My thoughts precisely. What made her so intimidating was that she never raised her voice. She spoke more with her eyes and the terrifying pursing of her lips that could kill careers. Vanessa Williams will make the character her own, but the small subtleties that defined her from any other "boss from hell" doesn't scream Broadway at all, and when at 4:32 she muses on how fun it is to play "over the top" villains, she confirms it. Sure, Miranda Priestly is a villain, but far from "over the top."

Just as Anna Wintour loomed over Meryl Streep, Vanessa Williams has a Godzilla-sized shadow standing over her. What made Meryl Streep's Miranda so intimidating is that she spoke more with her icy stare. Her words don't matter as much as the way she purses her lips. Perhaps most importantly, _she never raised her voice._ These are traits lifted from Wintour herself. Yes, Vanessa Williams absolutely deserves the opportunity to create her own take on the character, but Miranda Priestly belting out "Rose's Turn" isn't Miranda Priestly anymore. She's Wilhelmina Slater. You can bet she knows perfectly well that if her fashionista is simply a rehash of her _Ugly Betty_ role, the critics will be savage as Miranda Preistly herself. Meryl's interpretation.
