I just turned 40, and sadly the older you get the more you look to the past. The past never loses its lustre, while the future always looks a little dimmer. This song will always send me back to my youth with a punch to the gut
I just turned 44 .. once you've seen behind the scenes at the puppet show you can't unsee .. but don't stop chasing the rainbow ( the one we grew up with .. not the gay one) ✌️
It sucks that we get so cynical as we get older.....this is the reality of it though. We are doomed, unless we hit the lotto, I believe our best days are likely behind us.
This song blew my 15-year old brain into another dimension when I first heard it back in 1998. Hearing it again at 40 has an even more profound effect on my entire soul (nostalgia is a hell of a catalyst for good feelings).
Same same same... also 40, also heard this in 1998. I was in a record store (remember those?) and they played this song. I was totally mesmerized, I went right up to the clerk and asked them what this song was, went back to the CDs and immediately picked it up and bought it. I've never regretted that decision.
I was 10 and they were giving this promo cd out with a book. I jammed out so hard back then but could never remember the name of the book or any of the songs/bands just a vague impression. Just figured it out and this is such a blast from the past. I still love it.
@patrickjamazarazo193 this is how I got it too. I think it was some fantasy / dragon novel, in my case. think they made a shitty tv show out of the book. Everland? ever something?
I was about 17 when I heard it, my step-dad was driving, this song came on, he looked at me and asked "WTF was that?", he said he had never heard anything quite like it
It is, and has been, one of my favorite songs of all time. Jon hits you with that wall of sound with such force that can only be described as an orgasm in the midst of an atomic blast. Eat your heart out Mr.Spector. Jon perfected your method.
The Television show ANGEL (spin off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) introduced me to this song. It’s used in a great montage of a detective scene. What a great song
Funny story. I gave a copy of the album on cd to a Tv show music producer on a flight from LA about 5 months before it was on Angel. I was also sitting next to actress Stania Katic who also got a copy lol. The producer had window seat Stania was in the middle, I was in isle seat. This is way before her role in Castle. She had just filmed a movie called Pit Fighter. Holy shit what a walk down memory lane.
My mother used to always listen to vast before she past, shes the reason why I got into this type of freaky music and when I hear this, its in remembrance of her
Whoever mixed the guitar and drums deserves a lot of the credit for this track. Just the right mix of a thick and crunchy without overwhelming the rest of the song. God bless good audio engineers.
I was working for a college radio station in Los Angeles back in the late nineties. This CD came across my desk, and I was legitimately blown away. Called up the label rep, got some extra copies and tickets to go see them at The Whiskey. Great show and I got to meet up with them in the VIP lounge after the gig. Good times.
I was given this cd by the bassist Michael Cry when we were 18! We were outside of Soil, a ol’ goth club in San Diego & he was so excited about his new band!! And they’ll always have muh LOVE!!
I haven't listened to Vast in years. I dated a girl for 3 years and this band was what we originally talked out. After we broke up I put Vast out of my mind and just forgot about them. I've deprived myself of an amazing band for too long. Tomorrow I'm digging out all my CD's and listening to them back to back to back. Holy shit they're good.
@r33mote No you can't honestly believe that. The number of better bands were worth it. Yeah some of those were shit but look at Alice in Chains, Tool, Smashing pumpkins, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Rage against the machine, Snoop Dog, Tupac, Biggie. What the fuck does modern music have? Mumble Rap? The same generic shit rappers who are nothing like Tupac or biggie. The same diarrhea cranked out alternative bands who have nothing to say. Nothing rock related comes close to any 90s bands except for 10 years and a couple others.
I'm here because I was in my 20's for the 90's and I loved a crazy, wonderful, tragic woman. We listened to this a lot. Still brings back the feel of crushed velvet and the smell of incense.
I haven’t heard of them either. I watched Angel I think and I found this song. Also they have a great song “don’t take your love away from me” Which I found on my own but it was in one three hill
@@lovehatedie That's Freaky ! I got a free Angel Album for getting to the Radio Station before they were gone ! That was about 45 years ago. (I'm 64 now)
The vocals are so Bulgarian it is awesome and they include the sipsi flute so it has a Turkish touch too, but this kind of music is beautiful, the mix between Baltic and Anatolian music makes it so beautiful
This song is a masterpiece not only for the text but because of the magical Bulgarian voices in the background. We, bulgarians can make very beautiful things like this. I remember watching Zena,The princess warrior, that was the first time I've heard bulgarian folklore song and now this... I'm very happy!
