You are very welcome! There are a lot a nuances to these things. But I’m glad u found my overview useful.
@EscapeArtistClub

One big drawback for the voice live play is that the sensor it uses to detect the tones to put harmony its to (called "NP"), usually will not work past 2 hours of "sensing" without being unplugged/replugged in to reset it. Sometimes it won't even last an hour without requiring a reset. I've owned 3 and they all have that problem. I have 3-4 hr gigs, so its a real pain. If you rarely need the harmonies, its no big deal but if you do the "NP" sensor is paramount.
@brentbrownmusic
@brentbrownmusic Год назад
Whoa! That’s crazy. I never knew that about it. I feel like that would be a relatively simple update; Do u know if anyone has emailed TC about it?
@EscapeArtistClub
@EscapeArtistClub Год назад
@@brentbrownmusic I've emailed them and spoke to tech reps at Sweetwater on several occasions. Its a hard problem for them to duplicate because you literally need to use it for a least 3 hrs, and then also regularly use the harmony "hit" button. I've had some last 6 months before the problem popped up, and then one I bought recently worked for about 15 min before it needed to be reset.
@brentbrownmusic
@brentbrownmusic Год назад
@@EscapeArtistClub Stuff like that is a real bummer.. I really hope they introduce a new pedal soon with some advancements. Thanks for telling me about this though; I will be listening for that now.
@EscapeArtistClub
@EscapeArtistClub Год назад
@@brentbrownmusic Here's how to know for sure: if you ever think the harmonies sound wrong, look down at the screen and notice whether the term "NP" pops up on the screen whenever you change chords on your guitar. If it doesn't, the sensor needs to be reset, (by unplugging and plugging back in).

I'm on my third play acoustic unit now and never had that issue? And I play 3h gigs 6 nights per week all year round... There is some warbling of the sound though at higher stage volumes but thats to be expected..

Hi Brett, great video. Novice to all this technology hence why im researching it. So im looking to invest in my own self sufficient set up as basic and portable as can be. Which one of these would you recommend for someone who is new to the equipment but wanting to gig professionally?. Also any recommendations on a speaker to accompany a vocal box? TIA
@brentbrownmusic
@brentbrownmusic 8 месяцев назад
I think either option would be great. The TC Helicon will sound better in my opinion right out of the box if you aren't that into sound sculpting. But if you set the mic pre-amp up high on the VE500 and adjust the eq's compression how you like; It has more modern sounding effects and functionality. Either would be great tho! I'm really happy with the Bose S1 Pro Plus. But I heard the EV Everse 8 is great too. Thanks for watching! And good luck

Hi Brent, I’m just picking up one of the Boss VE500’s. In this video you mention linking yours via midi to your looper to keep things (maybe just delay?) in sync? I might be curious how you going about hooking this up. I run a boomerang III phrase sampler for looping and was curious if I ever did want to try syncing it to the VE500 and how that would look. I know the rang also have some midi connections on it that I haven’t used. I will try it on my own but thought I’d inquire since it sounds like you might have some knowledge of this type of thing. Thanks for the video.
@brentbrownmusic
@brentbrownmusic 6 месяцев назад
Hey there! Yes I use to sync delay (just to be fancy). It's been awhile, but I believe Boomerang states their midi is only for hooking to their products. That being said, it still might be possible to run out of the boomerang into the VE500 to send midi even if it's not advertised. I wish I knew, but I'de still encourage you to give it a go. Just return if it doesn't work. Best of luck Chris!

Hey dude !!! I just watched a ton of your videos and I don't know what vocal pedal to get. How do you feel about the Boss now ? Did they update it to fix the Harmony problem ? I play guitar and bass, but bass in my 80's band and just want to add effects to my vocals. I like the Berry White...etc effects, and a bunch of the effects on the TC Helicon, but I also have a lot of Roland and Boss gear and that stuff is so solid. Let me know what you think for a live 80's band. Super psyched I saw your videos !!!! Your super talented !!! If yer in Pennsylvania and need a drummer, I have 2 Roland kits TD 27 and TD-17 electronic drums. Have a great day !!!! 😁👍

