My parents were huge Kennedy fans and had this album, and we listened to it and laughed at it over and over many times. All in good fun, not in meanness at all . Then after that terrible day in 1963 in Dallas my mother put it forever away, it was horrifying to even look at the cover, to think we had once joked about them. I was only 10 but I remember that day as clear as yesterday. My parents cried. It's hard to believe we were ever that innocent.

My 7th grade teacher brought it to school and played the whole thing in class. I can still see him laughing throughout (the class didn't get many of the political references that the humor depended on).

I know exactly what you're trying to say, but for myself at least, I wouldn't use the word innocent. I've thought long about a brief and apt description of American society in those times. To me it was a time of great consideration and thoughtfulness and energy; energy focused in mostly positive directions. The high level that they discussed even simple and mundane things is evident in these programs, along with an admirable level of courtesy. These were truly different times. And when I say considerate and thoughtful, I mean them less in the sense of being nice and overly agreeable, and more in the fashion of being judicious, deliberative and self-disciplined in thought. Mindful might be as close a summary as one word could be. Thank you for posting your very personal and evocative comment.

John F. Kennedy and Vaughn Meader both signed The First Family album back in 1963. However, it wasn't easy. I'm from Maine and Vaughn was in Waterville when Dad met him. Vaughn signed it first. Getting Kennedy to sign it wasn't so easy but it was arranged thanks to the Boston Police. Still have it in my collection and I will treasure it forever

I listen to a podcast called Mobituaries with Mo Roca and last month they had an episode where he tells the story of Vaughn Meader (JFK). Anyway, today I found at a Salvation Army this record. I'm an 80's baby but I think this album it's pretty funny yet sad. It represents what Camelot was, a snapshot in American history when for a little while it seemed that things where going to be better. Then Dallas happened. This is a great album to have if you're a history buff like me.

Both great and horrible memories all in one. I was two months shy of my tenth birthday when JFK was murdered. What a miserable unforgettable Friday that was. I remember asking my mother to put this lp on a week or so after and she just shook her head and said "its too soon" and I never asked again.

An immortal memory when I used to own and listen to this recording. After numerous White House butlers relay that the Malaysian Ambassador has arrived in the building, the President's daughter transmits the message, Caroline: "Daddy, it's the Malaysian Ambassador for dinner!" Man oh man....I'm 60 yet I remember my mother listening to this on our big, wooden stereophonic turntable with the AM/FM built in radio. Naturally if you know nothing about the Kennedy Administration it's pointless to listen to. But it ranks with David Frye and his Nixon albums. But poor Vaughn Meader. When Kennedy was assassinated so what Meader's career. Lenny Bruce came on stage on the night of November 22, 1963 and said "Boy...Vaughn Meader is fucked". How right he was.

@314a1011 I have been reading your comments and you are only 4 years older then me, you do not like President Trump. You are still hanging on to the Russian conspiracy (Steele dossier), witch has been shown to have been payed for by Hillary Clinton and even the then President Obama new about this! As to the Democrats 'PULLING CRAP' are you talking about how the Democratic Mayors and Governors allowed their cities to BURN, RIOTS and LOOTING....or are you talking about the vote rigging, fraud, deception that was perpetrated during the election on November 3 that carried on into the 4th of the same month. As to President Trump being a 'wuss' and having a thin skin....The President is a 'NEW YORKER' a developer and you have to have a 'THICK SKIN' to put up with the crap in either of those jobs. So what is your opinion of Joe (Manchurian Candidate) Biden and his 47 years in politics of doing nothing. Also, George Soros and his meddling (pouring money into the Democratic coffers) in the USA elections on both a state and federal level, witch you are trying to blame President Trump for?

I was 5 years old, my brother was 4 and my first sister was 2 and still in her crib in the middle of the living room that morning about 7 or 8 feet from here. I never got a copy of the 2nd album until about 15 or 20 years ago. I must have 5 copies of the first, now! It was a HUGE seller back then!! I'm told the second one hardly sold at all because it was released very shortly before he was murdered and people just didn't want to laugh at him or make fun of him anymore because they thought it was in bad taste so, they never bought the second one. I've only ever seen 2 copies, the first was back in the mid `70's and I just couldn't afford to grab it.

I love how Vaughn always speaks serenely when he has a scene with Naomi. I think it shows how JFK and Jackie really did love each other.

So true, and Jackie O was stylish and a 60s icon. Too bad she had a tough life with plenty of sadness along the way. Ps, Groovy profile pic ;)

As a sheltered southern child, I had never heard northern accents. I listened to this album for hours and hours, laughing about their accents.

Host: Wasn't that the president? Jackie: Yes it was! Host: He seems lovely. Jackie: Yes he does. We decided to keep him exactly the way he was originally... Could not control myself afterwards!

Foley artists are the unsung heroes of audio recording. Once upon a time, humor was classy. Glad to stop and listen to this treasure.

My family had this record and I remember listening to it even after Kennedy's assassination. It's still funny after all these years, and some of the jokes that eluded me as a 6-year-old make perfect sense now.

In 1963 this was the best selling album in history until surpassed by The Sound of Music five years later.

Castro and his entourage were cooking live chickens in their hotel. Using trash cans and throwing the entrails and feathers into the toilets, clogging them totally up. That was history!

@Malcolm Fuller Yeah... Can you just imagine Trump and how he'd handle the Cuban Missile Crisis? We would go simultaneous, as the air becomes Uranius... we would all go up in mushroom clouds.

Thanks for uploading this! As an aside, my wife and I were in Cuba a couple of years ago, sitting in a cafe in Havana, getting ready to order Lunch. I had to stifle an urge to order a Cheeken Sandwich with a live Cheeken.

My Grandparents had this album. I listened to it around age 7. What’s great is to grow up and then finally understand the politics….like in Economy Lunch! Brilliant. Castro says JFK’s ask not quote, but in Spanish. There’s so much gold in that lunch.

My dad was a record distributor in Chicago in 1962. They never sold more albums by one performer than this album in a 48 hour period. And that includes "The King".

I'm glad I lived at this time and felt the joy and humor JFK brought to the people of our country. This record was so brilliant and captured JFK's own style of Irish humor itself. These were great days....before the darkness that took him away and that lives today....out in the open......to threaten a different President who wants great things for our nation.

i was 7 yrs old and use to be able to recite this word for word to my family and classmates. I , like most everyone, remember exactly where and what I was doing when hearing the news from Dallas. And to believe those that know what "really" happened that day . Allowed us all to grieve for our country and his poor children.