This is one of those songs that I'll set the resolution to the lowest at 144p and right click to loop and just continue doing what I was doing with other things just to feel a bunch. This song emanates a sort of obsession, wickedness, the ambient noises really fill the smaller spaces in a unique way right alongside the intense and up front drums; This song is a trip, like a trance and I love that in a song. Makes me imagine blurring a camera to accentuate a mind's rearing focus outwards from the world and inwards towards the sense, yet at the same time completely engaged and immersed into someone and the memory of such knowing that it's been broken without repair.
@@autentyk5735 A great question for a random and arbitrary seeming detail, simply that it's the least bandwidth to play on loop; Won't stall other tabs or activities and in most cases you'll find that the selection of pixels doesn't affect sound quality - there are a few that do increase the sample rate for certain songs. That being harder to distinguish as you move up from 144, 240, 360, 480 and above. If you want to imagine it properly, think 8 bit sounds with that chip sound and move up. Very similar to that pattern, going higher quality into synths the higher you go.
this is the song that drove me to buy this whole album. and what an epic album, too.....I think it was back in '99. when I first heard this song, I was in a tanning bed. how funny....but I couldn't get this song out of my head,,,so I went to tower records that same night,,,and sang the song to the store clerk.! thank god they knew who the band was,,,i played the shit out of that whole cd for years to follow...& well, the rest was history.
Touched You say that I am too So much of what you say is true I'll never find someone quite like you again I'll never find someone quite like you, like you The razors and the dying roses Plead I don't leave you alone The demi-gods and hungry ghosts God, god knows I'm not at home I'll never find someone quite like you again I'll never find someone quite like you again I, I looked into your eyes and saw A world that does not exist I looked into your eyes And saw a world I wish I was in I'll never find someone quite as touched as you I'll never love someone quite the way that I loved you
I saw them at Lupos in Providence RI with Orgy, Disturbed, and Linkin Park and VAST was by far the best set. God this album still gives me shivers down my spine.
"Everworld" was what brought me here. A promotional CD for the books was sold at Barnes & Noble back in 1999 and this song was the first track on it. The lyrics actually fit pretty well with the story.
as much as I like the Angel theme song as it is, imagine how badass it would be if this song was the Angel theme? They used Touched in a lot of promo ads for Angel when the show first came out, and of course, in the soundtrack for episode 2
alice There is a resemblance in their voices actually. Man, I miss watching Angel for the first time. And that was only last year for me. Watched ‘em on DVDs
I discovered VAST through this song way back during season 1 of Angel (probably 2000 or 2001 when I watched the season). I'm unable to find a video clip of the scene it was used in but it was very effective. Season 1, episode 2, "Lonely Hearts." Not only was it used effectively, but it was used in an episode that really made the show stand apart from Buffy as a series. I've been big fan of VAST ever since!
@@Master_of_Letters Although i prefer Angel, it isn`t the better the overrall TV-show Buffy is one of the 50 greatest shows ever Angel is just one of many very good shows.
I’m here from Angel too. Discovered this song on my first rewatch. I love the music in Season 1. While I don’t think Buffy had a low point like Season 4 of Angel, I will always personally prefer Angel, just because of how it affected me when I first watched it. That finale, man
Funny how years can pass... and a scent, a fleeting sound or sight can bring back a memory. such vivid memories. This is that for me right now. Happy New Year to all of you!
This song touches me in a way that I simply can't explain (and no, pun is not intended). The lyrics, the background vocals, the etherial sound of the whole thing. I've listened to this song for a rather long time now, and I always enjoy it just as much as the first time. It's hard to decide between Somewhere Else To Be, Nile's Edge and Touched when it comes to favorites.
@Justin MC no it was a DVD this was like 2k5 or 2k6 I specifically remember Bam was one of the skaters Featured like right around the first build up of the song.
@@zaynemoncrieff2008 According to them, Touched is his unused ROH theme. They are wrong. Watch evolution of AJ Styles's theme video by Megalouis 100. It says Touched is AJ's NWA theme.
