There was a strong connection there. Prince loved her even more than she did. Vanity loved Prince too. She waz so unique and I had not really seen someone more naturally BEAUTIFUL than her.

I carried the black and gold cane he’d given me for protection on Christmas day. When I made myself a bath I thought of the candles we’d once lit together. After my bath, I creamed my body with a silky moisturizer and dressed slowly. Sipping the champagne loosening the grip of nervousness within me. Soon enough I’d see his face and he’d be staring into my eyes. They were thickly lashed with a tease of color and face softly shaped oval. My lipstick was corvette red and succulent rose with a slide of lip gloss. I slipped my high heels on and I was ready! I called downstairs for the bellman and asked for my stretched limousine to be pulled around to the front. I didn’t want to miss the looks that would be narrowing on my see-through gown. The thrill from the stares of the passerby’s, heading my direction. It was simple for me, I was in it for the shock value and so was Prince. That’s why they called him the rude boy and Vanity was the nasty girl. I glanced one final time in my full-length mirror, pleased with the overall look and started for the door. My limo was a sleek Cadillac black. Long shiny and smooth as I’d requested it to match my skin tight dress. When I arrived I stepped out of the car and reached for the arm that was attached to the stranger guiding me before the red carpet. Quickly I flashed back at the time I’d dreamed about as a child. caerfaimama Didn't even appear to be an embrace, looked like he let her kiss him on the cheek, a little awkward. Vanity had said in an interview that Prince watched her too closely. You know she had a major drug problem back as early as that. As much as they cared for each other, that's why they never married.

However i am sure she requested to be the one announcing their win. the encounter must have been tough for her as you can see she was at the back instead of being in the center of it all. It is well known they used to have many fights and he himself said that he told her he would throw her in the pool if she didn’t stop fighting with him and when she dared him to do so he asked Big Chick to do it which he eventually did. So meeting Big Chick must be awkward as well.
Why do people think he was heartbroken here? A lot of times artists can perform but they are still shy and don’t really like public speaking. He was probably just humbled by receiving the award and a little nervous about speaking, especially with all the people shouting “Prince I love you!“ I’m sure that can be a little overwhelming. They both were very seductive and I’m sure they were a special part of each other‘s lives, so her presence was probably a small factor, but I don’t think his mannerisms and tone was totally about her. Prince and Vanity worked on the script of Purple Rain together...and she left him for Motown Records ...because he only wanted to give her $5000 for starring in Purple Rain.(I believe he offered her so little was because he did not want to give her a lot of money which would end up going on her drug habit! THAT IS SO OBVIOUS!!!)...ANYWAY..Prince appears overly sober and serious(notice that he isn't smiling) ....because he is saddened that she left him and that she was supposed to be enjoying and sharing that award with him...not just presenting it! He cut the Purple Rain tour short....because he had a "mental breakdown" ....and it was over losing her.The whole soundtrack of The movie Purple Rain was about her.The song "when Doves cry" was about their breakup! Little Red Corvette was about her too! And in the song Darling Nicki...he screeched..."come back Nicky come back ! /your dirty little Prince wanna grind,grind grind,grind!....he said "come back" because SHE LEFT HIM! In 1987...a few years after this award show...he sent her flowers and a card that said"drop him.Come back".She was with Nicki Sixx from the hair metal group "Motley crue"...he found out and beat or hit her...and left her.Both him and Vanity were heavy into drugs,go figure.PRINCE LOVED HER AND TRIED TO SAVE HER! Yes prince did do drugs autopsy found fentanyl in his body a very strong drug.. which is 30 times stronger than heroin.. which was the cause of his death on 4-21-16
Prince was not doing drugs in the 1980's and 1990's. He got addicted to pain medicine in the 2000's. And those flowers and note you said he sent to Vanity never happened. I read Nikki Sixx biography "The Heroin Diaries". He talks about his relationship with Vanity and he talks about how when he went to pick her up for a date that there were flowers on the table. He read the note. I can't remember word for word what was in the note and I don't feel like looking for the book right now, but what was written made him think that Prince wanted Vanity to leave Nikki for him. Nikki was so mad, lol. But Vanity sister Patricia Matthews was there and told Nikki the truth. Vanity had the flowers sent to herself and wrote the note, LOL!!! She did it to make Nikki jealous, LOL!!! Denise Matthews contributed to the book so she knew this was going to be in it.

Prince didn't ever want to pay anybody. Nobody lived well in his shadow or in his employ. Do you know how much Morris Day got for Purple Rain? Tragic and disgusting. He used Vanity's shared life story and stiffed her and it wasn't to save her from the drugs he might have even started her to using in the business.
The " 1999 " album was waaaay ahead of it's time. Far more original then any of the albums release at that time. Anyway " The Grammy Awards" are still to this day play it very safe in their Grammy nominations and awards. Just like" The Academy Awards" and" The Billboard Music Awards". These awards shows are always behind the times and have to play catch-up. If they were truly based on originality and uniqueness then Prince's song" When Doves Cry " would have won "Song Of The Year "and "Record Of The Year" in 1985.
He should have Thanked her! For the inspiration at least. I love prince as the singer, but as the person he made it questionable in my mind . Heartbroken for this relationship because I truly believe they were meant to be.
Nothing beats thriller back then. You had to be living at that time to truly know that. I was only 9 years old ,but I definitely remember that time . Michael and Prince, legends. Rip vanity Prince , and Michael , you are missed .
Drugs have taken too many great ones. I made a vow to my dad as a little girl to never do drugs and I'm 53 and never have. I am so glad I did that. Happy and healthy and reborn and God is good.
Prince was probably murdered. Back then he was vehemently against drugs. I'm not saying that he couldn't have become addicted but I still think they offed him and Tom Petty to get their catalogs selling.

@@jennyn5692 Denise had a phone ministry for yrs. She ministered to me for 18 months. We didn't talk about her being Vanity. She just said she was very wild, and I said it happened, and it was over with. Majority of the time she was ministering to me.

I think that most you should know,is that Prince died 2 months after Vanity passed.I always believed that Prince committed suicide,hoping to be with Vanity again.
