'Vasanthi' by the Anirudh Varma Collective, live at the 2nd album launch concert 'Homecoming' at Kamani Auditorium on 2nd April, 2022. Based on the rare Carnatic Raga 'Vasanthi' (Bhupeshwari or Bhoopkali in Hindustani Classical), this was an unrehearsed and impromptu performance. We decided not to write an arrangement for this, and instead feed off each other's energy and hear what comes of it!

I remember somewhere reading every raag is associated with an element of nature. I don't know if it's correct or not. But listening to this beautiful rendition while watching the early rays of sunrise from a melancholy hostel roof at 4.45 am, it hits very different.

@@kals58049 i got to know it from my elder sister who’s around 10 years older than me. friends and families are instrumental in invoking influence within ourselves. and the trick is to listen to a composition repeatedly to understand the nuances hidden in each layer of musicality. at first, it may seem boring for a child, but then the repetition allows one to go deeper than what appears. a song. hope i’m able to answer your question!

I've trained in Hindustani classical music for some years now so that's how I developed interest.. plus my parents have also liked playing classical/semi classical forms of music like thumri ghazal at home so that helped me and my younger brother develop a likeness for this music i guess. Parents should definitely introduce their children to these rich, traditional artforms. 🤍

Wonderfully sung by Saumya ji and played well by accompanying artists. Malavuni tak Deep by Lataji or Aziz Naza’s famous Qawwali “Hue Naam Al, Be nishan Kaise Kaise AKA Chadhta Sooraj or Mehdi Hasan ji’s Abke Hum Bhichude etc all are based on same Raga.. Carnatic musicians underline the beauty of it remarkably. Jai Ho.

Naman to Bhartiya Raagas given by our ancestors to us. The soul of such rendition lies in them. They said they got it from the gods themselves and saw singing them as a tribute to Paramatma. These rendition are excellent without any lyrics in any language. Thats the beauty of Raagas. 🙏

It's been a month since I stumbled upon this gem and I'm still listening to this in a loop. 9 mts is such a perfect length that every time it ends, it leaves me longing for more ❤ Sowmya's amazingly unique voice, Abhay's finger magic on the guitar and the most underrated perhaps is the perfect amount of keyboard. This performance is simply superb. What a creativity !!! The entire rendition is just like a river flowing with all it's grace, grandeur and gaity. People need to come out of the hub-hub of their daily routine and enjoy such renditions. It tranquilizes the minds and rejuvenates the entire system. A big salute to the entire team.
