After a long and comfortable stay in an apartment, I’ve finally moved back into my van full-time, and I’m kinda unsure how I feel about it. In truth the last time I was actually living in my van full time was probably back during the height of COVID… at which point I remember being VERY much over it. Anyway, ready or not, I’m back in the van full time, and hitting the road to Colorado.

You should really use tubing that is labelled as food safe. It's usually sold for use in caravans and motor homes (I think you call them RV's in the US). That tubing might be ok, hard to tell. I think California law pretty much means everything has that warning on it making the warnings less than useful.

I work in a place that builds powered Wheelchairs. We have to put Cancer warning labels on all of them going to California. Apparently, California is the only place in the world where you could get cancer from a Wheelchair. 🤨

yep even whey protein supplements have a prop 65 warning. It means nothing now.
@DevinShillingtonSkateboarding
California law actually says that you need to prove that your product does not cause cancer, or you need to put the label on it. In most cases it's cheaper to just put the label on it than it is to prove it doesn't cause cancer.

before mounting any adhesive stuff (the plant box and the wire conduit), use some 91% rubbing alcohol to clean the surfaces first. Just wet paper towel with the alcohol and clean the areas first. You'll be amazed at the grime on the paper towel. It'll dry in 1-2 minutes, then do the adhesive stuff. Maybe you were doing that off camera, but it's a very important step so the adhesive doesn't work loose later.

Coming from a chemist.. Prop 65 warnings are for chronic exposure/long term toxicity. So the longer you use it for consumption the higher your risk is for chronic toxicity. Exposure also increases with temperature and duration of exposure/extraction to the liquid you plan to consume. The hotter the water and the longer the tubing is exposed to the water, the more it will extract from the polymer tubing. So.. the longer it sits in the container in water, the more you will extract into the container to then consume. Use the food grade materials. They are more expensive and difficult to find but at least you are doing your best to reduce your exposure especially if you have a genetic predisposition to cancer

Appreciate your honesty about van-life. I have been thinking about doing it once I have paid off the mortgage and I have enough money saved for a van. I see loads of videos showing the best parts of that life but not the honest depictions of bad days and the struggles that people face everyday in living in their van. I hope you get back the buzz that you once had and start enjoying it again. Would be good to see a video about some of the negative aspects so people like me know what we're getting into.

Everybody knows a truck driver, don't they? Ask a long haul trucker what life is like living on the road in a vehicle. Like anything at first it is new and exciting as you find your way, after a few months you have your routine, you'll know soon enough if it is for you. I drove long haul for many years and on down days when it was raining or snowing movie theaters were a nice outlet but that gets old quick. If you are in a rest area somewhere in a rainstorm can you keep yourself entertained beyond a digital screen?

HOW TO GET ON A PROMASTER WITHOUT A LADDER. I have the same year and model promaster as you and no ladder. My bed is in a similar location as yours. Open the back door step on the bumper , then on the bottom hinge (the way the hinges are made there is a big enough gap between the door and the hinge to put your foot as long as you dont open the door ALL the way), then step on your bed then on the top hinge, grab the roof rack and put and knee on the roof. Its not ideal but its the best way that i have found and looks easer/safer than using the front door. You can thank me latter

good to see you back on the road man. FYI, for the hose going into your grey water tank. I think you want to have a small s-curve in it, so that it "traps" some water at lowest part of the curve. This will prevent any bad smells from coming back up into your van through the drain. Just make sure the curve is low enough, so that water still drains out of your sink ok. Residential plumbing uses the same concept. Edit: Also wanted to say, your video editing skills have come a LONG way since you started the channel. Your videos are next level quality now, I really enjoy them!

The pipe warning probably isn't something you need to really worry about but it would be a good idea to get a water purifier. I ran into the same type of issue when I was looking to buy a large tank of CO2 for my home soda maker. Turns out industrial grade CO2 comes with trace amounts of oil and lubricants, I had to buy 'Food Grade CO2' which didn't have all that extra stuff in it.

You should get one of those ramped cord protectors that are meant for the ground instead of that one you bought which is for visually hiding cords on the wall rather than foot traffic over them. You can even get some double sided tape if you want to also secure it to the ground, but it's probably unnecessary. If I had that big square one I'd definitely end up kicking it and ruining it within a week. lol.

That warning goes on most everything plastic. You probably have nothing to worry about, just don't get the tube all melty, that's when it will start releasing those toxins. If it isn't bpa free you might want to replace it sooner tho as that stuff can start to break down from fairly normal use over time and isn't exactly great for your health.

Hi Alex free advice. DITCH the Mr Buddy heater ASAP. Give it away if you have to, but do not use it in your van. EVER . Catalytic heaters produce loads of moisture. This can destroy your ceiling and wall insulation. As the moisture goes through the wall and ceiling finish material it will condense in the cold zone. Misery is in your future if you put too much moisture in the walls and ceiling. The best solution is to get a vented heater like a Webasto or Espar. Gas or diesel. Or a Chinese diesel nock off. About $150 to $200 compared to $1500 for an Espar or Webasto. There are some midrange gas heaters on the market for about $800. Planar is one brand. You have a gas engine Promaster so a diesel heater would require a special diesel fuel tank that comes with the Chinese heaters. Do not get an Olypian Wave cat heater same problem as Mr. Buddy. Have a great day. Tom in eastern Canada.
