VC Thread: Female Artist Spotlight. Give me 5 to 10! Plus some Vinyl Finds.  

Mike, getting home after work, settling in and watched your thread entry. Superb! What I love about your videos is that a bunch of stuff you show always takes me back to my early post-college days in the late 80's/early 90s: Lush, T Muses, C Twins, Siouxsie. I have a bunch of that stuff also, but not on vinyl. I saw Lush here in New Haven CT back around 1990 when Gala was released. De-Luxe was the song that got me hooked, and I think Babes In Toyland opened for them. Missing Persons are great, and I've paying attention to your Stereolab endorsements! A band I need to explore for sure. I appreciate you taking the time to make the video and mentioning my channel. Thanks again! 😎🎶🎸🎹

Hi Mike, some great choices there! Great to hear that Stereolab are your favourite band, mine too. From the first time I heard them on John Peel’s essential radio show, in ‘91. Seen them many times. I’m from the north of England originally, but moved to France with my French wife 3 years ago. We went to see them in paris in 2022. So good. Also had tickets for a Uk gig in Hastings on the south coast, in 2023 but Covid intervened ! But saw Laetitia play in Lyon in May. It was on a small boat moored up. Very small intimate gig, but she was fantastic! Love the latest album, do you have it? Got to meet her afterwards, but I’ve met her many times over the years, she’s so cool and so friendly. Cocteau’s ate another one of my favourite all time bands. We lived in Scotland for many years together, my kids were born in Glasgow. It’s a music crazy city. So many gigs! I have all the Cocteau’s album, but not that one with Harold Budd, must check that out. I do know the Robin Guthrie Harold Budd collaboration. That’s a brilliant record if you don’t know it. Lush & the Banshees. Just a couple of suggestions for you in case you’re not familiar. Female French band Juniore, are pretty great and k think you’ll like them. There’s a couple of UK artists too, Jane Weaver, she had a new album out, I think she’d appeal to you. Cate Le Bon a brilliant welsh artist, and This is The Kit, English, but based in Paris now. Good luck with the gig dilemma ! A tricky one that, I might have to let down my daughter and go see DIIV I like their stuff too! 😂 Those ticket prices for Martinez are insanely overpriced! The Wall is probably my favorite PF album. Probably! Mine is the 2000 reissue.

I wish Miki Berenyi had played in my area with Lol & Budgie but no such luck. The Real Ramona is my favorite Throwing Muses album. I love the clip of Kristen singing Your Ghost on Conan. She gains confidence as the track progresses & its great to see. It's usually posted on YT.

Do you have a video of your audio gear? I would really like to know what kind of a stereo system you have...(by the way, Gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists as well)
