This is the best ever Vegan White Pizza! The pita style homemade crust is thin and crispy. Delicious Alfredo sauce adds a robust flavor. Top it off with onion, artichoke hearts spinach or arugula for the best vegan white pizza.
Pita Crust Ingredient List
1.5 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon yeast
½ teaspoon sugar
½ cup water
1 flax egg or egg replacer
2 tablespoons olive oil
2-3 tablespoons cornmeal to cover pizza stone or baking sheet
White Sauce Ingredient List
1-tablespoon butter
4 cloves garlic- minced
1.5 tablespoons flour
½ teaspoon black or white pepper
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ cup plant milk
¼ cup vegan Parmesan cheese,
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
Topping Ingredient list & preparation:
7 ounces Artichoke hearts
1 small can sliced mushrooms, drained
1- small raw onion- thinly sliced
3 ounce arugula or chopped fresh spinach
1 medium Sliced fresh tomato
1 inch x 3 inch x 1 inch piece Mozzarella -sliced very thin. Could use ½ cup shreds.
Dough Preparation:
Mix yeast, sugar and water. Set aside to proof 5-10 minutes until bubbles start forming
Make your flax egg or egg replacer in your mixing bowl. Stir in oil.
Sift Flour and salt into the mixing bowl with the egg replacer. Slowly stir in yeast mixture. Knead about 3 minutes. Add flour as needed to form a soft, smooth dough ball. Cover and let rise until double in size. About 30-45 minutes.
Sauce Preparation:
Place butter in small saucepan. Stir in minced garlic and flour. Cook until combines, Stir in milk, Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Cook until thick. Stir in remaining sauce ingredients. Remove from heat.
Preheat oven to 425 F. Roll out dough to ¼ inch thick, makes about a 15-inch circle. Place on a cornmeal coated baking sheet or pizza stone. Bake 7-8 minutes.
Remove from oven:
Spread the sauce on hot crust.
Layer toppings:
Onion, mushroom, artichoke hearts, arugula or spinach, tomato and mozzarella.
Bake additional 5-8 minutes.
Notes:
Both cheeses are optional
Don’t add too many toppings.
Dough can be stored in the refrig. overnight. Oil top and cover tightly.
