ARE YOU JOKING ME!! I literally went for Pad Thai about a week ago and thought "I wonder if Hot for Food has a recipe for this?" and I looked and she didn't and I wanted so bad for this to exist. AND NOW IT DOES!!! The universe heard me!!
You’re hooooooome!! Welcome, we missed you! So proud that you took time to take care of you-self care is so stinking important! You take out observations resonated with me on a spiritual level-I smell a resolution forming!! 😍
i love the satisfying "this is f*ckin fantastic food" dance when you try the food-- i do it too-- cuz you KNOW you can make some amazing vegan goodness. So proud. Also-- You were the first step in my switch to plant based. I FOREVER THANK YOU.
I love hot for food videos. But I think Lauren has never tried Tamarind. There are few things more sour than Tamarind and in my opinion Dates are not a good substitution.
Falon Bejarano maybe the rice wine vinegar + an adjusted amount of lime juice makes up the difference? But I agree, dates don't seem like they'd be an effective replacement for tamarind...
Yeah I agree. Tamarind is better. I'm not sure she knows what tamarind is though because she said dates is more of a fruit sugar which doesnt really make sense because tamarind is a fruit
@@ShannonDSouza She did say that it was a better substitute than some of the other alternatives because it was a fruit sugar - not that it was a substitute for Tamarind for that reason.
Yeah... she's amazing. But tamarind does not have a sweet taste profile. It's sour/ acidic that's why people use tomato paste. I think lemon is a way better sub for tamarind
GOD DAYM that look delicious. I'm home with real bad girly cramps and THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED RIGHT NOW! I think I'm gonna ask my man to make a quick trip to the Grocery store :D
If I end up making this I’d probably air fry my tofu first and then throw it in the pan just to get the sauce in and carmalized on it. If you coat the tofu in cornstarch you don’t even need oil; it gets incredibly crispy and perfect. Also I’m too lazy to individually flip tofu cubes 😘
I watched the video, bought the ingredients the following day and cooked. Delicious! I love Pad Thai and was looking for a recipe with an authentic sauce.
Good sub with the dates but anyone who has actually eaten both knows how different they are. Tamarind is very sour with a subtle sweetness where as dates are extremely sweet with no sour flavor. I think it’s a great sub for the dish since tamarind can be hard to find but you lose the sourness. Tamarind can be found at any Asian or speciality grocery store :)
Yesss this is what I needed. I've made Pad Thai 3 times already but just wasn't happy with the outcome with tamarind paste. Thinking that using half paste half dates will be exactly what I needed!!
The mobile internet signal tonite is so horrible maybe its becoz of the wind interfering with the signal i don't really know how that kind of things work, but coming to my point, when i got the notification i waited a bit for the signal to be better(still not perfect) to watch this it is now 12:50am on thursday(12th jan) moring, but i couldn't sleep knowing there's a new video from hot for food...now here i am very sleepy but satisfied , kinda hungry with no regrets for waiting a bit to watch it...love u lauren i love this video...well done..wish u the best year with loads of blessings and luck in the days to come..God bless...
Jude Mihalich if you have an Asian market near you, they should have it. Obviously it won't be labeled vegan and instead it'll be called "Mushroom Oyster Sauce" Every market near me has it! Double check the ingredients before you buy
I just blend some fried oyster mushrooms with green onions and dark soy source. I don't like the store bought vegan oyster sauce as the one I can get is full of preserves.
Gahhh! I’ve missed you! So happy you took time for yourself! Love love love this recipe! You inspire me! Where’s that shirt from! It’s so perfect! Coming in hot with the pad Thai and totally trendy top! I love it!
This recipe looks so good, similar to a take way I had of Kung Pao tofu. But yeah, I ended up making extra broccoli so why not just make it. Tamarind is a bit sour and i like the idea of dates better actually, especially with some heat. Thanks for the recipe!! Happy New Year to John and your kitty.
They are some what similar, Tamarind has a sweat sour taste opposed to the just sweet and comes from the Arabic words Tamar = Date and Hind = India, so Indian Dates. :)
There are two types of tamarind, sour and sweet. Sweet is for eating as is or use in candy. The sour stuff is sour but different from citrus. I dunno I guess if you live in a small town and don't want to order tamarind you could use something else but tamarind isn't hard to find. Most asian grocery stores of most ethnicities carry it.
Happy New Year Lauren! Hope you had a great vacay! As I drink my morning coffee I now want this pad Thai for breakfast,Lol! Can't wait for the cookbook!
This looks so ducking good! It's my favourite food, i order it all the time cause i always think i could never make it myself. But i'll definitely try out your recipe 😍👏🏻
Tayler Griffin I've found mushroom oyster sauce at my local Asian grocery store. It won't say "vegan" on the label so you'll have to read the ingredients. Hopefully that helps ☺
You can find it on amazon.com search (vegetarian oyster sauce) here is the link Vegetarian Mushroom Oyster Sauce, 35fl oz www.amazon.com/dp/B00LBLYMMO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XmWwAbMKF7KPF
Wow! This looks great! I'm psyched to try this! I just went to the store to buy all the ingredients. I didn't buy the Miso, I hope that's ok to leave it out? I hate buying things I barely use. I'm going to cook it today and post pics!
Hi Lauren, this recipe looks great, can’t wait to try it! Also there was a podcast where you showed us your meditation room and mention a podcast that helped you build a practice. Can you tell me the name of the podcast? I Can no longer find the video where you talked about it.
Thank you, I've have been waiting ages for this video. Pad Thai is my jam! After my friend parents retired and closed down their restaurant. I have had a hole in my heart were my weekly homemade Pad Thai used to be.
Happy New Year and welcome back. I look forward to many more delicious recipes from you. I wanted to ask something. Did you say TAMARIND? I was little confused when you say MEJDOOL dates can replace Tamarind. The reason is as tamarind is NOT sweet in taste. It has sour tangy taste. It is used in cooking to impart tangy flavor to cooking. I apologize if I didn't hear the mejdool dates instead of tamarind paste correctly.
