Check out my sweet 1997 van that looks like a gas station cup straight out of the 90's! I've been "remodeling" the interior over the past year. I use that term lightly as it's mostly minor things to modernize it a bit, and freshen it up. Many things I've done to it were not addressed in the video, the largest projects so far were new flooring and removing all the cupboards and doors for fresh paint, as well as all new hardware. There are still many projects to go. My opinion is the original state is usually the best, but at some point 26 year old crusty carpet has got to go!

It went great. I bought it without really looking it over (like a dumbass) but the only thing we.ve found wrong was a minor leak in the gray water drain line that was an easy fix. @@stimulatemyexistence5669

Thank you for sharing the nice updates, we have a 2001 pleasure way. Can you share the window screen information? I am looking for screens for our van. We have not updated the inside yet, focusing on the suspension and drivability.

At 14:30 where you ask what's next to your exterior power outlet, that's your furnace vent. They sell vent cover screens (a little round wire mesh) that allows for airflow but keeps bugs out which is quite important. Your RV is in such beautiful shape. I have the same one in the same year but different layout. I would love to ask you some details about the shower pan and that piece that slides in that track if possible. Hope you create many great memories with it.
@kvandy851
@kvandy851 11 месяцев назад
Thanks, and now that you mention the furnace vent - that makes perfect sense! I'll have to check out the cover screens. What would you like to know about the shower pan?

@@kvandy851 Maybe I'm overthinking things but I'm embarrassed to say I've not fully figured out how to properly set up the shower. The original literature doesn't explain either. Yours actually has both a wet bath and a shower stall in the hall! Mine isn't a wet bath and has carpet in the bathroom which I plan to take out (who designed it with carpet in the bathroom??). I didn't realize there was a piece missing for the pan until I saw your video. Though it's little used, I bought it second hand and that part wasn't included. Probably not that big a deal to fabricate something with a bit of plastic and a squeegee or windshield wiper. It did seem odd to me but I assumed the shower curtain draped inwards. I plan on adding a reverse to my fantastic fan so that the curtain doesn't stick on me and was worried about securing the bottom but this part and some magnets solves the issue. However, the thing that still confuses me is the shower curtain (which mine was removed). Are you meant to have a front portion of the curtain off the track so that when you close it around the pan and reach the bathroom door, do you then hook it up to the other side so as to protect the door? Or are you supposed to have another piece to hang over the door to protect it? It doesn't make much sense that you'd use the door itself as a backstop unprotected. I very much appreciate you having taken the time to show the van. Hard to find little details on these.
@kvandy851
@kvandy851 11 месяцев назад
@@MrDagnombe The shower is a bit confusing for sure. Mine has a wet bath but it makes no sense to me to shower in it, because you would get the curtain and walls wet. The walls aren't plastic, they don't seem to be a material that should be wet? It would make more sense if there was also a shower curtain track that goes around the inside of the bathroom, so you could sit on the toilet with a curtain surrounding you, then you wouldn't get the curtains/walls wet. I thought about rigging something up that would enable me to try it that way. One thing I don't get is when showering in the hallway there is no hook or anything to hold up the shower head. I would guess your van is missing the slide in piece because someone broke it....though it should be fairly easy to make something, maybe cut a custom piece of PVC and put a thin layer of weather stripping on the bottom. What I did with the shower curtain was hang 2 curtains, one of which I cut in half, or maybe a third. The small piece goes across the open door and the big full sized shower curtain pulls all the way around, then I use clips similar to clothes pins to connect the two pieces. I agree with you it's hard to find details, and all the flyers and pamphlets aren't much help! I'm headed out on a 2+ long week road trip in a couple weeks, I'll film a video about showering and show the whole set up in more detail :)
@MrDagnombe
@MrDagnombe 11 месяцев назад
@@kvandy851 Thank you, this has been bugging me for some time. I'm glad to know I was on the right track. I may first try and see how the curtain does as a one piece and leave the front third off the track so it overlaps to the other side. Drying it probably makes it more of a pain than the two pieces though. I took a closer look at your vid and aside from the carpet on the floor the bathroom, it seems identical. Initially I was worried about not having an enclosed bathroom for showering but the hall shower was the real solution. You're right about those walls. I don't think they would handle water/soap scum etc well. A big regret I still have is when I bought it and drove off they had some bottle of liquid toilet chemical on the top rack and it leaked so those walls definitely stain and because of the texture I can't get it out completely. If you really wanted to go through the trouble you could line the walls with a thin plastic paneling to make it a true wet bath. It's what I plan on using for the floor once I rip the carpet out. It's called FRP and comes in a few designs, tiled, smooth, textured etc, (I have some left over and may use that to make the shower pan piece). Seriously doubt it's worth the hassle though as a wet bath just doesn't seem practical. Also not sure of the feasibility of trying to get a curtain in there and fighting it trying to shower with it sticking to you seems like a mess. In my mind the hall shower is the way to go. As for the shower head, I was considering making a reversible (so it's not protruding in the hall when not needed) mount for the handle that hangs or clamps to the top of the door. There is a gap above the door and you could make something like one of those coat hooks that hang over a door and attach a shower handle holder to it. You may also want to look into adding a reverse switch to your fantastic fan so the curtain doesn't stick to you. I hope you have a blast on your trip and look forward to seeing more videos.
@kvandy851
@kvandy851 11 месяцев назад
@@MrDagnombe That's a good idea to hook something over the top of the door for the shower head. I'll have to start thinking about that. I have an idea to keep the curtain from blowing in if you don't want to put in a new fan. It might seem silly, but they make collapsible hula hoops. Rig up some twine to it with a hook on the end to hang it over the top edge of the curtain itself. Then shower while you're standing inside the hoop. They have them on Amazon.

