This is *very* inspired by the video game Caves of Qud. The names of many of the Cybernetics, psychic glimmer/gleam, and the stat change from CHA to EGO come from that game. I've been wanting a tabletop version of that game for a while now -- this is the closest thing I've seen, and very cool.
I don’t know where to find it exactly but someone does have a caves of qud adaptation to knave. It’s called “Knaves of Qud” I might be able to see if I can find it.
It gives me an 80s sci-fi fantasy feel, like the Taarna story from the Heavy Metal movie, and the mutants from Vampire Hunter D. The alzabo is straight out of Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun series.
It's so funny to me how BotNS is totally obscure in a pop-culture sense, yet creators reference it on a semi-regular basis and pretty much everyone who didn't hate reading it considers ot one of the best works of speculative fiction ever.
This is one of the best ttrpg books I have ever bought. Page after page, table after table, of some really inspiring stuff. Get it before it runs out, cause you KNOW it's gonna run out! Edit: Oh dang, the had already sold out when I posted this! Hope the do another printing, a lot more people deserve this book!
I LOOOVE science fantasy settings and this looks like a gorgeous product; getting real difficult to resist buying yet another OSR book that I don't have time to use 😭 Edit: I gave in and went to Games Omnivorous to buy it and ended up also buying Skullfungus' Isle of Ixx 😅🤣
I play and run a lot of Numenera, so this theme is appealing. The weather hex is brilliant. I don't think I've ever seen one before. I may have to pick this up, simply for all the tables and inspiration. It really looks great!
I have maybe half a dozen rulebooks like Vaarn that I will probably never get to play, but just buy because they're like tiny art projects that are fun to read. I love books like this that have interesting presentations to go along with the content.
5:28 Man, these monsters are great! I especially love the horror of the green guard; A Plastic skinned robot fighting endless Wars, like little green armymen, come to life
I still love The Principia Apocrypha under Lithyscaphe. And I really wish there was more Steven Lumpkin. From West Marches to Weird Stories... the Dude Exudes. Mr. Lumpkin, where are you? Please come back again, and again ..
This is a super cool setting book. Love all the options for players, the easy-generated content (especially the overworld focus), and the evocative art. Super cool that it's a spinoff of Knave, it must be a very satisfying feeling to see that as the creator. What are some other books like this
This sounds like a fun world to mess around in. If anything at all, the pure volume of tables will be excellent additions to my solo RPG games. I'm also getting ideas to adapt them to my Five Parsecs from Home and Kill Team campaigns. The more gonzo alien the better!
I’ve been watching this creator for a few weeks, and I’m very impressed with their work! Check out their blog, it has a lot of supplementary material to use alongside this book
@@antiantifa886 Sounds like a lot of great stuff: Dark Sun meets Fallout meets a bit of Nausicaä (the backstory with the Titans). It's so brilliant and inspired!
Because there are bleeding hearts that think using the word "race" is racist. Likely they're the same people who want to eliminate half-orcs and half-elves in D&D for the same reason. 🙄
