My wife and I are subscribed to a several amateur aircraft build channels. We jot down notes of useful "nuggets" to take advantage of, or stay away from, so we can make our future build less bumpy. So, thanks for sharing your approaches to solving certain challenges. In regards to the slings that you're building your horizontal stab in. I get the feature of being having the ability to tilt the workpiece, but I'd be more concerned with holding the stab stable for straight alignment sake. I know everything is predrilled, but a solid cradle just clicks better with me. As far as the air hose to tool connectors, I have these on all of my air tools: www.browntool.com/Listview/tabid/344/ProductID/2689/Default.aspx (NOTE: NOT endorsing Brown Tool, nor this particular manufacturer, I like them because they're more compact than others I've seen out there.) Keep slugging away at it.

Good strategy! We’re always on the lookout for helpful tips and tricks from other builders 😊 I totally understand your perspective on the cradles. Fortunately the instructions specifically said, “Don’t waste time making the cradles perfect; they have no bearing on the alignment of the stabilizer.” So we weren’t concerned and went with an option we thought might be more helpful for us personally. Thanks for the suggestion for the connector! That’s exactly what I want. Very much appreciated 😊 I’m ordering one for that pop rivet gun. Thanks!

@@PlaneLady RE: the cradles. That's the beauty of Van's. They've got a lock on their parts matching one-another. The cradles are not jigs (rigid/formative) but serve to simply support the component. Thanks for the note in the plans for cradles. To determine if such a project was within our capabilities, I acquired the thumb drive plans for both the -14, and the -10. I see the note you quoted in the -10 plans (page 8-7) but there is no such note for the -14. Van's relied heavily on the design and building methods of the -10 when they designed the -14. Maybe getting the plans for the -10 was a good move. If I get stuck on a particular area, I can fall-back to, "what does the -10 plans say regarding 'X'.

The limited times I’ve used an offset rivet set, I used 2 inch painters tape to hold the set to the gun. Probably duct tape would be better.. I’ll try that next time!

Let me know how it goes. Haven’t tried taping it before and curious to know how well it works

I really like your running commentary. I abandoned a -9A project several years ago but will be starting a -14A shortly. I did finish most of the empennage for the -9A and can really identify with the "issues" that come up since the -10's HS is so similar. I think your scaffold idea is great and may try that when I get into the -14A. Thanks for posting these videos.

Best of luck with your 14A! 😊 the scaffolding really made it so easy to move around and get to everything in the horizontal stabilizer

👋. How much time do you spend at a build session and how often? Garage have A/C?

We work anywhere from 2-3 hours up to 8-9 hours. And we try work almost every day on it, but every now and then we take a day off. We do have a small A/C unit in the garage so that makes it more pleasant.
