It's mind-boggling that this is the first time Krieg, Gin, and Pearl have appeared since Baratie. Mind-boggling in a sense that the arc itself was so long ago.
@@thekeyboardguy3667 Yeah I agree. It is most likely Gin and Krieg, but not 100% confirmed. Still crazy that Oda would just discreetly insert that in a random panel.
I agree, The Baratie arc took place in the East Blue saga, very early on in the series. It's been over 1000 chapters since we last saw them, and their reappearance in Hachinosu has generated a lot of excitement and speculation among fans.
I am more into "between you, theres another reincarnation will of joyboy will come" He said will because at the time he records the video he doesnt know luffy as joyboy yet
That would be interesting (or confusing since few people know the name joyboy) to the people of the one piece world but useless to us the readers since we already know about Luffy.
@@Farisss11but why leave off on a cliff hanger we already know. It would make more sense to tell the world info we know then blue ball us with something we most likely want to know
The ending is so beautifully done xD But thank you so much for these high quality and high credibility review, it allows me to get the full experience of every new chapter. The production value is insane
Instead of thinking what the D stands for in English, the D might find its origin from a Japanese word starting with D -----> Dai-ichi which means Number One or First... In chapter 1114 Vegapunk said Joyboy was the FIRST pirate to roam the seas. So D could stand for "The will of the clan of the FIRST".
a problem with that theory is on the meaning of the parts of that word as technically the connotation of "dai-ichi" the part that has the 1 is ichi not dai, as dai is also used in seocnd third and fourth, nidai, sandai, yondai and so fort, so D beign Daichi is a stretch because in the same way first is more commonly spelled as Shodai, which begins with an S
Agreed, that Oda, the creator of One Piece, often draws inspiration from different cultures and languages, and Japanese is definitely a significant influence in the series. The connection between "D" and "Dai-ichi" meaning "First" could be a clever way to hint at Joyboy's legacy and the significance of those who carry the initial. This theory aligns with the idea that the "Will of D" is something passed down through generations, possibly originating from a single ancestor or clan. If Joyboy was indeed the "First" pirate, as Vegapunk mentioned in chapter 1114, it would make sense for his descendants or those who inherit his will to carry a mark signifying that connection. The "D" could then represent not just an individual, but a lineage of those who carry the torch of freedom and exploration that Joyboy embodied. Furthermore, the concept of being "Number One" or "First" resonates with the qualities often associated with those who bear the "D." Characters like Monkey D. Luffy, Gol D. Roger, and Portgas D. Ace are all driven by a strong sense of ambition and a desire to carve their own path. They are revolutionaries, dreamers, and individuals who refuse to be bound by the limitations imposed by the World Government. Of course, this is just speculation, but it's certainly a compelling theory that adds another layer to the mystery surrounding the "D" initial. It would be interesting to see if Oda confirms or hints at this connection in future chapters, perhaps by revealing more about the history of the Ancient Kingdom or the true meaning of the Void Century.
This is why I love your channel. You bring such amazing clarification and explanation to the meaning of the words in the chapter. Almost no one else does it to your level. I really appreciate it, as a non-Japanese speaker, to understand some of the deep wordplay Oda is using. Thank you.
Arthur, you are a part of my one piece experience from months and months now! Your analysis are amazing, i can't imagine reading a new chapter without hearing your thoughts later! Love your job mate ❤
I think the thing inside the D clan members might be how Blackbeard "ate" a second fruit and all D clan members can do it but only them. That's my theory for now
I had this idea as well but I’m going to comment here since you said it first. I think this idea is awesome and I would love to see it. We’ve only been told that people can’t eat 2 devil fruits and we’ve only been shown one example of it actually happening. Without an explanation. I truly think D clan members can eat 2 devil fruits. Who created devil fruits anyway? I have so many questions 🤣🤣🤣 either way sorry for the rant. I 100% agree with your idea.
The official Shueisha translation of this chapter in portuguese ends Vegapunk's message with "um", which means "one". The whole translated message is "vou deixar uma mensagem para todos vocês espalhados pelo mundo, que possuem D. em seus nomes... Em vocês há um-" directly in english, it would mean "I'll leave a message to all of you scattered around the world, which have D. in your names... Amongst you there is-". But it also can means the "inside" bit of the video. Since Shueisha is an official provider, there also is this meaning, we'll have to wait and see.
@Gehinomlezvuvim he forgot to add "a" at the end of the english version, so -> there is "a". That means "out of many, only 1" and because it's talking about the D clan, it's most likely referring that between all the D characters there is one that's "X". It made everything simpler and obviously Blackbeard is the only D that's different, I believe it was going to mention Blackbeard, which could lead to a certain reveal of shanks will against him.