Surely this is one of the most epic, moving, phenomenal, emotional, aggressive love/hate songs of all time? It's impossible for me to listen to this song without crying. A travesty that Jon Crosby wasn't recognised as one of the greats; writing the songs, singing, arranging, playing all the instruments... A sort of angst-ridden Mike Oldfield. Awesome stuff. And for the best love song you've maybe never heard of: Blue Öyster Cult "I love the night".
I‘m here because of Mazarini & Paradox. Loved this song when I was younger and come back frequently. It’s still on my iTunes most favorite songs list. Thanks for this masterpiece.
I'm very upset this was around int he 90's and I never hear it on the radio. I'm very glad I found this gem later in life and will have it on repeat indefinitely.
Touched, You say that I am too, So much, Of what you say is true, I'll never find someone quite like you, Again, I'll never find someone quite like you, Like You, The razors and the dying roses, Plead I don't leave you alone, The demi-gods and hungry ghosts, God, god knows I'm not at home, I'll never find someone quite like you, Again, I'll never find someone quite like you, Again, I looked into your eyes and Saw a world that does not exist, I looked into your eyes and, Saw a world I wish I was in, I'll never find someone quite as touched as you I'll never love someone quite the way that I loved you.
Just found this again after I forgot the name of the song. I am a fan of all genres of music. This is one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard. Beautiful.
@@stely_official If you're not sure of the word, phenomenal = amazing or extraordinary. If you just don't agree, that's cool, each to their own but I think it's in my top 10 albums of all time.
@@RS43210he's referring to AJ Styles, a pro wrestler who used a remix of this song called Demigods when he would show up in the promotion Ring Of Honor. He also used it in other places but ROH was where he used it most
From 2m26s you hear the heartbeat of the song, it's where the anaepest (.../...) turns dactyl)(.. /..) and lowers the song slowly to an emotional rhythm. In the Laird Hamilton videography 'Black Wednesday' it's a perfect marriage of visuals and audio save the 28Hz max which rape the viewer of an extra - 6Hz. This is where I had the epiphany of building my own 22Hz Subwoofer and mosfet. The couch now vibrates to this NOW magnificent peice.
@@springrain9438 I've no idea why my previous reply did not show at all, but the Bulgarian song which fragments are used is called Пиленце пее (probably because written with Latin letters contains a word that's been filtered)
@@xor_r0just came back and the first reply is there! I'm going to be introducing my son to this song and I know he'll love the extra detail you shared so thanks! Also, I imagine the rest of their music is probably pretty good too.
It was played through one of the trailers, but then doesn't appear in the film itself, for some reason. But that trailer was epic, because of this song.
@@CurlyFromTheSwirly it wasn't his fault the show got cancelled, it's only natural to end a season on a cliff hanger they had planed out the next season. it was even more insulting to the fans who were there from Buffy's season 1 who had invested a lot of time watching the show from back then.
@@MephProduction, I don't understand what you are saying. How is it not his fault but also not fair to invested viewers? It's total his fault cause... A, he knew the WB wanted to cancel his show a year before, he should have expected it to happen again. (That being said, the ratings were up and chances of cancelation were less.) B, Joss actually pressured the network into an early renewal. But the then president Jordan Levin didn't want to make an early decision, and Joss nagging him made Levin decide to cancel it. I understand wanting to know where you stand, but Joss could have done it better. "I need to know now" vs "Hey dude no pressure, but I really would like to know where we stand as soon as possible so that if you decide to end the show I can give the fans the best ending I can" But Whedon didn't show much concern for that stuff. Certainly not for the fans. He didn't change anything that happened on the last episode...except deciding to kill 2 characters. (Lindsey was supposed to become a regular member, and Wesley got the scapegoat role of failing his mission.) That episode was good, but should have been a 2 part episode. There were no big screen or telemovies to conclude....cause Whedon doesn't care. It's mostly his fault. He's the boss, it's his responsibility! Buffy was his 1st child, who he was proud of. Firefly was the youngest who got cuddled. Angel is the middle child who got ignored.
@@CurlyFromTheSwirly at the end if the day he had no control over it, he didn't decide if the show would be canceled or continued, clearly they expected it to return. No different than other tv shows that get canceled half way though it's not the creators fault the networks shut it down, hence they continued the story on graphic form instead.
