It's an patrol vessel, a frigate is a totally different beast. OPV stands for Offshore patrol vessels, and when you operate offshore and do support over big ares, you want your patrol vessel to be big, so it can travel safe and comfortable

Excuse me I don't understand the meaning of what you write in this clip. 16 aft VLS are described as surface-to-surface missiles (not to-air) it is an alternative solution to what we see later in the video as anti-ship missiles? SeaRam is indicated as 2x, cause there is only one shown, one of those SeaRam mount would replace the VLS? Sorry to bother you but it's an official site, if something is wrong must be corrected or video retired. Vard as Fincantieri Company have capability to implement any client request up to anti ballistic missile and a good size for seakeeping is ok, but this ship resembles more an "angry" corvette then an OPV aside eventually public low profile choice. I believe your suggestion for a 76mm gun as offensive/defendive weapon along with longest possible time on mission (ideally 24/365) is the best value for money solution. We have always to remember OPV are peace time ships economical in use with no relevance at war, just not exposed to all treats and intimidating to whom will stand in front in other then war times as much as a problem like iranian fast boats are in peace waiting to be obliterated as war begin. The search of perfect ship will bring billion of expenses and get the same result, "the warship", nowadays a Destroyer !!!
The video is correct!! from for to aft: - 76mm naval gun (can also be used as part of the close in weapon system "CIWS") - aft of 76m gun, VLS for AAW missiles but can also carry surface to surface missiles. In this setup this ship have it is used for surface to surface missiles (ASuW), some can be either for attacking other ships or land targets, in this video it is most likely for land targets, due to the role the ship is intended for. - on the portside of the VLS is the first 12.7mm machine gun - mid section have container space and modular space - aft of the aft funnel, you have launcher for up to 8 cell with ASuW missiles (in this case NSM-missiles) (it is sort of an VLS) - aft of that again you have the SeaRAM - on starboard side nest to the SeaRAM you have the second 12.7mm machine gun. For example Norway, operate OPV's that is 136,4 meter long. Bigger then Norwegian frigates. Both Japan and China have OPV's that are bigger then 140 meters even some close to 160 meters. And when it come to armament, Norway's OPV's are build to be uparmed, for example the previous class of Nordkapp class could be uparmed to same level as that time's frigates and act as command vessels.
@@heuhen this video is not correct I politely noticing no one mention surface to air missile in VLS, nor combat system and radars for. It's funny on OPV speaking about land attack. In the clip are written specifications that are not all options as it seems, but are alternative to other options and can not be fitted all together without explaing it, as I noted and you still have to explain why they do it "correctly". Your fancy and crazy expensive OPV as soon as it reach 18 years age will live to joint US Navy to become an A. Burke destroyer as proper warship and will punch you in the face if you try again to call it OPV... with all those weapons on board it recall to me the norvegian Frigates Fridtjof Nansen not properly cheap peace time ships... ..."but this one is smaller" and we all know iron is the most expensive part of a ship 😁
