Tina Fletcher She does not seem intimidated, with Oprah. She was ready, for her then. Oprah, kept, on bringing up negative comments. You can tell Oprah is jeolosy of her. She probably felt, she could never compete against Vanessa, no matter, how famous, she got, and how much weight she lost Oprah, seems imtimidated! She keeps saying, she is Black. Not mixed, not Biracial. She was Miss America. She passed for White. Yet the Black looking people to day force, Biracial and mixed on you. They don't want to accept it. I would accept who I am especially. If I looked the part!
I LOVE the fact that she didn't just roll into obscurity but stood tall, moved forward and, in spite of it all, became the most famous Miss America in history. This is what WINNING looks like!
@@brandy1883 and all the beautiful black woman who came b4 her Leana Horne, Dorothy Dandridge Diana Ross, ect so she could be where she is today, NOW we have beyawnce, RiRi, Mya and others who have Vanessa to thank for paving the way for light-skin chicks to have a career today.
@@dlw1221 I think you had it right, the 1st time! BLACK WOMEN! The one thing they all had in common, is that they were and are talented, with a fight, that led them to Stardom
I was 17 when she won the Miss America Pageant. I'm 56 now and she is one of the women that I have admired all these years. She never gave up. She's a fighter...stunningly beautiful and hella talented. Love her ❤️
@@jasperdilincoln2341 i mean. Sextapes don't necessarily mean they are on tape in the traditional way. Sextaping can be done on a phone and can get saved to a cloud which means it can be hacked.
She is absolutely luminous and incredibly strong! So proud (as a teacher myself) to see how well Vanessa stood up to all the negative forces against her. Maybe having her parents as educators helped a bit?! I've loved and admired your talent, beauty, and inspiration since I first heard and saw you as Miss America. Saved the Best for Last is probably my favorite song of all time. I'm SO thrilled and blessed that I got to see you perform in Hawaii! And don't even get me started on how fantastic you were as Wilhelmina Slater! Thanks for shining your light, lady!
"Save the best for last" is such a beautiful song but it was hard for me to listen to it at a certain point in my life. When it came out I was going through a lot of turmoil in my household (I was 5 yrs old), so once I was placed in a better living situation, whenever that song would come on, I'd cry. I'm now older and stronger and can say it's one of the most beautifully written and executed songs ever. I've always loved Vanessa and I still rock out to "The right stuff"! Thanks for this upload. Never saw this before. She's truly a rising Phoenix!
She’s beautiful and has an amazing personality. She has a strength that is admirable and parents that are REAL. I admire her. We all make mistakes and she handled hers gracefully.
Ha! So true! My daughter grew up in Florida and drug me to SO many N'Sync concerts. "God Must have spent a little More time on you" was surely written with Vanessa in mind!
Probably mine. My accounts get terminated periodically, then need to open new ones. Unfortunately, this channel is not getting the RU-vid algorithms, so not getting a lot of views.
Jeff Zest youtube is a hot mess these days anyway. Im tired of their antics. Anyway, it could have been your channel I’d first seen this interview on. I believe it was on my favorites list back then. Than in 2018 I was downloading her music on my iTunes and I thought about this video. Went to search for it and couldn’t find it, and had been searching ever since. Until last week. So THANK YOU for making my day! Do you have anymore Vanessa videos you can post, I love watching old interviews of hers.
Here is another: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QY-GZmaObhI.html Do a search of my channel and there are another three. I have several others, and a ton of good videos, but people cannot even find most of it by doing general search despite relevant tages. Right about RU-vid being a hot mess. Diid you find this via a general search or via related videos? Thanks.
This interview was beautiful. I miss THIS Oprah. Everything they said is exactly why I say that colorism is divisive. We ALL BLACK OUT HERE!!! I have been a fan of hers (Vanessa)since she entered the pageant, and supported everything she did/does. I was proud and felt represented. I didn't see anybody screaming when Taraji played in hidden figures and she was waaayyy darker than Mrs. Johnson. Why cause we ALL BLACK OUT HERE, IN EACH ND EVERY HUE!
She had already pretty muched Finished her Miss America Term. There was only 6weeks Left. So it didn't matter. What dethroning? No one could take that away. Great question Oprah @13:37. The main reason why the marriage didn't work out was because of the Circumstances they met. The Biggest problem was that he was more of a manager than a Husband, involved in everything and Controlled everything including the Money. They are best friends to this day; they also Co-parented well.
What a gem!..I still want RamonS perspective on being her Manager. The constant battle that must have been back in the day. Given her talent and beauty, I now completely understand Y she didn't go into Superstardom considering her stance on motherhood being her Main priority.
What do you mean she didn't go into superstardom how retarded considering she was Miss America considering she had number one hits considering she's been on Plenty movies and shows
was anyone going to tell me Vanessa Williams was the first black miss America or was i supposed to find out on a random 90s Oprah interview? 😂 i’ve always loved her. now that i know she made black history i love her even more
Complex Divinity you must be pretty young? Here is Vanessa, just a day or two after winning the crown, being interviewed on “The Today Show,” where they discuss her being the first black Miss America - 1983 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QY-GZmaObhI.html
interesting she was offered the lead role (1st) in Lee Daniel's "Monster Ball". Vanessa refused the role due to just giving birth. Halle Berry went on to win the Oscar for that role.
They tried to knock her down for the same thing Trump loves women for including his wife..but she reigns like a Queen anyway. Gogogo Vanessa! Black is strong.
