it. I have spent the last 6 months re-thinking my move down here. What I had hoped would happen down here did not work out and I need to make some choices moving forward. Wish me luck and sorry for the long story.

If you find that the pottery dries too fast when you have it in a shed, utilize a humidifier to keep the air from being so dry. That should slow down the drying process.
