I distrust the thoroughness of her research. Yes the argument has some validity but she over sensationalises the reality of *some* of these developments and her ambitions for the competing vision are remarkably low. African cities deserve better than what she suggest is the alternative to the urban fantasies she mocks. Those developments yes are not considerate of the urban poor and the majority populations of these cities but they deserve much better than lack lust upgrading projects that still fail to contextualise the way they live and their communities and cultures. We must do and propose better!
I absolutely love your critique of this, But I think the point here is to understand that there needs to be more consideration for planning and designing architecture in Africa and our governments needs to stop buying pretty pictures from planners and designers who have very little consideration of place and its people but driven by financial benefit. Yes African Cities do deserve better and believe me you There are a lot of African architects that can do better but it needs to start with understanding what the problem is.
