I have just aquired this Vauxhall Signum, its pretty much the same as the Vauxhall Vectra and I need to change the dipped beam lamp on the passenger side. The normal way means you have to remove the front bumper cover but I find a way to change the lamp without removing the bumper cover.

They don’t make maintenance easy on cars these days. Having to take the whole bumper off to change a bulb is just ridiculous. Great that you managed to do it without taking it off but I’m sure that it puts a lot of people off attempting it. Would be an expensive bulb change in a garage. Keep up the good work Martin.

Nice motor the Signum. Underrated. The back is very luxurious for passengers. Also bumper removal only takes 5 mins it's really worth it when changing bulbs.

Before anyone slates me, I worked for a Halfords for 20 year's 😵, before I got tired of higher management, and left. Changing bulbs was a staple diet. Hidden clips and washer bottle pipe removals are standard practice. The important thing you, or anyone watching need to do is... If the bulb is a "477 type" as in the video, LOOK THROUGH THE LENS to seat it correctly. In your case Martin you have projector len's, therefore you won't see the bulb, unfortunately you have to fit it blind. My point is, manufacture's use certain clip's to hold the bulb, these can be easy to install wrong. Yes the light shines out, and the bulb SEEMS fitted. Year's and year's have taught me to stand in front of the offending headlight and check the beam has a distinctive upper line. Hope this helps, as I am forever getting blinded by incorrectly fitted bulbs. Great video though, as always.

@@procta2343 you are welcome. My worst memories of bulb changes are a side light in an imported mitsubishi people carrier (1hr +) and a HID in a Bentley Continental (45 minutes, 10 of those minutes was freeing my arm from the engine bay, bruised for a further week 😅).

With the indicator orange bulb you do need to at least loosen the bumper to get the whole casing out to change it as there’s no room at all to get it out, a right ball ache! Love the videos by the way great info 👍

Pain in the arse like my 306! those bulbs look like they for either dipped or full beam. The head light has a cover for the dipped beam. great to see you have a new project! I will be looking forward to see how you get on with this!

Yes, they are dipped beam and they were rubbish when I went out that night. I have ordered some better lamps.

Thanks for the advice, I could not get at my Indicator bulb using this method, but I took three quarter of the torque screws and two 8 mil nuts out on the bumper,and the two torque around the wheel arch cover. This enabled me to take the side of the bumper off on the drivers side. There were two more 8 Mil nuts holding the light unit in place, but are hidden under the bumper. The light came out eventually. It was not the bulb, it was the flasher bulb holder that had corrosion on one of the terminals. I cleaned the terminal, the flasher is now working.

I’m glad you are getting rid of the transit as much as I love them they don’t half rust everywhere and will fall apart as the years go on. Must be handy having two of the same car or nearly the same car you will learn how to fix them shame it’s an automatic not as reliable as a manual box but much more comfortable on a long drive through towns and city’s . on the Vauxhall Astra, there is a Hatch in the Wheel arch,, you can get to the back of the light that way

If people need to change the bulb and are worried about removing the bumper of the car to do it, you only have to remember there are two screws underneath the wheel arch and then the screws along the top then pull the bumper off and do not take off the peg like things at the bottom of it. You will find it will go on much easier plus much easier to access whole light to check it over

New wagon can’t wait for more guides. That signum does have cruise control it’s the left stalk behind the steering wheel Martin. That car has a lot of toys to play with. Being a auto diesel it’s more desirable.

Hi Martin great videos as usual another Vauxhall lover here owned about 6 astra vans in the signup you have a CD70 Navi Radio With a CID which means colour info display some models of the unit have AUX built in and MP3 they a quite easy to get to use if you get stuck give us a shout

Hi Martin I had a vectra you don't need to remove the bumper to replace any bulbs just take the air box out for driver side and if changing the bumper spot light bulbs just Jack the car up and you will see the little access hatch for each side,if you haven't already remove the rubber grommets under the wiper scutel panel this prevents water ingress, see you tube good cars.

No don't remove it coz then fumes get inside car , simple put it in warm water to get it plyable as it serves 2 purposes it stops fumes entering from engine bay but also drains water to stop car flooding via the heater .

