📝 GENERAL OBSERVATIONS
Departure Airport - The Domestic check-in terminal is starting to show its age. The rest of the terminal has carpet and vinyl 'hard wood' throughout and the Domestic check-in area is all tile. There is ongoing renovations which has limited options in the shopping section and taking place behind the shrouding next to Security were the final preparations for a new White Spot family restaurant. The gate agent was great. I got a call on the phone wondering if I was going to make the flight. Despite being the very last on the plane, we pushed back on time.
On Board / In Flight - The Saab 340b is perfectly-sized short-hop plane. The 20 minute flight between Vancouver, across the water to Nanaimo was a perfect mission. Pacific Coastal Airlines flies to Masset, well over an hour away and it serves that purpose well. Of course, there are no 'convenience' amenities on board and with the flight being so short, there was no onboard service. The flight attendant was delightful and clearly loved her job. Flying at 4250 feet, the scenery was magnificent and well compensated for the lack of modern Inflight Entertainment Systems. Who needs them when you have an unobstructed view of the Earth?
Arrival Airport - I was pleasantly surprised. The terminal is much larger than I would have expected with full-on amenities of a domestic regional airport. Of course I had a Nanaimo Bar in the cafeteria. The wifi was difficult to connect to as there were several wifi network options but once connected it worked well.