Great video. Hope you have great adventures with it. I'm looking one the same year as yours with 25,000 original miles on it. They're asking 26,000 for it. Is that too much?
@kvandy851
@kvandy851 3 месяца назад
Thanks, I'm having great adventures for sure! Just got back from a 3100+ mile road trip! 25,000 miles for a '97 seems sketchy. Are you positive it's not a scam?! There's a lot of fake listings online and the scammers always put really low miles like that! I would be concerned with it's lack of use that it has dry rot issues, I would have it checked out by a mechanic before shelling any money out. When I bought mine I had been van hunting/shopping for 8 months before finding mine. I viewed hundreds all over the country over those 8 months and I've seen anywhere from $13,000-30,000 for similar vans. Technically it's only "worth" $12-13,000. but they sell for what people are willing to pay for them. Unfortunately the market supports the jacked up prices.

@ChrisNYPilot I love the van! The only thing I would change is I'd love to have a model that had an automatic bed. If I could just press a button and watch it lay down to a queen without fighting the bed boards into place that'd be awesome. And a full wet bath would be awesome instead of the hallway shower. I use it for both short local camping trips and also 2 week long 3,000 mile cross country road trips! I've driven it clear from Iowa up to Maine and clear down to Louisiana!

@kvandy851
@kvandy851 2 месяца назад
@@user-ci9bs6yl7r No I bought the flooring from a local store, I don't think it's available anymore. You could try to search elsewhere for it, it's Rigid Core Max European Collection vinyl click-lock with attached pad, 5mm thick. Item # on the box says 29100-5. 9"x48" pieces. Beings it's click lock you don't have to glue it down, but since it's a vehicle and always shifting I did also use glue, plus the shower pan board's flooring had to be glued on. Glue: www.menards.com/main/flooring-rugs/vinyl-flooring/vinyl-installation-maintenance/tec-reg-vinyl-composition-tile-adhesive-1-quart/7047495117/p-1450446646231-c-6616.htm?exp=false For the black trim, I used the brand vpi from Menards, but this is basically the same: www.amazon.com/Baseboard-Molding-Flexible-Adhesive-Moulding/dp/B0BK8HXRFN/ref=sr_1_2?crid=37H0Q6VDQXHM5&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.U_OYh-J6ezPshSbq0qhM8fCwKzXnUvNel1YTVd9JassusApXkRDiTH9Fby8uLo8EYKrJ4mA5LSVFSv-LRTKCqlOa8OxnChEgbYjmflzwYlp-QEcIzYisSKjPHwPHc5iZ.L6kESrGu-3rxZVEe2tIiJrh4s6g2UJYEX_aVwg_inQs&dib_tag=se&keywords=vpi%2Bresidential%2Bself-stick%2Bvinyl%2Bwall%2Bbase&qid=1719176460&sprefix=vpi%2Bresident%2Caps%2C114&sr=8-2&th=1 Smaller trim for the edges: www.amazon.com/dp/B0B4B5BBFB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I did have to use a staple gun too on the trim pieces in a couple spots to hold it on. The stair edging on the steps came from Menards, I cut it to size. The stair edging around the shower pan is original, I removed it and painted it. I also redid the carpet on the shower pan cover. I just picked up a fluffy rug from Wal-Mart, cut it to size, and stapled it on.

Do you know how to swivel the captains chair?
@kvandy851
@kvandy851 10 месяцев назад
I'm not sure if the driver's seat swivels, I've never tried it (but will have to try now!). The passenger seat- if you're sitting in the seat there are two levers one to your left and one in front. Use the lever on the left to slide the chair as far forward towards the dash as possible. That's the only way to get the right side armrest to clear the door frame while spinning. Then lift up the lever in the front and spin the chair towards the driver's seat.
