You ask how many cops it takes to arrest a dude trying to stab them with a knife... as many as it damn takes. Each one of them is doing so risking their safety. Each one of them is doing it because they cant turn their backs and let the public deal with this asshole. It very easy to criticize when you are sitting on your sofa and there are no consequences with how you would have dealt with the situation.
Mentally disabled? How do you know this? Clearly he's a stranger to you when you filmed this, yet after 7 minutes of filming some dude across the street you know his mental fitness?!? Pretty insulting to the guy. Disarmed? How do you know? You can see into his pockets from a half block away? He already had a knife on him which the cops were cautious about him getting close to again, so you don't think they are going to be cautious again when there could be another one within arms reach in his clothes? In shock? You made a medical prognosis from a block away without even coming within yelling distance to speak with him! Just incredible. Man we have someone real special on our hands folks. Any police officers, psychiatrists or doctors looking for professional advice, contact this dude. He knows it all.
"Risking their safety"? Loggers, paramedics & construction workers jobs are more dangerous than cops. Um, there were 10 cops beating a man who was already shot in the leg. How exactly was he a danger to 10 heavily armed, kevlar armored cops?
no danger except for his weapon and the others he possibly had...please stfu you know nothing about how to subdue a criminal..you don't go in HOPING he won't stab or shoot you. these cops have families and are as important to society as a scumbag criminal.
+Dylan Lewis they didn't have to beat him. .. they just had to take 2 to do it to 12 and if you noticed the one cop got knocked over they ran in so hard to beat him
You know NOTHING about restraining a person. Perhaps take a self defense class or 2 and take on the role of an attacker. You are what is causing this huge problem of wanting our police force to do nothing but ask people nicely to stop breaking law or endangering the lives of others.
There is clearly little understanding on how hard it is to actually subdue someone who does not want to be, especially when they are mentally unhinged. They also needed to deal with this quickly, so that fire crews could move in to deal with the fire before it could spread. There are several people in danger here, with the danger increasing every moment that fire roars, and that man is not subdued, but absolutely, shame the authorities for keeping you safe.
I don't blame the police officer for firing on the guy if he charged at her with a knife. It was a dangerous situation and fortunately for the culprit he got away with a leg wound. Still the beating during apprehension of the suspect is uncalled for. How is kicking the guy while he is already being swarmed and subdued by multiple police valid protocol?
Alright so if you have an opinion on this matter you should know the following. What a Code 5 Take-down is What use of force is necessary Has the subject been searched Has the subject displayed any aggression What options are available So I'll tell you. Google code 5 Take-down to learn what it is. It's for a high risk situation such as a person running at an officer with a knife. That means you give commands to gain compliance. When the person fails to obey the commands you can use force to gain compliance (ie. Taser, Bean Bag Shotgun, K-9 Unit, Arwin Gun). When approaching the male they don't want any issues and as you can see he is resisting before even making contact. Watch the other video of this you can hear the female officer make commands to lay on his stomach and he does not comply. They haven't searched him so he might have another knife. They don't go into this to fight a fair fight. The police go in to win and take control of the situation. So if you don't agree think about if you were in that situation would you want to go 1v1 with him? No you wouldn't so sit down
John Doe I don't blame the officers for swarming the guy as he was obviously still dangerous and uncooperative. It was the kicking that seemed like overkill but as you guessed I do not know if this is reasonable force to use while taking a criminal into custody.
Maphisto86 So once again the whole reason why you should just relax and not offer any opinions until everything about the situation is explained. That male had a second knife, and yes he did pull it on the officers when they tried to arrest him. So kicking by all means is a definite proper use of force when the guy is trying to slash you with a knife. Sure as hell better to have you duty boots cut up instead of your hand, arm, or face.
Worst title ever. In what way are they beating the homeless man. Yes it is just a homeless man, but he is seemed to be a threat towards society. Plus, cars cannot explode.
Whoever shot this video obviously has no clue as to what it is like dealing with a situation like this..So easy to judge and criticize while sitting safely on your home.. try doing their job on a daily basis.
please change your title! police had every right to do what they had to do to control this situation. maybe the homeless guy wanted some free shelter/food for a couple months?
I personally see nothing wrong with what they did, but that's just me. You spamming your point isn't going to change my mind, just like if I spammed my point, it won't change yours. So it's pointless... it's just annoying.
Yes, you're annoyed by the fact that a reasonable person, who by the way IS a first responder (note medic in the name) thinks that 10 cops swarming a man they've already shot is overkill. This means you have not had enough to think. Try some more of it.
So since you are a "medic" (just because its in your name doesn't means shit), then I guess you would have been cool if the cops put him in your ambulance, removed the handcuffs and said bon voyage! Because, two people in an ambulance is all you need to control someone who was shot... On a serious note I hope you are not a paramedic. Id hope our first responders would have more common sense.

Oh this is too good. Occupymedic, the poster claiming to be a BC Paramedic, is actual Mathew Kagis, the candidate for the 'Work Less Party". twitter.com/occupymedic www.straight.com/news/379086/work-less-partys-mathew-kagis-isnt-afraid-issues You come on here claiming to be a first responder, but in fact are a waiter at some restaurant in the west end and was a 'medic' during the occupy protests years ago. Pathetic.
Here are some great photos of what happened before these guys took the video www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/amateur-photographer-captures-moment-vancouver-police-officer-shot-knife-wielding-man/ar-BBtzAD4?li=AAggNb9#image=BBtzJv9|1 . The dude was charging her with a knife she had no choice but to shoot.
why didn't you guys go help... he was shot and was being beaten.. I though we was civilized people and society.... huh guess I was wrong. police can be cruel. but the fact that nobody tried to help.was horrible. all we do is pull out a camera and then we just do what society tells us to do. . nothing.
OMG another fricken vertical video! If this had been shot horizontally like TV and computer screens are, and like are eyes are, then everything would have been in the scene (the burning car, the guy on the ground and the police). Instead the person filming takes a vertical shot and has to continually pan left to right because he cant get everything in the shot...Vertical video sucks! Just sayin'