I coulda sworn I responded to this and it might not have gone through. Thanks for all the love on these videos!🙏 The harmonies are still occasionally wonky on both units, but hopefully with the improvement on chip speeds future units will be better. I say Acoustic Play sounds better with more ease. The Ve500 has newer sounding effects, but u really need to dial on your preamp, eq, and compression (less plug and play). I have both units and enjoy them both as well. So it’s really hard to choose. The Ve-500 is a little smaller and if u use other Boss stuff, it’ll be a nice aesthetic. But worst case, you got reverb.com if u don’t like something. Or 30 days on amazon and guitar center. Thanks again for supporting the channel😊

The Headrush apparently has Anteres Autotune, so I’m assuming it could access a harmonizer. Mainly vocals, maybe consider the TC Helicon Voice Live 3 extreme. If u don’t need a harmonizer built in, I freaking love the RC600 and RC-505mk2. They have tons of cool FX and highly customizable. Hope that helps!

I love the TC Voice Play but it needs an update. Replace the body rez feature with an IR Loader as they sound better with an acoustic, add the capability to EQ the Guitar and Voice and prevent feedback like a notch filter, add a better looper and voila, finally allow for balancing volumes between guitar and vocals and you're all set. As an option maybe duplicate the functionality of the Fender Smolder Acoustic gain effect.
@brentbrownmusic

@@Purple_Pixel I own both of these and actually think the same for both. One setup utilizes Midi for tempo on delays, so I use the VE-500. But the small footprint on both of them is $. They just need to upgrade. And I think videos and comments like this will eventually catch the attention of their creators.
@Dark0ne2099
@Dark0ne2099 Год назад
1. Ditto on the IR, although the bodyrez doesn't sound bad, but it could be much easier to get a good sound out of it. 2. While you can't EQ the vocals (aside from the presets) you can EQ the guitar extensively. theres two fixed EQ's and two Parametric EQ's and a notch filter for feedback rejection. Only for guitar though. 3. i don't know what you mean on balancing the volumes since you can definitely control every single input/output/fx level on the MIX tab.

Excuse me for commenting from Japan. I am currently using voice live 2 and am considering purchasing the VE-500. I would like to ask about the VE-500. Is it possible to correct the pitch of a singing voice naturally without making it sound croaky with the pitch correct effect? Also, when using pitch correct and monitoring my own voice with headphones, will the corrected voice sound a little delayed from the original voice, causing a double sound or something strange? Also, I heard that there are pitch correct keys that you set yourself and ones that you set by playing the guitar, but is there a function that automatically matches the key using a RU-vid sound source as a trigger? And one more thing, which one has better harmony sound quality, voice live 2 or this? Sorry for the long message. If you don't mind, I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.
@brentbrownmusic
@brentbrownmusic 4 месяца назад
Hi there! I agree that the pitch correct isn’t very good. I don’t use it, so I’ve really not dug into it. It’s unfortunate there is a delay! I just my set to pick up mid range frequencies and run my output of the entire mix into the through when looping. So u would want to run and extra output of the RU-vid source into the through if that is what u want it to detect the key of. I think the TC Helicon is better for harmonies, but u can tinker and get the VE500 pretty good. Both of them still need improvement though! I hope this helps. Thanks for watching🙏

@@dylanscharneckThe harmony effect on the VE500 isn’t as good. Although I like the vast amount of pre-processing you can enable, the VE 500 isn’t as intuitive and doesn’t even come with a headphone jack. The TC Helicon is way more user friendly and I think the pitch correction sounds more natural. Basically, if you want a pedal that you can really fine tune (without harmonies because they’re not great) get the VE 500. @AmarMonroe So for a long time I've looked to run backing tracks off of my Laptop or DAW, and have the pedal automatically change pitch correction to match the key of the song coming through either my laptop or DAW, automatically. I realized that this is only possible with the VE 500 which has automatic key change capabilities built in. This could be great - especially for those vocalists who constantly change tracks and setlists on the fly, this pedal, I think, could work great with that using either the Midi Ox utility/plug in. Anybody keen on giving this a go? Again, this is for those vocalists who just want a clean, constant sound with a bit of pitch correction and not many effects through out their shows. Another option I'm looking at is through a VIRTUAL AUDIO CABLE, know anything about this?
@dylanscharneck

