I LOVE BEING A TURTLE!

I like how the Turtle designs on the thumbnail look like a mix between the 80's cartoon, the movie and even the 2012 cartoon.

This is going to be a great week.

Oh, the memories of that FHE VHS of this movie, I felt super nostalgic especially seeing that Pizza Hut commercial from said VHS in the beginning of the video. This, believe it or not, was my introduction to the TMNT. My dad gave me the first two movies on VHS and these were what made me a fan of these characters along with watching the 2003 animated series (similar to this movie it's actually more in line with the comics) and playing with the action figures based on that series. To this day, I still consider this the best Ninja Turtles movie, one of the best underrated comic book movies, and probably one of my favorite movies period. From the action, the amazing animatronics, the heart, the faithfulness to the original Eastman and Laird comics, everything. While I'm really looking forward to Mutant Mayhem in August, no matter how it turns out, who knows if it'll beat this totally bodacious film! I look forward to the rest of the videos this week to hear your thoughts on the rest of the films!

I watched this film a couple of weeks ago for the first time since seeing it in theaters in 1990 and it still holds up!

I’m really excited to see the upcoming videos. I remember watching this film at first and being a little weirded out by the costumes as this was often an issue I had with animatronics but I’ve grown accustomed to them over time.

Fun fact: the alternate ending is in the comic adaptation by Archie comics.

Splendid review! glad I was not really a ninja turtle fan growing up! (glad you mention one of Jim Henson's last projects he's worked on along with this and the 1990 adaptation of The Witches starring Angelica Huston, and sorry to say that Siskel and Ebert put this in their Worst of 1990 along with this Child's Play 2, the remake of Night of the Living Dead, Robocop 2, Ghost Dad, the Nutcracker Prince, and Jetsons the Movie!)

Well, if my comment on the Turtle Week trailer was any indication, Ninja Turtles 1990 became my first RU-vid film purchase (alongside another cult fave, the explosive Shaw Brothers classic The Super Inframan). OH MY GOD THE HYPE WAS TRUE! This movie is incredible! A practical effects tour-de-force with strong characters, excellent writing, top notch fight choreography, surprisingly deep exploration of the concept of familial bonds and the contrast between those who feel alienated by their family (The Foot) and those who embrace their bond (The Turtles, Splinter, and even April O'Neil and Casey Jones to an extent) and, of course, an execution that takes the silly premise just seriously enough to be timeless and appealing. I think I've found my second favourite comic book movie in this, and I'll happily rewatch it if I feel like it. P.S. Just for fun, is Critters really as lousy as Raphael claimed in the film?
