@@MetaMortis21we literally have the freest speech in the western world. By that, I mean that in addition to say anything that’s not hate speech like most of the western world, it also has the fewest laws limiting hate speech. It’s basically paradise for all you racist morons.
I find it strange that they didn't find an actual FINN to play a FINN. But this does follow the age old rule that whenever Finns or Finland are depicted in a series or movies, it always have to be kinda "off", like the people cannot really crasp what Finland is like.. There might be a Finn with a horrible Swedish or German accent, or in this case; with I-have-no-idea-what-this-is accent. Otherwise, a great show.
@@Leechwife Not at all! I loved Smack the Pony but it ended in 2003. More recently she starred in Parents, but that was only 1 season. I'm in the US, so it's likely she's been in a lot of shows that haven't made it over here.
it's quite often a character which acts the opposite of the main, probably one of the biggest examples being Harry and Draco for the first few books of the series
When they had the whole cast on the late night talk shows as the final season was winding down, it's a shame that they didn't invite the actress who played Minna. I feel bad for her.
@@paimon2391 Your explanation doesn't make sense to me, can you please clarify? I mean her name is Selina...and that is exactly what she meant for Mina to do. Why was Mina so shocked?
MnikM doesnt make sense how? Are u american? If u are, then it’s very easy to understand the joke. Finnish usually take everything literally. Here’s an example, “hi mr. watson”. then mr. watson, whose full name is john watson, who wants to establish some kind of proximity with the other party as in tries to be friendly instead of formal, says to the other person “call me john” instead of mr. watson. he means next time dont be so formal with him, but this person takes that literally and actually CALLS him john right at that moment. thats the joke.
@@paimon2391 Oh wait I completely missed that part because of the way she said Selina....I thought she was shocked that they could be on a first name basis, instead of her actually heeding the advice and immediately calling her Selina. I know what u mean now, thanks!
I swear those little details on Selina's face tell so much, they just kill me, they carry half of the comedy in a show where the lines are already pure brillance
hilariously i think Minna thinks they're "close as sisters" because Selina had called her a dear friend earlier. which was of course just political bs, but Minna took it at face value as she always does.
Perhaps my favorite guest character on the show. Which is saying a lot, because the show has a lot of great guest characters. Her so-called "friendship" with Selina is just funny to watch.
@@mrbgay45grey49 She is bragging that Finland is better than America in taking care of its citizens. Since it's a comedy, its exaggerated as perfect. One of my favorite characters.
@@mrbgay45grey49 Its semi-true :D as Finland and other nordic countries have really good system that helps people bounce back, and in Norway it is almost impossible not to succeed, you'll be taken care of in many many ways. Whereas in USA.. well if u poor then you're totally fucked :(
I love Taskmaster, in addition to a number of UK based shows. I wish someone in the US could sucsessully "adapt" (steal) those formats. I think James Corden tried, but he was better off singing in his car.
I'd buy it. Favourite line is when they're on the jet and Selina says she "belongs in an institution" referring to her library and Gary automatically says "it was a spa"
Hearing Selina repeat "You know, the Finns are known for their... their sense of humour" in that deliberately enthusiastic tone just gets me every time
Shinkajo. Besides the language Finns doesn't differ much from the rest of Scandinavia. Everyone seems to forget that Finland was a part of Sweden for 600 years and that Finland kept much of that common heritage during the Russian occupation. The retracing of unique Finnishness came with romantic national ideals in the end if the 19 th century. Also Finns are the biggest immigrant group in Sweden and there is no way you could tell their ethnical background besides a small accent.
@@michezacharius8078 apparently (according to a friend who's Baltic) ppl actually accidentally die this way sometimes when they go fishing in the winter
My favorite part about their character arc is that in the beginning Selina wants minna to publicly say they’re friends, because that’s how politics work in America. Then later minna does see her as a good friend and Selina wants no part of it hahaha.
@@dharmallars I loved it and watched every season at least three times so this must be one of the videos that lead me to the show...can't believe all the likes in that old comment :)
"I have not seen you since you failed to vote for me to be head of the IMF" "Umm... Oh and you changed your hair!" "Thank you I had more highlights. And you changed your eyelids! You had ocularplasty." "um..." " You look more alert."
That seems very doubtful to me, the show was created by and the writing room heavily staffed by english comedy writers. Almost certainly she was their choice, right?
I love how Minna is just a toned down version of the actress Sally Philips. If anyone doesn't believe me, watch the series of Taskmaster she stars in and you will see how crazily funny she is ^^
