"A man who never made a mistake never made anything" I knew a mechanic doing similar jobs with a homemade rig & he left it for days in situ for days on end going to the car or van every few hours to apply more pressure & this was the only way he would tackle it to get those sods out

Because The Universe is a right ****, we got a head in today where the gasket had failed a few years ago & the rear 2 injectors had been left to rust in solid - and I mean solid. I was thinking of my smart-alec comments to you, Mark, oh yessir I was. "We never use pullers..blah blah" - well Karma decided to teach me a fast lesson on opening yer gob about stuff.... :-) :-) ... sort those, smorty clogs.... For those who care - and those that don't - I got them out undamaged, but oh yes I did use a pullers..yessiree. Approach that worked was: Drench them in kerosene & go for tea. Tap them around sideways, which didn't produce any movement.. nada.. grabbed a big adjustable, put it onto the hold-down flats & cranked on them hard as I could, clockwise, so they wouldn't just unscrew - that produced a tiny bit of movement, drenched them in kero again. Repeated the clockwise twisting.. got again a tiny bit of movement. Got a small hammer & gave them a firm tappy-tap tap from all sides - just enough to shock them, not to do damage. Got a U shackle, put that around the injector under the hold-down bulges, to apply pressure without doing harm. Attached 2 chains to the shackle, up over a thick steel angle section - rigged so a 10 ton jack could apply pressure. That promptly broke the chain without anything moving.. soaked it in kero again & went off to find heavier chain.. Found heavier chain, used that & they came out undamaged, but like a bomb going off when they let loose... meh, outs out... Made a mental note to apologise to Mr Mark Smith, to never, ever again make smorty clog remarks on YT - because the bloomin Universe listens & will go "Ohhh, so you think you're clever do you Pal?? Here... here's a problem for ya..." Upside - undamaged, extracted injectors,sent off to be refurbed.. But gnarly puller used.. havn't needed one in years...

No worries, mate 👍 you won in the end and got them out, and undamaged 👌

Renault hydraulic puller would have took these out. If it doesn't then pretty much nothing will. Apply some heat as well as the heads are alloy and will expand more than the steel injector. The injector heads are now butchered so getting the rest of them out now is a head off job and take to a machining shop or scrap the head and source another. If you can get the camshaft carrier off then you can remove the head.
@tinker-time

I've got an air fed puller, I guess. Now, let try anything, I'll sort my blow torch out and try the puller at the same time

I drilled out 12 head studs/bolts, they sheared while trying to undo. They were imperial size similar to m12 bolts. I think i went up the 6mm drill bit. I then dropped a 1.2 welding rod in to the hole which I drilled. I connect the welder and had someone switch the welder on and off when needed. You see, I had to start welding from the bottom of the bolt to the top. This then shrunk the bolt. Welding lines in a sleeve will shrink it enough. I have removed bearing races the same way(internal type)
@tinker-time

Yer I could drill a hole, down the injectior then weld it back up, and pull the injectior in, see if it cracks off, 👍

Fair play mate, that's about as good a method I can think of, and it still wouldn't fully defeat it, maybe now that another 4 inches of injector are out the way, a good penetrative fluid might have more chance? Drill it as far as you dare, tap it for the next ( imperial? I know your already close to the limit) size, and try again. Other than that, maybe a long series carbide in a die grinder and carefully carve the remnants out? In fairness, the investment in tooling and time probably outweighs the cost of pulling the head and having a machine shop mill them out. 😢

I dunno how many heads I work on every month - a lot - today was a Navaras - this ^ started as a disaster & continues to be a disaster. :-) The whole "stuck injector" thing kinda baffles me. I get stuck turbo/exhaust manifold bolts, I understand people being hung up by those - personally they don't bother me as we've the gear to beat them - but I don't "get" the "stuck injectors" thing. Never used a puller of any sort - not even once, not even on the black-deathiest injector going that would seem stuck solid. You bang 'em aroundyways, with a heavy drift & a big hammer. Then bang 'em aroundyways the other way - until they come loose. It's physics/chemistry. If they whinge & resist, chuck some kerosene onto them & sod off for a cuppa - then bang them aroundyways again. If they only move 0.5mm around, that shatters the bond. I did try tell ya before. :-)
@tinker-time

thanks for taking the time to wright this, the end injector is stuck, so i'll give this ago on that one

@jamesward5721 Месяц назад
@@tinker-time I told you this ^ in a previous video - I'm kinda thinking you're on a wind-up to try produce the most ridiculous injector-puller possible to get views, which is fair enough tbh - all's fair in war & YT. :-) But there may be people who actually want to get stuck injectors out, and they may be daft enough to start copying you. :-)
@jamesward5721
@jamesward5721 Месяц назад
Give your viewers a practical example - ball joints. Amateur mechanics will get a "ball joint puller" & crank it up to mental torque before the ball joint finally explodes free - or doesn't. Professional mechanics wouldn't be ar5et - they'd smack the control arm a couple of times with a big hammer & out pops the "most stuck" ball joint going - zero effort. You could pull some for a week & they'd not move - couple bangs of a hammer & they pop out themselves. Exact same applies to injectors. Same physics. The second you reach for a "puller", you're in trouble & are going to do harm. Hammer, not puller. Sideways, not up & down - you can hammer on a ball joint for an hour - it won't move & you will destroy it. Hit the side of the control arm twice & out it pops undamaged - why? Physics.

Sorry, you feel, I come across like that, 🫤 pincher make the best pulling tool out there, but at 3,5k price tag, and work well I had to come up with something, that just cost my time, and stuff I had laying around, it did work on one of the injector tho,
@jamesward5721
@jamesward5721 Месяц назад
@@tinker-time I reckon you're still not really getting the point, lol - pulling.on.an.injector.is.a.mugs.game. Hardship. I don't care if the puller costs 35k - pulling is DAFT. Impact frees injectors & a hammer is 12 quid.

@sally6457
@sally6457 Месяц назад
I'm confused? I like the brute force thing, but where's the penetrative oil? The heating and cooling? Why not try putting less force, adding a release solution, and leaving under moderate pressure for a while? And if you've already committed to destroying the injectors, what's stopping you removing the head completely to access the injectors from both ends? I'm proficient, but no expert in moron engines, and I've never worked on these particular engines, so it's always great to learn from others 👍
@tinker-time
@tinker-time Месяц назад
These 2.0 engine in these van are a nightmare, the head is alloy so if I heat it up and cool it I'll warp it, ( bend it) taking the head off is the resort, then it would have to go to a machine shop to have removed, you can only see the tip sticking off from bottom if I pushed on that it would just go straight into the injectior and not move it, there also a chance I could slip and damage face of the head or the vavles 👍
@jadeshaw1867
@jadeshaw1867 Месяц назад
@@tinker-time the head should be able to take the heat of a hot air gun etc. Iv rebuilt loads of mx bikes always heat casea up to fit new crank bearings. Never warped a pair of cases yet. And those mx cases are about 4mm thick. Some are case to case fitment with no gasket.
