I had my first vans when I was 7-8 and I thought it was some lame shoe until it got too small on my feet and that happend when I got interested in the shoe 😢 but then I got adidas shoes and then vans again, I got the high sk8 white flame checkers

Man, I still remember some class mates in school taking out the almost hand printed Vans catalogue where you could custom order your pair. To me that seemed absolutely crazy back then. Hardly anyone knew of Vans back then here in Germany, that was in the early to mid 80s. Of course those kids were into punk rock and skateboarding and had a mystic aura around them.... good times

Vans are awesome. I got my first pair in summer of 1997 along with a pair of Airwalks which, believe it or not, were just as popular as Vans back then. However Airwalk fell off and ended up at Payless eventually. I'm glad Vans hasn't met the same fate.

dannggg man this is such a good video. Love the history, story telling, production quality, knowledge dropped. I don't wear vans as much anymore but I used to almost exclusively where vans checkerboard slip-ons in all different colors during my sophomore to senior year in college when they retailed for 34 dollars. I've also heard that at the beginning Vans was making custom sneakers, and you could have your own custom model by just placing an order at their store and later you will come to pick em up

I had to search your channel to see this video. My bell has *been* on though. Anyway I'd take any low-cut Vans shoe with the padded ankle collar, it makes for a good addition to an extremely comfortable shoe. After such a long time I wonder why they haven't thought of adapting the overall design to formal shoes for those in the corporate world.

As the nefew of James van doren I can agree with the contents contained within. I grew up hanging out at the Anaheim, CA. Factory,. At 10 I was the original bargin truck seller at the swap meet at my 13 I worked in the warehouse. I handed out bargin truck fliers with Steve van doren, worked the fairs and even visited Nana vans at Paul van dorens house. Oh need verification there was a Nana vans sub shop behind the Costa Mesa store on harbor blvd. Steve made subs there. At the long beach boat show there was a vans booth , Steve and my father got their picture taken with John Wayne. Yeah those were good times,. Now vans are made in Argentina. Um um no thank you.

For dudes, from my generation, Vans were synonymous with Spiccoli, from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Only skaters, and weirdos rocked Vans. How did Hip-Hop cats, started rocking Vans, in recent years, is an enigma to me.

Used to buy them in the 70's at the store in Garden Grove, California (Euclid St. & Chapman Ave). They only had three styles but you could customize the toe, mid section and heel different colors. I just bought a pair of navy blue Trujillos. They look sweet, but I don't think they will hold up as well as the original Skate Hi. Too bad they're made overseas now.

A long time ago, I bought my first of a long line of vans I bought. Cant remember the name of that pair of vans. They where blue, and had a stretch thing inside that stretched when u put them on. Stayed tight around the ankle. They where great. Pushing 59 so I have owned some, "VANS". If you could help me figure out the name, be greatly appreciated! Thankx