Vegapunk put everything in front for the normal one piece fans to be caught up. Mostly just got the world sinking but we could have figured that out as wano was a small version of this with the walls We'll get the true true story when robin finds it
It's true that Vegapunk has revealed a lot of information that connects previously scattered plot points. The World Government's fear of the Ancient Kingdom and the true history it represents seems to be at the core of their actions. It also seems like the events in Wano were a microcosm of the larger conflict that's been brewing. While we've gotten some answers, the full truth still eludes us. It's likely that Robin's journey to uncover the Rio Poneglyph and the true history will be crucial in piecing together the complete picture.
I think that Vegapunk's message to the D clan is that any one of them could, in fact, be an actual descendent or reincarnation of Joyboy. Because I think the ancestors of those who have D in their name like the Monkeys, Portgas, Trafalgars, Gol and Jagwars could have originated from the ancient kingdom and Joyboy could possibly be one of the Monkey family.
maybe related to law's hidden name of Water somehow??? water -> sea -> imu -> a branch of the D clan that is also related to the Nerona family?? just spitballing rn
Damn! Such an important message from Vegapunk that every characters wanted to know. Now i know how the characters feel when the message was cut off. well done.
"Within you, there is another *Joyboy* "... Is what I would be guessing he wanted to say. After all, when we first saw him react to Luffy in Gear 5th he was acting like he expected to see or hear about another Joyboy appearing eventually. I mean, he literally said "I knew it was fate! I didn't expect to meet *him* like this!" which in my opinion implies that he knew there would be a time when another Joyboy would arrive.
Based on viz translation and vegapunk's stern expressions throughout his message ima guess that vegapunk was gonna say that "within you there is also/already the power to activate the ancient weapons" or "within you there is also/already the truth of the void century"
12:30 point 6 is not confirmed. There's a viable possibility that the creation of the red line added so much volume to the sea that levels rised from it. Therefore destroying the red line ( or the user that made it rather ) would lower the level of the sea back to pre-void century levels. If Imu had used Uranus 200 times the world would either have exploded or the seas would look like swiss cheese.
i agree with you on that, but i also think something did happen to the planet to create the grand line and its anomalous climate conditions, in my thinking the ancient weapons are the cause but i guess their true power has not been shown yet.
Some tidbits. The throw Jimbei uses is "kata guruma", a throw from jujutsu and judo that used to be very common in judo competitions before a rules change a few years ago. It's usually called "fireman's carry" in the West. I think every throw Jimbei has used has been from judo. Also in Kagoshima's aquarium in Kyushu they have a popular whale shark called Jimbei. Jimbei is a whale shark man, so that's kinda cute. So was Jimbei, got to see him a few weeks back.
I think there's probably more to Vegapunk's broadcast. There's probably a reason he specified the world get their Video Transponder Snails so I'd expect the message to have some sort of visual component.
Omaesantach no naka ni mo... can also mean "even among you", with "ni mo" being a complex particle of its own. Like a famous song "Ame ni mo makezu" - "I won't be defeated even by rain" more or less
I believe every member of the D clan carries Joyboys will that’s why they all smile in the face of death. The only member not to smile was Blackbeard implying he might not really be of the D clan or a traitor born within it. Vegapunk might of been implying that among them is a monster that will try and that is destined to destroy the world
Chapters like this really make learning Japanese to a high level pay off. Reading the raws in Japanese was already my routine, so this was really fascinating because it felt like I understood the story on a deeper level compared to if I only read the English version.
"Among you is the mother flame..." or some variant. Luffy was able to power the iron giant through the drums of liberation. There is a connection between, nika the sun god, joyboy as the original wielder and finally Luffy. Maybe to awaken nika requires the user to be of the d clan and that is why it's not been awakened in so long.
Inside the D clan resides pieces of the mother flame. Its why when Ace died, whitebeard invisioned a flame being burnt out. Its the inherited will that is passed on by the D clan.
There's several possibilities for that _mo_ but the stronger one that the video doesn't mention is that _mo_ could also be _mou_ getting cut off. And the word _mou_ has a little different meaning than the aforementioned particle; it means "already". I say this one is a much stronger possibility. Vegapunk is addressing a group of people, the people with the Will of D, and saying what he is about to say applies to that group. Having a _mo_ particle in there is a little confusing, because it means he's addressing someone within a group but saying they "also" do something. But with _mou_ it becomes more like "among you, there is already-" and it's a different story altogether. It means something is up with one of the Ds. Which would give extra meaning to the split panel just before Vegapunk is cut off. I think this is the actual way it's intended to be interpreted. All that said, I don't mean to say that that's what he was actually saying. Only Oda knows that. But thinking about audience interpretation, the word _mou_ would be rather commonly used in that sequence of words.
