My Dad sadly passed away, and I found one of these in his loft. After watching this I got it working, just needed to clean the little nodules. Thankyou so much xx
I recently bought a couple of VEF Spidolas from a Ukrainian seller. Mine are a bit different, they have 25, 31, 41, 49, 52-75 meters, MW, & LW. One of the two is the 50th anniversary edition. I haven't tried them out as of yet, I bought them because I liked the look of them, and it was a way of helping Ukrainians out. As for actually using them? I'd rather invest my time in my Hammarlund HQ-120-X. And you are right about a rotary turret tuner. :)
we used to get loads of problems with the old fireball tuners where the fingers used to bend up if you turned it in the wrong direction. duraglit and a oily cloth was the way we fixed them. the tuning gang sounds noisy on that demo. i had one of these radios it was great back then. i never had mine apart. look at the size of that spkr magnet !ha ha
What an unusual set. I've never seen one of these before. Looks a bit simpler than the Selena. Good luck with the alignment and removing that broken off screw. As its a captive nut in plastic that's going to be tricky. Thanks for sharing it and look forward to the next instalment. Graham
They are unusual but I love the design and just the plain black and cream plastic. They can get pricey on eBay, have a look at the 'Sold' listings for these and the replacement model (rectangular case) !
Don't spend too much Simon :) I'd really like an original Spidola, the model before this. The dial scales move around with the turret tuner evidently. They're quite rare though here. Thanks watching
I have got one of those actually, I believe from 1964. BTW I am the same guy sent one of those later models to shango066 couple of years ago, sadly postal service handled that package really roughly. But this earlier model is in my use for everyday listening, nice design element and in good condition, My favourite is a "Smooth Radio" and it has local ads on them, so it seam to be a Essex based transmitter. I need to do some plastic UV lightening though, waiting for sunny weather here in Southend-on-Sea. I am sure it will turn out nice!
Hi Tarmo, I remember that video Shango did! You're probably hearing Smooth Radio out of the Rayleigh transmitter on 1431kHz, you've also got another mast broadcasting Smooth on the Isle of Grain on 1242kHz. Yes, very nice radios, I would like the original Spidola but too expensive when on eBay.
I guess like most Russian gear ESP the cameras crude but effective and no bad thing and why I love Russian made cameras and radios! Nice little set that thanks for sharing, John.
