NEW VAULT SESSIONS: ERIC JOHNSON!!!!!! In this episode, Eric discusses regretful guitar mods, develops his love of Esquires, plays a one-of-a-kind Stratocaster that was made for Jimi Hendrix, and shares some influential licks from Wes Montgomery, Eric Clapton, Jerry Reed, and more.
The guitars in this episode are famous in their own right- a 1966 Fender Marauder prototype, 1952 Copper Esquire, and 1969 Solid Rosewood Fender Stratocaster that was made for Jimi Hendrix (very last guitar played in the video at 6:19). The Rosewood Strat (built by Philip Kubicki) was intended for Hendrix, but he passed away prior to the guitars completion. These guitars are all on display at the Songbirds Guitar Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Thanks to our sponsors- The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, GoGo Tuners, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Video credit: Cameron M and John Dooley
WE HAVE SOME BIG SESSIONS COMING SOON: Ray Wylie Hubbard, Michelle Malone, American Aquarium, Gangstagrass, Ana Popovic, Sister Hazel, Drew Holcomb and the Moon River Music Festival Sessions, and more. Subscribe for more!

right ramjet? he just doesn't even come close to your playing. he should really take some pointers from a damn master like yourself.
@Steakfinger
@Steakfinger 5 лет назад
@@DanielBoonelight Get real. If you can't hear that he plays the same pentatonic licks over and over again then you're deaf. I'm not saying I'm better. Eric Johnson sounds great and he plays great. No disagreement. To say that he "can play something so creative!!" is incorrect. When SRV died I heard someone wonder aloud "Who knows what SRV would've gone on to do if he'd lived?" Well, I know. He'd make the same damned blues records he'd been making since the beginning, mostly in the key of E tuned down a half step. The only difference between his first record and his last was that he had a keys player at the end. Same 12 bar blues, same 5 Albert King licks. Over and freaking over again. That's what SRV did and would have continued to do. Eric Johnson is a master. I am not. He has created a very identifiable sound. His chord style is pretty unique for his style. The unique thing about his lead playing is his tone and how clean he plays. It's not WHAT he plays. How do you not hear that? Descending pentatonic minor lick ending on the root followed by the root and octave up, usually with a pinch harmonic. I'm stating a fact. I'm not taking about my playing, which you would like, BTW, if you weren't so mad about our exchange.
@DanielBoonelight
@DanielBoonelight 5 лет назад
thanks for the essay. i mostly just don't like presumption, and people who can't get enough of hearing themselves talk. looks like you've a full deck of both, so take care then.

@BrianOates

Jimi was used to the controls being above the strings and the pickups being reverse slanted gave a different sound too. It would make more sense for them to give him what he was used to: a flipped over and restrung rightie is what he used.

Hendrix p!ayed bone stock off the rack right handed strats. I think the nut was modified for his left handed setup. I doubt that Fender ever made a strat for him. Clapton tells a story about finding a left handed strat for Hendrix but he died before Clapton could give it to him.

General Patzer ..have you seen the video of Clapton describing that night, how he never got the chance to give it to him and the next day Hendrix died. I think it's from early 70's...he has tears welling in his eyes while explaining it. it's heartbreaking.

hendrix played shit tons of guitars, seen him use a 3 pickup SG and by all accounts he liked using his Gibson flying V for solos in the studio, apparently that's what the little wing solo is played on

He probably may have used the Flying V on the "Dolly Dagger" solo, he reaches very high notes, impossible with a reverse strat.

You guys are really failing to market your product! Tell us about these guitars that are being played in the Vault Sessions. Tell a story. Need a better sound too! You didn't include any info at all about the Hendrix Strat. Regardless, I will see you guys in a couple of weeks.

@@roseblack6342 Well, I can tell you how I handle it: First, I take in what the person is stating, then do my best to glean off of it anything of value and take anything constructive or positive and integrate it into my daily life, and then finish by thanking that person for caring enough to share their thoughts.
