Is 4/10 too light? Are there rounds to make up? I feel like in the home, the lighter the better as long as it does the job. My father advised the 4/10 pump (because of the intimidation of the sound) and he was a combat veteran (4 tours Vietnam) and a career policeman. I think part of his point was that a ten year old girl could defend her home with one effectively.
It all depends on which load you are using in either gauge and the weight of the gun Or so I have heard from Paul Harrel, Lucky Gunner Ammo and THEFIREARMGUY. In a home defense situation I would imagine that the adrenalin dump from the adrenal gland would give one more than enuf power to use a 12 g. for good effect. One can also tolerate the 1030 seconds of shooting time there will be as I have yet to see in any YT Video where bad guys don not flee at the sound of the first shot from a homeowner. Personally I like 12g. Turkey shot applied to the face/neck as it 1. Will poke out eyeballs 2. Put a great many holes in the wind pipe causing extreme respiratory distress 3. Slice open the Carotid Arteries on the sides of the neck leading to instant and massive blood loss to the brain. 20g. Turkey shot should do likewise.
