Good job James. I'm surprised anybody pays a garage to do this service. You've shown perfectly just how easy it is and most people should be able to do this. A good money saver if you ask me.
Just a little tip for oil filters, once you've got it fairly loose leave it in the housing to drain for a few minutes, when you come to take it out the filter will be practically dry of oil and won't drip everywhere!
I can't fault the way you carried out this service. I serviced a 2014 Astra recently and used genuine parts. The prices are on a par with good quality aftermarket ones so your local dealer is worth a try. The adjustable spanner got you out of trouble there.
Nice video, i think you forget to reset the service timer. It is very easy, with te ignition off Push and hold the button on the instrument cluster. Switch on the ignition, and keep the button pushed until stipes appear on the display for the Miles. Release the button and youre done!
You call this guy in the video Leroy, he's a nice kid, he's been in and out of prison since the age of about 18, good to see he's settled down and grown up now. Do wish he'd get a full set of proper tools though, especially gloves lol Stay with it Leroy, we love you kid!
Those bleed screws are actually used to check for water, if you hold a cup under the canister and unscrew it a few turns and catch some fuel in a cup the water will sink to the bottom ( if it has any) I check mine now and again, although never had any.. it can destroy high pressure pumps and injectors if not dealt with as it rusts the internals
I use a 1.7 diesel Astra, same as that one but blue. And I use it to get back and forth to work, a 150 mile round trip everyday. And the car hasn't let me down once. It cruises at 70mph and uses very little fuel.
@SHAY MCCUSKER well i have 1-3 cdti astra and its done 95 000 miles just oil changes and break pads decent little engine did have a split turbo hose but i eventually found the split was a £5 fix🤣
Hi, how do I top up with diesel after the fuel filter change? Where do I pour in the top up fuel (to prevent the air bubble)? One of your videos showing that in clear detail would be massively appreciated...Thanks.
Fantastic video. Thanks for filming and uploading! Love watching your content especially these long videos you make. What camera do you use considering it is bound to get filthy with the type of stuff you film?
Great video, shame you never had a socket wrench, long reach socket extension and a filter ratchet strap! But you managed to improvise with the adjustable spanner!
Use Parkers instead of EuroCarParts. Parkers are much better and a bit cheaper. Euro wanted £250 for a driveshaft for a 2000 Fiesta, Parkers sold it me for £67. Have stuff in stock all the time as well. And her auxillary belt is almost about to snap.
Great video this helped me a lot with my astra. I have a question about the fuel filter. I got the mahle kx231d this filter desent have rubber seals on it. Is it ok to use it? 1.7 cdti astra
The Savage Garage that could be a decent video exploring that problem. Whether you find it or not it's sometimes nice to see the pros search and explore problems. Lastly can I ask why you went full concentrate antifreeze as I thought it was meant to be 50/50 mix . Thanks keep it up
The Savage Garage First make sure the expansion tank cap is seated properly and the valve is free, they often fail of these which cause the system to over pressurise, also check the rubber hoses on the egr cooler and oil cooler very common on these 1.7s, also you may have a leak internally on the Egr cooler the silver metal body part on the front of the engine its filled with coolant which cools the gasses down it's basically a radiator, they can rust and let coolant in the egr passages which gets burnt up in the engine, had it one my previous van with same engine.
loved the video and tell your mum to visit renovareuk.co.uk and buy the nano engine oil and nano engine coolant (nano Maxx) i have them in my 283k 1.7 Astra and it runs better than new as repaired metal wear and dropped the engine temp, thanks christian and these work in any engine and if you don't believe read the 1.5k buyer feedback on my eBay shop
THE DAVID I picked up a socket set from lidl a while back 1/4 inch drive. Looked nice seemed fantastic for the price. Problem was the sockets would not fit on the ratchet.
THE DAVID the set I got was faulted as were others in the store. You couldn't fit sockets from any set to the ratchet. The other bits were fine its just the connector on the ratchet was a little too big.
Might have ben smarter to empty your oil first rather then heading it then running it through your new oil filter,i would have heated car emptied it and changed filter whilst waiting on it emptyingas your way you heated up your car running your dirty oil through your new filter