With so many people wondering what that "mo" word could mean, and some realizing there is no way for English-speakers to figure it out as it's something in Japanese, in comes Artur, our resident expert to clear it all up.
The member of D clan have more than one “soul”. There’s a reason why soul was focused on so heavily in egghead. I think the d clan have the ability to house more than one soul in there body. This would explain why black beard can eat two devil fruits. It might be something all D clan members can do. This would also explain the crazy amount of haki d members have as well.
in the case of Drake why after 25 years this bunch of youtubers havent actually noticed that most of the miracoulusly survived characters are zoans? and havent connected that to the huge resilience that rob lucci mentioned in water 7/ennies lobby? pell, drake, kaido not dying, luffy literally dead for some minutes? I mean even crocodile mentioned this with the awakened guards in impel down, with this in mind I dont see why drake surviving it is this shocking... for me it is obvious
I think vagapunk was trying to said "To those scattered throughout the world who bear the name of D, within you, there is an 'another person inherit the will of the the original Joyboy, and that person will find the one piece and bring the truth history to the world." Unfortunately, he didint meet Luffy G5 when he was making this pre-recorded video, so he do not know who will be the next Joyboy back then.
High quality edits on this one. The animated floaters and the quotes edited like they're being read in the background remind me heavily of LEMMINO's videos. Wonder if it's you or someone else. Great job either way!
Pretty sure Vegapunk said there are more of the D Clan. The ones who are carrying on Joyboys will and know the true history of the world. Doflamingo said they were going to arise in the world from underground or something like that. I forget which theory I heard this from but perhaps they’re living in the red line waiting for the right moment to make their move.
You got the kataguruma pun wrong. It's more surface level. Piggyback ride and shoulder wheel in judo are both spelled with shoulder and car and Jinbe is technically performing both actions at the same time.
FWIW, the official English translation writes "A" instead of transliterating it as "mo". Not sure whether the official translators have access to additional information or if that was just an intrusive choice, but i think it is relevant somehow.
@@langadube9611 That would have been a perfect opportunity but they didn't and I know of no case where they did. So I don't think they have such access (at least all the time), or at least it isn't simple/easy
Nico D. Robin. I'm calling it now. I just rewatched all of Punk Hazard, and after Sabo reunites with the Revolutionaries, Dragon asks Koala about Robin and doesn't seem interested at all in news of Luffy
The idea that the Kidetsu is a sword for demons would make sense why it's cursed for everyone but Zoro and Nojuro. Two demons wielding swords meant for demons that curse others
I am pretty sure that kataguruma is a reference to the judo technic, especially when jinbei says fishman jujutsu which is the source of judo(judo is a form of jujutsu), and the meaning is more shoulder wheel than shoulder car, because in the technic you lift someone on your shoulders and the throw him sideways making a movement that is wheel like
I would simply imagine that various people had to go the rubble of Onigashima and found Drake was still alive. He's not allied with Kaido and any number of Kaido's crew can confirm that, as can various other characters. So they probably just treated him and let him go. Edit: my personal opinion is that VP was about to say something about a specific person being the most important. Like one who stands above the rest. May or may not be a kind of traitor.
What if Mo is a full word, that Oda doesn't want to specify right now? I searched dictonaries, and there are only 3 full words with the pronouciantion mo, with only one hiragana: it might mean, 1.seeweed, 2. a traditional dress and 3. も 喪Noun, Noun which may take the genitive case particle 'no' 1. Noun mourning 2. Only applies to も calamity; misfortune Archaic, Wikipedia definition 3. Mourning Mourning is, in the simplest sense, synonymous with grief over the death of someone. The word is also used to describe a cultural complex of behaviours in which the bereaved participate or are expected to participate. Customs vary between different cultures and evolve over time, though many core behaviors remain constant. Wearing black clothes is one practice followed in many countries, though other forms of dress are also seen.
i think its more in the "among you, theres another joyboy". The idea that someone inherited joyboy's will, doesnt make sense to talk about "traitor" since it doesnt add anything, how can there be a traitor if we dont even know what our goals are? what are the d's predestinated to? what if they dont care? and why is teach a traitor? bc he wants to be king of the world? (people dont even know that) considering the perspective of the characters in the story and the whole build up of his speech talking about joyboy, why would he bring up a "traitor"? we dont even know what this means, neither the characters in the story, its pointless, but we know something the characters dont, that is, joyboy is back in luffy, he inherited his will.
I think that the message is not that hard to complete. Vegapunk talked about Joyboy so I believe that what he was telling was “within you (in your group) there is another Joyboy”. That would explain why the 5 elders cut off the transmission. If all of the D clan start go insane all over the world it would be practically impossible to control the situation 🤷🏻♀️
