In part 1 of this episode of the Vault Sessions the legendary Joe Bonamassa @JoeBonamassaTV shows Jeff Crusan how to turn it up to 11 by daisy chaining a 1977 Dumble Overdrive Special and a 1965 Fender Super Reverb-- a rig that only blew out one of our lights! Jeff was the winner of our Ultimate Players Experience contest where kids 18 and under could submit a video of themselves playing with the best player winning a private lesson with Joe. And, of course, an opportunity to play some very cool vintage guitars, amps, and gear.
Season 3 is packed with great players so click the subscribe button for updates.
Coming soon: Jimmy Herring, Ben McLeod, Samantha Fish, Stuart Mathis, Andy Wood (part 2), and dozens more. These sessions help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids…check out our website to find out more- songbirdsfoundation.org. Thanks to our sponsors- The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Special thanks to John Dooley for the great video work.

After 13-year-old Joe Bonamassa held his own onstage with Danny Gatton, Danny said something very similar about being "...afraid the kid was gonna take my gig," much like Joe B said at the beginning of this video. It's really great to know that he hasn't forgotten where he came from. Just one more thing to love about the guy that isn't necessarily his playing.

In high school, I loved chaining my late 70’s Gibson amp with my brothers 80’s Roland Jazz Chorus 77. I’d set up the foot switches from the Roland and play through a Crybaby and my Boss OS-2 overdrive/distortion. It was the mid 90’s, so I was playing Nirvana, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, and I was also really into Minor Threat. Plus Hendrix and the Beatles of course. That all stacked up pretty loud. It was fun.

By plugging both amps into the same outlet you can reduce the noise since they will both have the same sine wave. Even in the same location, two outlets can have different sine waves which can add to the noise floor.

To all those asking how the amps are connected, watch the beginning of the video very carefully. Joe plugged the end of one cable into one of the two inputs on the front of the Dumble. He then plugged the other end into one of the two inputs in the vibrato side of the Fender. The guitar was then plugged into the remaining vibrato input of the Fender. Done. This is not the best way to do this as the grounds of the two amps may be at different potentials even when plugged into the same outlet. The best way to do this is use an AB/Y pedal that at least has one output of the pedal transformer coupled and preferably has the option to lift the same channel's guitar ground.

So sick of hearing that. Much of what Stevie Ray played was recycled almost note for note Albert King licks. Oh except when he's covering Hendrix. I NEVER hear anyone criticizing SRV about that. Why do you suppose Joe is held to a different standard? You think its personal? BTW, I saw EJ live and after 20 minutes of those 'EJ licks' you are referring to I was bored out of my skull. All he did was shred like he was practicing complex scales with very few melodic references and never played below the 12th fret. A few people walked out after the 2nd song. I was not impressed. I was considering how to get to the parking lot early. (musician 45 years)

he isn't getting rid of that noise, he just plays way louder and the camera mic's gain is set for that louder level, making it appear as if the noise decreased. It didn't. All it takes is a decent quality isolation transformer and there'll be no noise at all, but I guess that's not "old school" enough for a guy who won't wear a mask to protect his surroundings, oh well.

@mikecamps7226
@mikecamps7226 3 года назад
on your main amp you plug in to.....which would normally be the #1 high input jack......the #2 input jack next to it gets the jumper cable plugged into it and the opposite side of that jumper cable goes over to the other amp you'd be using and plugged into the #1 high input of that amp. You effectively are splitting the signal coming out of the guitar going into the first amp as the input jacks internally are linked.....and jumping the guitar signal over to the 2nd amp. I call the initial amp the guitar is plugged in to the dominant amp and the 2nd amp is the slave amp. Because the 2nd amp can be set up to be less than the primary amp....or you can set it to try to be even......as in loudness....as you are effectively blending them. Now if you plugged into the 2nd amp in the #2 input jack, that 2nd amp will be slightly back and less aggressive than plugging into its #1 high input jack. >>>>>NOTE
@mikecamps7226
@mikecamps7226 3 года назад
You also want to note that you really don't want to split the guitar signal too many times as this will keep making the source signal smaller and not the original strength as coming out of the guitar at its body jack. You would need a special splitter box with a electronic pre-amp to be able to boost the original signal up enough to drive all the amps equally as if they were just direct guitar to amp as in one amp seeing the signal. It can be very tricky. It would be a special design pre-amp to keep the signal clean without adding anything or coloration or effect......a line booster.>>>>>> I am involved in guitar electronics and amplifiers and have custom built a distribution box for a special client as he runs 5 amps presently......I built the distribution box with 7 outlets. SO he carries around a very big stage rig beyond what a normal player would use, with 5 amplifiers.......but not marshall full stacks

Just to get it straight, that's not the best way to set up a pair of amps, especially if you have the money that joe has. He shouldn't be putting shit like that into the kids head as not everyone can afford to burn up vintage amps or any amps as far as that goes. Buy a friggin aby box for $150 and do it right. Can't use effects pedals but doesn't mind all that noise, I don't get it.

I don't understand how he daisy-chained the amps. Can someone explain?
@shawnmcvey7789
@shawnmcvey7789 4 года назад
It's like using a patch cable to jump channels on a 4 input Fender, Marshall, Vox, etc but with another amp instead of just channels.
@earthlydescent
@earthlydescent 4 года назад
He ran a cable out of the effects loop out of the Dumble into the Super Reverb's input, essentially placing the Dumble preamp in front of the Super.

Does he then plug into the input off the dumble and is this ok
@Elix1rify
@Elix1rify 3 года назад
@@earthlydescent Almost, the setup is guitars cable into supers 1st input, a cable from the supers 2nd input into the dumbles input.

I can hear guitars but not the talking. You don't have to be the best one, just be a good one. You can do better, more mics. Jeff is awesome!!! Keep on rocking

@ronfrey6639
@ronfrey6639 3 года назад
You go out from input on 100 k amp and feed into 2nd input on super and plug guitar into input 1 channel 2 of fender . that is the big mystery...
@russelmurray9268

A/B/Y box is better because you lose the ground issue with a transformer.