Looks like you have got yourself a really good runner. It's in very good condition 👍👌😊. I like those kind of headlights but they can be a real pain to change. Great vid pal was just about to say pull the washer bottle pipe out and you can squeeze the bulb out my insignia is the same it's a nightmare to change the bulbs plus there held in with torx screws too so I have to get a stupid little bit in to undo it . Great vid lovely car can't wait to see future content just subscribed 👍🏻

Hi Martin, I have the vectra Sri and it also has sat nav etc if you press main on the buttons it takes you to the menu and the big black round button allows you to scroll through things such as sat nav , fuel consumption and so on ... if you’re in the main menu just press nav and you’re ready to go ... hope that helped a little lol ... and I had the same problem with the headlight bulbs until my mate who works for Vauxhall told me about the filler tube coming out lol 😂... hope you and the family are well 👍

I put the hid kit in and what a difference that made ... the headlights on the vectra have projector lenses so the hid kit works a treat .. thanks Martin

blue tint on bulb gives a whiter light from bulb, aftermarket ones which usually give a better percentage of light to road if a decent make. nice looking car that.

Great video, Martin! Enjoyed it very much as usual. :) One tip - I don’t know if it applies to the Vectra/Signun models, but I know that on my Zafira, the grille (which is the same design as the Vectra/Signum one) comes off with those screws at the top (as you saw), but the bottom is held on with clips. You need to carefully push them out, by reaching in with some pliers, or a screwdriver. Just thought you might want to know, in case you ever need to take it off in the future. Cheers :)

You changed the main beam not side light . If your car has projection lenses that is your main beam the big 1 next to it is the dipped beam (flash) both take H7 bulb type.

If you head over to Vectra C.com forum you will find lots of useful info on there. Its easy to drop the bumper 2 torx screws either side in the wheelarch and then the 4 you undone on the top then just pull the sides out gently whilst pulling it forward about 10mins to do.

Brilliant cars these are, I found halogen bulbs in my vectra was like driving blind, just rubbish. Best bulbs are the LED nighteyes off eBay, 100x better and brilliant at night

There should be an inspection cover in the wheel arch easier if you take the wheel off although can be done with full lock on. (If it’s set out like the Astra)

Cruise control is on end of indicator stalk I just got one of these last week a 2.2 dti elegance but an 04 plate and a day after i got it the slave in the box packed in so car all stripped down waiting on a new slave coming. Gonna enjoy your vids on this one.

The mk 5 astras have similar headlights. I think you change the bulbs from the wheel arch. Little plastic flap you lift up gives you access to the bulbs You think they would of made vectra and insignia the same. That's vauxhall for ya.

yeah youtube always first port of call for me these days ! ive got a vectra and when a bulb went was reading about having to take the bumper of ???............managed to do it pretty much how you did, tho as mine is a 55 plate with the squarer headlamps, maybe i had a bit more room as didnt need to pull the bottle tube in the end..............its videos like this that save people a lot of grief ! :)

love your videos mart, especially when your back on cars. i was a little woried when you were close to the battery live terminal with your watch and ring, iv had a mate work on a van and reached under the seat to reach something and his watch made contact with the live terminal and gave him a nasty burn on his wrist. by the way, any chance of having the van for free lol. worth an ask.

Changing a bulb on my A3 was a pain and i mean literally because i bruised my hand doing due to limited access. Now got a 2005 Corolla and everything is so accessible. Have you still got the black Vectra?

Owned one of those a few years ago. Can you tell if the swirl flaps have been converted from plastic to brass. It's common for them to fail. First sign is diesel pooling on the head. Cheap for brass conversion on e-bay takes about 20 min to do.

yes, simple jobs like changing a bulb take ages and a lot of faffing around. Not like older cars, so simple to maintain. I think they want people to come to the 'stealership' so they can charge them £100 for changing a bulb...lol

If you just remove the filler pipe for the screenwash you don't need to go through all this hassle. No need to remove the light.

Nothing to do with safety my brother it's just that halogen bulbs you get the oils from your skin on to it and it makes it burn out faster that's all

Considering that working bulbs are a legal requirement, and something that you should be able to replace at the road side, these manufacturers shouldn't design cars like this, that should be against the law.

yes my parents have a Chevy Cobalt with this kind of crap, the right side lens you have to actually wiggle the Damm thing loose, just a way for shops to make more money it's a shame, this car you got would be along the lines of the Chevy Malibu we have here but gm never optoned a diesel on these kinds of cars, how did you find this by the way?
