He had a kind of low level menace in that role but was portrayed as crafty and cunning. So few villians seem to show that intelligence in fantasy movies anymore.

I think that part was what sealed his role as Doctor Who. In between work, he was a labourer and the other trades would wind him up, calling him, Olivier.

I adore Tom Baker. Great actor and has a larger than life quirky personality. He was born to play "The Doctor". Still the best. I would say that the 4th Doctor is one of the greatest tv characters of all-time.

I lived in the same village in Kent (south east of London) as Tom Baker. One Christmas Eve night he read A Christmas Carol by Dickens in the church, front to back. No charge or anything. It was great. He was very tall and had a booming deep, expressive voice - a big presence. He also used to come in the pub and buy a round for everyone.

This is honestly my second favourite anthology other than ‘The House That Dripped Blood’. I just think the variety of stories are fun and interesting. The Tom Baker segment is probably my favourite, I thought he did a great job of creating a compelling character.

I'm with you, this is a rare case where I completely disagree with Daniel, I think the Tom Baker segment totally works. I find this film to be the moost underrated by most reviewers who have it quite low but I have it 3rd behind 'The House that Dripped Blood' and 'Tales from the Crypt'.

To build on my Tom Baker/Doctor Who comment, some of his stories are horror based, and lots of reviewers comment on hos some of them are very Hammer horror like. Pyramids of Mars, The Brain of Morbius, Image of the Fendahl, Horror of Fang Rock, and Seeds of Doom are all very much sci-fi horror, and then you have The Ark in Space, which is basically Alien!

"Drawn and Quartered" is my favorite segment in this. I was expecting the artist to accidentally suffocate himself, so I was definitely surprised by the ending. I also liked the first segment with Daniel Massey (although the DVD version I have ends on a freeze frame, as I recall). And no mention of who Daniel and Anna Massey's father is? I also remember liking the scene of Dawn Addams climbing the rope and disappearing. I probably prefer this movie to Torture Garden.

Big fan of all of the Amicus Horror anthologies! I’d say my biggest disappointment with Vault of Horror though, is that its ending and final shot is a letdown. There are behind the scenes images of all of the men leaving the vault and entering the graveyard…and they all have skull faces - even Tom Baker, whose skeletal face has bis beard! Real bummer to see those pics before I ever saw this movie, only to not see those makeups. 😢

Loving these videos. Making me want to go back and watch all these films again, for the umpteenth time. I belive the rope trick is just called the Indian Rope trick. But they probably don't call it that in India. I really like the vampire one. Totally agree that the teeth are terrible, but love the ending. Tom Baker is the best Dr Who. He makes that segment watchable. Think Dr Terrors house of horrors is my favourite, but think that's just because I clearly remember seeing it as a kid.

I love the first two stories, the others less so tho of course Tom Baker is great in the last one. Im fascinated with the community in the first story, with the vampires taking over after dark. I assume they take over the other businesses as well. Id love to visit a vampire supermarket, buy some nice fresh clots!!! Terry-Thomas and Glynis are fantastic in the second story. What a horrible man to make that sweet lady cry! My mother, who didnt much like horror, was roaring with laughter at the ending! I think the wrap around is the weakest in the Amicus anthologies, its interesting that theres no Crypt Keeper, no Dr. Diabolo or other host, but its still pretty weak.

I liked Vault Of Horror myself, better than some other Amicus anthologies. I thought the Tom Baker segment was very compelling, especially the last shot showing what happened to his self-portrait. And I also have to disagree with you on the best Roger Moore James Bond film. To me it has to be Live & Let Die. I'll go so far as to say it's my favorite Bond film in general, but that's just me.

According to my ratings, I gave this film a 7/10, but it has been a long time since I saw it. I'm wondering if I gave the rating based on the possibility that the film was giving the men a chance at redemption or face the horrors in real life.

This is the worst of the Amicus anthologies to me. I like the Tom Baker segment the best, with the "Bargain in Death" getting second place, but the film is a big misfire. ("Bargain in Death" is actually a rip-off of a 19th Century story by Ambrose Bierce.) A real disappointment from Roy Ward Baker. (I gather you don't like "Scars of Dracula" either, and that is easily his worst Hammer film.) Baker had an interesting, very disjointed, career. He directed the "Too Many Christmas Trees" episode of "The Avengers" (Steed & Peel), and as "Roy Baker," he directed Marilyn Monroe in "Don't Bother to Knock" in 1953 and then the best Titanic movie, "A Night to Remember" in 1958.