My plan was to try them all out, now my plan is to return the RC 5 and RC 500, Keeping the 6 loop RC 600. Is there any reason to keep one of the other two ? I like the simplicity of the 2 loop RC 500, I like the power and size (and price) of the RC 5, but to be practical is it logical to just go with the 600, want for nothing, and grow into it ? I am new to looping but tend to use most of my gear a lot. If I need it to perform the cost factor isn't huge... Yes a lot of boss pedals have a very similar look now a days. How do you like the GT-1B? And my biggest tip would be to press on whatever you enjoy using the most. Get really good at one element at a time and then expand from there. You will know the next thing you need to do while you are playing for people. It will become apparent naturally. But! I suggest you record performances and watch back. Take notes on your self and take notes on others. RU-vid has been huge for me because sometimes I do a ton of takes. That makes me really learn the heck out of a song and or loop execution. I can't tell you what you should buy or sell. My choices for gear were all made carefully, 1 at a time. You can send 2 identical vocal XLR's out to both be mono, but you can't send any guitar out. U made me peek through the manual. I have never used. I’m sure it’s better in some ways, but the fact there is not a manual EQ available is absurd to me. So when I run into my looper or mixer, for the TC stuff; I always have to do an additional post eq to whatever automatic thing it does.

@@brentbrownmusic I have the Tc vl3 but not the boss ve500. the vl3 does have an eq, but only one, I think you need a minimum of 2 since the effects chain is large. The boss pedal catches my attention, perhaps some effects have a better sound, but I think that nothing has more features and editions than the vl3.and I don't like that they are for guitar too, I would prefer even more dedication to the voice. In any case, I hope for a next new gear that covers all those gaps and that sounds less digital. Thank you

Yea! Most every piece of gear has a factory reset. Check the manual as I know this does.

I think it's just a difficult endeavor. TC Helicon in my opinion need to make a new version! They made it so long ago and it was groundbreaking at the time.

@@brentbrownmusic All these devices seem from a bygone era, however it is amazing how many things the TC Helicon VoicePlay and the Roland Boss V-500 can do... and even the simplest ones like the Roland VE-5. But they all have technology from more than 7 years ago, so I wonder what could be done with current technology applied to vocal processors! Unfortunately it seems that it is not a very productive and consuming market, as it would be the case of guitarists... I think that many singers underestimate how great it can be to have one of these devices to improve their presentations...

@@davidvierabarreras I totally agree with you on more people should consider using these. It really boils down to people thinking that it'll sound fake or "too much", however a little bit of tastefulness with these things go a long way. And some of those studio effects in a box are sooo much better than just using a mixer. We will have to just keep showing it's a desired pursuit and hopefully companies step it up!

@@brentbrownmusic exactly mate! Having a dedicated gear, that you can program to your style and genre... It's a great thing, why not have it on vocals? guitars, bassits, keyboardists have it! And I say more, not only traditional effects, even harmonizers and pitch correction can be great creative and interpretative tools. I always say: - if devices like these make a bad/regular singer sound good. By law, a good singer will sound splendid!

Can the VE-500 be programmed to do harmonies 2 octaves up? - and can it also be programmed to do EVERY interval in between? (that would be about 24 different options just with harmonies above the root..) -cuz the TC Helicon CAN do this, and I'm still looking for anything else (for vocals) that can..
@brentbrownmusic
@brentbrownmusic Год назад
I just fired mine up to look for you. It doesn't appear to have it in any easily identifiable form. Next best thing might be an octave and then a plus to format to raise the tonal register. I have the TC as well. Both of these pedals have strengths. But if you need that double octave, keep on the TC. Thanks for watching man!

@@brentbrownmusic Nice of U to fire it up.. I hope u fired up the SOFTWARE.. That is where the answer lies.. U probably know U can tweak the heck out of that thing with the software.. which I've learned it aparently does allow U to pick any interval (+different specific intervals with several different voices..) but I'm not sure if it does the same thing ABOVE 1 octave up..
